From my MIL this morning: "On the way back from San Diego, a couple with 18 month girl and boy twins were in front of me. They had a laptop with them which had Baby Einstein cd playing. Both little ones were fascinated and quite occupied naming fish and duck and watching the fish, etc."

Isn't that clever?

I'm flying alone with my 17m.o. from Taipei to the States on Sunday. It will be an 18-hour travel day, so I've been pouring over the plane ride threads for ideas. Does anybody have any new ones? I'm getting really nervous because I know I'm going to be really strung out by the time we arrive!

I took my portable dvd player on the plane with me too! With the Baby Einstein videos! It helped a lot.
I also brought crayons and paper. A magna doodle, my own snacks and liquids. My ds like to listen to his brothers music with the head phones. Maybe some toddler music? baby Einstein has music cd's or if you have a dvd it can also be used in a cd player.
18 hours is a long trip. Good luck.
My trip was only 4hrs and he had 4 other people he could go to when he got tired of me.
He did also enjoy looking out the window.

A small nonbreakable locker mirror can keep kids entertained for a long time. Besides the obvious "look at your face in the mirror", there's also the trick of using it to see things behind you, or put it on the floor and look at the ceiling...that kind of thing.

The best airplane toy I know of is a set of photos, laminated (you can get this done at an office-supply store or copy centre) and with a hole punched in one corner. Hold them together with a binder ring. They take up practically no space in the diaper bag but provide a lot of entertainment. "Can you find the photo of Grandma? What's Grandma doing in this picture? What will you say when we see Grandma next?"

And when all else fails, ask the flight attendant for a cup of ice. My dd will eat those little ice cubes for a loooooong time, and it keeps her hydrated too, so she doesn't get cranky from dehydration.
