We just got ds the Parents Busy Zoo play cube (for his bday which is tomorrrow : ) and he is loving it. He also likes the Melissa and Doug wood animal magnets. Our utensil canister in the kitchen has been a favorite for a long time too.

Balls of different sizes and textures.

For my son's first birthday, my sister sent him a bucket with wiffle balls, a big felted wool ball, a gertie ball, and some balls with things in them. They were perfect for the age!

When ds was one (he's almost 16 months now) his favorite toys were this flash beat drum: http://www.cambitoys.com/award-winni...beat-drum.html
It's still a favorite.

He also liked (and still likes) his Lego Quatros

He got this for his first birthday: http://www.amazon.com/Brown-Rock-N-R.../dp/B000231EXW and that has been a favorite.

He also really likes his Melissa and Doug alligator push toy: http://www.gummylump.com/front/f_product.php?id=2183 and it was great for him as a new walker because it moves nice and slow and has a lot of traction.

mommy to ds 11/05, dd1 01/08, and dd2 01/10!

DS loves these we've had them for ages. He also loves playing peek-a-boo under a play silk. He enjoys when the puppets play peek-a-boo. He's played peek-a-boo with his stuffed animals and rubber ducky. He loves his xylaphone. He plays with megablocks. He loves to use tuperware as drums, and to chew on. He also likes empty soymilk cartons and water bottles.

What he always goes absolutely crazy for though is my cell phone and the remote control.

Balls. Any size, colour, material, decoration. When they aren't walking they push them, when they are they kick and throw them. My ds (now 20 months) always goes straight for any ball he sees!

Some of my dd's favorites at 1 year were (and still are ) Mega Blocks in the dump wagon (great fun dumping them!), her musical instrument set, touch and feel books, and the Leap frog musical piano toy : . The leap frog piano was really nice for her since she's vision impaired and it makes sounds as well as lights up the keys so she can easily play with it.

ds just turned 1 and his favorites are his stacking rings, and his shape sorting box (he likes to fill it up and dump it out; occasionally he uses it as a shape sorter).

He also likes his mini-train whistle and his fire truck, and all sorts of stuffed animals/dolls.

DD loved her shape sorter, very similar to this one
http://www.amazon.com/BRIO-30144-Sha.../dp/B000EF81C0

Wooden peg puzzles were also a hit although it was a while before she could put the pieces back, the stackign cups have also been a good buy. We have plastic ones with holes in the bottom which double as bath toys.

For her first birthday she got some fisher price little people and woodne blocks but didn't play with either until much closer to two.

Peek-A-Blocks

Only problem is, they lose interest about 1.5 years later and they're pricey. Try and find them used. (I'd sell you mine, but I'm keeping them for the next child)

DD loved her wooden wagon walker we found it at Target for around 30 bucks.

She also had a toy where she hammered balls and they shot down a little maze- she is 16mo old and still plays with it daily

Balls are always a hit, we have a tub full- it's her special "daddy" activity.
