I am not too huge on family names. iris has my moms first name as a middle name and the first thing DHs mom asked was why didn't you name her have to me....never mind that this is the woman who told us we should be using Iris time in the NICU to stay home and catch up on sleep:

We have no clue what middle name we are going to use.

Aidan is "James" after my dad.

Eli is "Joseph" after dh's grandpa.

So first of all, I would like to use a middle name that is "after" someone, because I think it would be strange for the other two to have meaning, and this one not to. The problem is, there really is no one else we want to name him after.

The next thought is to use something that starts with "J", to go along with the other two. Still, I would like to have something that has some kind of meaning to us. We are both drawing a total blank.

People have suggested using one of dh's names as a middle, but usually if you are going to do that, you do it with your first son. We have never been big on naming children after ourselves. I think at this point it would be weird.

So...

The Name Game!

Niko does have Mike's name as a middle. DH is a 3rd but I said no way on a fourth and had no problem as a middle name. Boy's names do seem harder to think of. I really liked Kai and Darwin, but once I heard Nikolas it stuck.

I am home with a sick DD, she had a fever yesterday and now its donw to a sore throat. Lots of tea and honey and zinc lozengers!

So far Niko hasn't got it or maybe he already had it a couple weeks ago. I just hope everyone is healthy by Friday night, I leave Sat morning for Scottsdale with my sister!

thanks for the birthday wishes.

Our party plans flopped (I guess it's just too close to Thanksgiving) But we're going to dine with Shamu at Sea World tomorrow, and have cake with some family on Saturday.

Our 2 year doc visit put a slight damper on things as she's asked us to eliminate dairy for a couple of weeks to see if that helps clear up one of our skin issues...

that would be Sea World Orlando

If we were anywhere near any of you, you would have been invited to the party.

Thanks for the well wishes, ladies! I actually came home to a surprise birthday party, pulled off by my sister & my husband (who is king of "if you want a birthday/Christmas/etc. present go buy it yourself -- it's all the same money"). Very sweet!

Aiden is amazing -- yesterday he came & sat on my lap while I was watching some silly YouTube clip and after a minute he said "das funny, mama, das funny." So grown up!

Then last night he kicked his (little/crib sized) blanket off in bed and demanded the "big blanket" -- mine! I've never referred to it that way, and had started giving him the smaller one as I'm trying to teach him to not sleep in my armpit, ya know? It was so sweet, though. He pulled it right up to his chin & went back to sleep... (course he woke up 3 other times that night, but we won't talk about that... ).

Amy, I'm off to read your thread -- I'm so glad it's good news!!

Thanks, Jenelle! Charlie had a terrific birthday. We opened a slew of presents early, then went to an Xmas fair at the Waldorf school, which was totally excellent. Then we had a little family party this evening. Now it's back into the kitchen to bake green and blue cupcakes for his "friend" party tomorrow morning. We're serving sugar to the kids and mimosas to the adults. :
I really, really can't believe it's been two years.

Koalamommy, you've always been an awesome DDC member! Thanks for that great post. We're all learning as we go, eh? I remember being pregnant and feeling like I was super-progressive for planning to nurse for 2 years--but I definitely planned to wean once the baby turned two. And no NIP after infancy! I had a good chuckle about that today as I sat in the middle of a crowded room at the Waldorf school and NIPped my 2 year old with my one real-life MDC friend who was doing the same. I think Charlie's gonna be nursing for a loooooong time to come.

I know I haven't been around much for quite a while now. It's been an extremely tough year, financially, professionally, and personally. I've had too much stuff I can't talk about in an open forum. But I come here every day and check in on you guys. I feel for your joys and your sorrows, even when I don't post to let you know. You help keep me centered. Namaste.

Aw, "Betty", sorry to hear you've had a rough year.

KoalaMommy ~ great post. Well said. I get really tired of the mentality that we have to do things "X" way to fit in here. Life is a growing, learning process, and those who think they have it all figured out are in for some LARGE surprises.

: Owen!!! I pray you are doing wonderful things today, that aren't anywhere near a doctor or a hospital!

Elizabeth, hopefully this coming year will be so much better for you in all ways. I truly hope that it is!

Well, he was leaping off of his barnhouse (which we had brought inside for a bit) onto the couch. It was a midair shot of him before landing.

His flying antics are his new favorite trick, so I got some more shots yesterday of this insanity.

More low flight
After about 30 jumps
Another after shot
