DS has recently started pretending to be hurt to get my attention or to distract me. For example, this evening, he peed in my recliner. I told him I wasn't angry, but that he needed to peepee in the potty. He pulled away from me, flung himself down on a blanket, and said "oww, hurt!" I said, "You're not hurt, come talk to me." He stopped and came back and talked to me.

He's been doing this fairly regularly. He's somewhat jealous of BF, so sometimes when I give BF a hug, DS will come over and say "Finger hurt!" and make me kiss his finger. When he does that, I try to pay more attention to him because I feel like it's his way of showing me that he's feeling deprived. But when I'm cooking dinner and he interrupts with a different booboo every five seconds, something's got to change.

I understand why he does it to get my attention, even if I don't like it. I don't like it that he does it to distract me, though, or try to get out of "trouble," even when he's not in trouble. Is there something I can do?

dd says "hurts" when she is upset or embarassed. i think it is the closest words she has to describe her emotions and let me know she needs comfort.
