I am looking for wooden food for the boys to get with their play kitchen. I think what is out there is melissa and doug and haba, right? The haba stuff seems smaller and they are under three. I thought I might get some Melissa and Doug Fruit and Veggies. I know they will be mouthed, though, and want to make sure the finish is safe. Does anyone know?

In my experience most of our M&D painted toys have chipped (stacker, sorting cube) so I'm leary of buying any more.. we don't have any of the play food though, so I'm afraid I'm not a big help. I just have found the quality of their toys not so good (except the stacking animal pull toy and puzzles, they have held up great!) DS does have the fruit cutting set from Plan Toys and it's great. I think it's for 2+ though, but they seem pretty big, you might take the wooden knife out of the set though, anyway they have not chipped at all and seem sturdy

Blissful Mama to DD-(5), DS-(6) and someone new due in November!

We bought MD off Ebay and it's held up pretty good. It's made in China, though, which we don't like. The seller gave the impression they were handmade.

I think haba is made in Germany if that helps your decision any.
