Oh, what a week we're having! Its been between - 25 and - 30 C with the wind chill around here (I don't know what that is F, but its below 0), which would be okay if it wasn't that half of it is WIND. Cold, biting, prarie wind, which drives me mad. And this complaint is coming from someone who grew up on the shores of Lake Superior! And we have about a foot of snow already. We truly are having a ridiculous year. We went straight from late summer to winter with no fall whatsoever, and its been miserably cold and snowy for 2 weeks now. Andrew and I were going stir crazy, then I decided to risk going to our friends' house for a playday even though they had all just had colds and now, guess what? We all have colds! Andrew's is particularly bad because (***TMI Alert***) he refuses to allow his nose to run or to spit or cough up phlem (sp?), so he just stays badly congested forever, until he just throws up all the yuk plus everything he ate recently. Its lovely. And he's so congested that, of course, he can't sleep even with the humidifier on and vapo-rub and tea with honey . . . etc, etc.
: So its been a lovely week. Plus dh had his monthly board meeting, and it always takes him about a week to recover after them, so he's grumpy too. And I'm just getting really pregnant, so I'm obviously grumpy, but attempting to maintain my composure for the sake of sanity in our household! SOMEONE must stay happy and together around here, I tell you! Its just unfair that it has to be me when I'm the one thats pregnant.
Okay, rant over. On the bright side, my friend gave me this great MEC one piece snow suit that we just tried on Andrew today and it fits him perfectly and is super snuggly and warm. But he will tear his mittens off and then tear off anyting put over his mouth and nose, so we can't take him out to play right now becuase its just too cold without something to mediate between his sick little lungs and the winter air. But it is a great snowsuit.
Also, Andrew's language has exploded yet again. He is now regularly and competently using contractions, prepositions, articles, the whole deal, and almost always speaks in complete, adult-like sentences. Since he has that all figured out, he's now gone onto non-existent words and word play. For instance, yesterday he was saying "I cough. I am having coffee". Its quite funny and cute. Except when MIL was here she kept correcting him. the same with object transformation -- he would come in carrying his blue bat, saying it was a blue whale, and she would say, "No, Andrew. That is a BAT" (in very clear, baby's just learning to talk pronunciation). And I'd have to say "He knows that, Mom. He's pretending its a whale because we have a book with blue whales". So I have now learned why dh is completely devoid of any imagination whatsoever -- its because it was thoroughly drilled out of him from a young age.
Oh, yes, I said no more rants, didn't I? Also, aside from this week because he was sick, he has FINALLY started going off with people at church for short periods of time, and saying hi to the people that have said hi to him every Sun. for the last two years, and playing at playgroup instead of just being attatched to my leg. Its very exciting.
