Share your tips on getting toddler to nap

I've got a high-needs toddler (2-1/2) and a high-needs 7 month old. They are now not napping at the same time. DS2 is always up at DS1's nap time. DS1 requires about 30 minutes of focused one-on-one attention to go down. DS2 prefers to be walked around in a carrier or very engaged by me when awake, so he is not happy to sit through a 30 minute ritual of me reading and laying down with his brother.

Anybody got any ideas?

I wish desperately that he would drop his nap. I enjoy him most days and the break in our day to "get him down" stresses me out, although I try not to let him see that. Days without a nap result in dinner-time meltdowns and night terrors.

Happily married to DH

I feel for you. I've got a 3 year old and a 9 month old, and I've just recently gotten them back to the point of napping concurrently midday. (9 mo naps in the carrier in the morning after breakfast, too.)

What I do is usually wear out my 3yo while I'm getting the 9 mo to sleep in her wrap. We walk or bike or kick a ball around. Then I sit down and have snuggles/stories/one-on-one time with the 3yo so she can fall asleep. 9mo stays in the wrap.

Most days, I can get about an hour of overlapping naptime when I can sit and zone out.

Good luck.
