Happy February, everybody!

We've been pretty quiet lately... hopefully that means that the toddlers are being so good, and not driving us all insane!

I am recovering from my infection and doing pretty well. Thanks for everyone's good wishes! It was pretty freaky when I was talking to the kids' pediatrician about it, and he said that back before antibiotics, this is one of those things that the mothers just DIED from. Nice.

Hope you're all doing great!

So glad you're doing better, Jenelle! We're okay, other than me being the psycho preggo mama occasionally. I have a cold that just will NOT quit! Aiden is trying to potty learn, but often doesn't feel like it, so I have to take sopping wet pants off him, which he doesn't like. This child gets majorly attached to the clothes he's wearing.

He tends to wear the same shirt for days at a time (eww, lol). There is usually a 5-15 minute crying/yelling fit when I insist he change, which includes me having to run it to the laundry room, toss it in & close the door before he can get it back out...

On a positive note, he's eating wonderfully, now that we've taken away the juice (and hey -- there's an extra $20/month!)...I get a little glow everytime he asks for water...

Oh -- there are some recent pics in my blog.
He and ds1 LOVE being super heros (with the "playsilks" on like capes).

Jenelle, I'm so glad you're better now!!

Things are like some sort of crazy see-saw around here. One day, Jett is phenomenal, fun, outgoing, and just a joy to have. The next day, it's all "terrible twos" out of a textbook. Either way, he's taking tons of time and is very engaging, for the good and the bad stuff. I'm hardly online any more.

Jenelle - Glad to hear you are feeling better... it must be draining to be ill while pregnant with toddlers!

Niko is occasionally sitting on the potty, usually fully dressed
: but at least showing some interest. I spoke to his daycare provider and she doesn't think he is ready to start yet. He does say pooh now so is giving me an indication when he is dirty. I am glad he finally stopped crying while being changed, he could care less now unless I pull him away from something fun to do it.

I need to get out our box of scarves and silks for Niko to play with, DD would like it too. We are putting our old family movie tapes onto DVD right now and are watching them as we go. Niko loves to watch his sister run around neked with only a cape and undies on on TV. We havent even finished 2003 yet so alot of footage to go.

Last night was so funny. We had steak for dinner and Niko was gobbling it down, he put a bunch of peices in his mouth at once before we could stop him. He chewed it for a while and I let him get down cause I thought he swallowed it. He wandered in to bug his sister at her art table and wanted to draw too so I got him some pens and paper. A couple minutes later Sara start yelling "yuck" "what is that" Niko had pulled the chewed up pulp of meat out and was trying to hand it to Sara so he could draw!
Totally discusting!
Guess he was chewing it like gum!

I try to block those moments out, because I always seem to be the lucky recipient...ewwwww! ;lol

Shalena-
I'm sure those are normal feelings. Still, it is tough to go through that when there is no stoping it.

Kazmir-I think those are both good signs about the potty. It took Iris about two months to start using the potty after she started pretending to use it. She still can't wear underwear. She pees in them almost imeadatly every time...it's frustrtatingb/c she uses the potty and never has accidents when she's naked so I know she knows she is going.

past_VNE-your description of Jetts personality is exactly what we have going on her too.

We don't have too much going on here.Iris was exposed to the croup last weekend so I kept waiting for her to get sick but I guess she is not going ot get it.

Well I just typed out this big butt post and lost it. So here is the condensed version.

Jenelle- I am so glad your feeling better.

Shalena- I am scared too, but I really know this is the right thing and am just hoping for the best.

I am really started to get stuff together for this baby. So far I have knit 4 soakers and I am ordering all my dipes as soon as the tax return arrives. I am getting a baby hammock like this one http://www.babyhammock.co.nz/ only cheaper. I know a lady who makes them up in canada and she is sewing one for me. I bought my fishy pool off ebay for $6 brand new in the box. I couldn't believe it.

Potty training is all the sudden going wonderfully. In the past 3 days she has only peed on the floor twice. She goes naked all the time. She uses one diaper a day for poops and asks for it, other than that she has been asking for the potty. I am so proud of her, things are just clicking all the sudden. Oh and of course her night time diaper. But she pees right before she goes to bed and I let her sleep naked for a few hours and then slip one on her while she is sleeping. She hates being night diapered so it is a real treat for her this way.

Doh!

Hope it goes down all the way...soon? Dump cups of bleach down there & hope that will eat the fabric away?

Give up & call the plumber to snake it?

I tried to snake it with a metal clothes hangar, to no avail. We had a snake years ago, but it was really cheap and we took it back after trying it, b/c it tore up our toilet!

I think I need to either buy or rent a good snake.

We went to a really neat jungle gym place this morning and had LOADS of fun. www.junglefun.net Anyway....as we were winding down and thinking about leaving, Jett was bouncing in the blow-up bouncy area. I don't know exactly what happened, but somehow, he hurt his foot. He started saying "ow" and fussing about his foot. We took him out of the bouncy area to the floor, set him down, and he took one step with the other foot, then as soon as he put weight on the left foot he fell down and yelled a little bit. He nursed and maintained, "foot hurt" and "ow", but it was very little reaction, really.

We get home, and he's sound asleep, so I take him right to bed. Three hours later after nursing through 90% of his nap, he gets up, but doesn't even try to get out of bed. I bring him downstairs and he is very passive, gentle and just won't even attempt to stand up. Not balking, but just like he knew better than to stand up. So, he's played on the couch all evening and we've watched loads of tv. We watched Harry Potter and Thomas for the last four hours....with spurts of Indian food and playing games interspersed.

He did try to stand twice, but just shifted all weight to the other foot and said "OW!" and then fussed and wanted nursies.

We doubt it's broken, just because of the nature of the injury, but don't know. It's a little swollen and warm, but not painful to the touch. We may take him to the ER tomorrow if it's not better. And, while we'd never avoid treatment he needed, we're a little sketchy about going if we don't need to, b/c of the vax issue.

Poor guy
I feel so bad for him.

PastVne -- that happened to a friend of mine's son & it did end up being broken...little ones have an amazing tolerance for pain sometimes -- or at least that kind of pain, I guess...

My friend's little boy was cajoled by the dr. to walk across the room by promises of candy & when he did the dr. said he couldn't possibly have a broken foot. They took him back (days - a week?) later and the dr. poked & prodded him while he cried & cried & very ungracefully wrote them a referral to a specialist. The specialist never touched (i.e. hurt) the boy, just gave him an x-ray & confirmed that it was broken. He had to wear a walking cast for a couple months, I believe.

I've heard similar stories of kids having breaks & it not being immediately apparant too... I'd probably be a bit cautious with something like that & take him in if he didn't revert to normal by tomorrow... just my unsolicited $.02!

Carolynn, thanks for the reminder about that. I just left a voice mail with our friend, an ER doc about an hour from here. Hopefully he's working tomorrow and we can go see him specifically.

Jaclyn,

I've had to take mine to the ER once or twice and how I handle the vax issue is very simple. They ask, and I say "absolutely not" like it is the freakin' craziest thing I have ever heard in my life. My face mirrors this. I have never had a problem

hth and hope that Jett is okay.

nannymom, I'm so glad that your husband is a match for his dad. As scary as the whole process is, your FIL must be so relieved.

No problem -- I was hoping I didn't come off as pushy!
The story I told you really flipped me out for a while, so I couldn't help but share. I hope your friend is available -- seeing people you know is so much easier!

And now for my question...who knew that too many raisens give you the runs... and a rash to boot! Poor boy, I had to pull out the diaper ointment for the first time in a year!

Jaclyn - I agree with cinnamonamon. I would definitely take him in for a set of x-rays. That's exactly how Sadie acted when she hurt her leg. She wasn't in pain because it wasn't a displaced break, just a teeny tiny hairline fracture, so it only hurt her when she put pressure on it. The ER doc had to call the orthopedic specialist in to look at her leg cause the ER dr. didn't detect the fracture on the x-ray. The orthopedic dr. took a long look at her x-rays and then massaged her leg where he suspected he had seen "something" -- lo and behold that's when she winced in pain. Sooo, hopefully Jett just twisted his ankle or something, but better safe than sorry, huh? Poor guy.

I'm sorry I didn't see this last night! I started typing my reply before you posted, then walked away from the computer and didn't finish it for something like an hour. I just saw the replies to you and thought, 'what the heck?' and found your post!

I'm soooo glad that your DH is a match for his dad, but understand what a swirling mess of emotions that is. About five or so years ago, I was going to find out if I matched my grandmother and DH and I went through all those same thoughts. It turned out she wasn't a candidate for surgery, but in the mean time, we planned that I would donate to her. She started dialysis last year and it's going okay, but at 87, it's pretty darn hard on her.
to you guys....lots of them. There are other donor mamas here at MDC, I'm sure you can get some advice/support from them, should you need it!

We have been too busy working, and then tending to Jett, we haven't messed with the still-clogged tub. The water went down in several hours, so I was able to take a shower yesterday morning, then it went down in another several hours....so, Shanon can bathe now. LOL

We gave Jett advil last night to help him sleep. He was up and rearin' to go at 5 am, though. He usually gets up at 7-730. He tried to jump on the bed several times, and no pain response, though we told him to stop, obviously. He walked on the bed and was okay. Last night, before bed, he was standing on the couch and all was fine, then he was doing this thing where his weight was on his fully flexed toes and he was leaned forward with his arms resting on the couch arm. He certainly appears fine in those cases. But, it's 180 degrees different when he stands on the floor...not even walks. He just picks up his foot immediately and starts with the 'ow's.

The swelling is gone this morning and it's not hot. I still think we should go in, though. We'll give it a while, since he's happy and I'm hoping to hear from our ER buddy.

Any thoughts from you guys on visiting the local ER or seeing our doctor tomorrow, if she's available? I know SHE can't do anything, except send us for a specialist. But I feel like the specialist recommended by my crunchy family doc would be less likely to have his head up his ass than a random ER physician.

And while typing this.....he's fallen fast asleep on my lap.
