DS is 23 months and has very fine, thin hair. We really don't like super short boyish cuts so other than one trim many months ago we've let it just grow. However it's getting to the point where it's going to be in his eyes. I love the way it is curling in the back and can't bear to cut the curls again, but if I only trim the front/sides it seems like it's going to wind up a bit mullet-ish. And even though we're pretty comfortable stretching gender expectations I just don't know if I can go there with barettes (not that they would stay in his slippery hair anyway). So what should I do about his hair? I read a suggestion of gel on another thread but I'm worried it would make his super-fine hair all goopy.

We're in the same boat with our 27 month old. I'm growing his hair out as well and love the little curls forming in the back of his head. We use a little bit of mousse on his hair to control it.

My son is 30 mos. and has long curly blonde hair. I sometimes use hair clips to clip it back from his face, and sometimes he wears it in pigtails. We have LOTS of male friends who wear their hair in pigtails (including my partner, who has dreadlocks). Usually, though- it's just down and he pushes it out of his face all the time. I'm thinking about cutting the front but am afraid I'll botch it and he'll lose too many curls!

I used Baby Burt's Apricot oil on his hair and then brush it back into a little pigtail...kind of like how you see some of the Sumo wrestlers hair, kwim? Not like you would a girls hair. I put it in the back of the head instead of on top. Looked nice and kept the hair out of his face.
Now that he is older he gets his hair braided close to the scalp, so the braids sit against the head...this is when I wish I had one of those digital cameras and could take a picture and download it onto this computer and show everyone what I mean. :LOL

When DS was that age we just used the tiny scrunchies (you can get them in huge packs, not the rubber band ones, but the baby ones) and pulled it straight back. Not the little "whale spout" hair that is popular with tiny girls, but like that and then flattened down. You can also get some really neutral hair clips. Once it was a bit longer it was easy to just tuck it all behind the ears.

DS wanted his hair cut last year (when he was 2.75) and we did and now he is growing it out (at almost four) and it is a REAL PAIN, so if you want it long really just let it keep growing!

Hello!

My boy is not as old as yours but he has long hair (he had long hair when he was born also and only one cut that no one noticed :LOL ) I just put it behind his ears for the most part it stays. I love the curls everyone thinks he is a girl cause of his hair and he looks so much like me. He has bangs to tho.
