Just out of curiosity, how much do your toddlers sleep? I'm talking combined time between nighttime and naps. My daughter is almost 15 months old, and she doesn't sleep all that much, but she doesn't seem tired. I have seen numerous charts about how much sleep kids "should" get, and she's always far below the numbers -- not that I care about what she "should" do as long as she's healthy, but it just made me wonder if she's really that far out of the norm. She sleeps 8.5 to 9 hours at night, then takes a 2 to 3 hour nap during the day. Everything I see says that kids her age "should" sleep 11 hours or so at night, plus a 2.5 to 3 hour nap -- so she's about 2 to 3 hours below the totals. I'm just curious to see how much other kids her age are sleeping. (Maybe it's just that I'm a glutton for punishment, since if she would sleep more I could sleep more, and maybe I'm trying to find a reason to throw myself a pity party. I don't know. )

At 15m, DS was sleeping 12 hrs at night and 4 hrs (two 2-hr naps) during the day...Now, at 18m, he's sleeping 12 hrs at night and 2-3 hrs during the day. (He LOVES his sleep!) I have known several babies to totally cut out their naps altogether at 12m and they were fine, so I don't think your DD is lacking. As long as she's healthy and happy, I say continue to let her do her thing!

So far, sounds like she's in the normal range. She doesn't act like she's over-tired, I just wondered.

Why couldn't I get one of those sleepy babies? I'm so tired!

My dd2 is just like yours....10 at night and 2 during the day. She's been this way since about 14 months. Luckily, now at 25 months, she's still on that schedule. I was dreading her giving up her nap....

Neither of my kids have come in anywhere near the totals. Though my now seven year old *does* sleep a good 11 hours at night now!

My 14 month old takes a nap ranging from 1 - 2.5 hours. At night he sleeps from 8 - 6 (on average) and that is with a minimum of 2 wakings with an average of 4-5+.

DD sleeps 8-9 hours at night, with a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. I know its less than most, but she is perfectly healthy. I can't get her to sleep more. She sleeps 11:30 pm to 7am ish. She is 22 months, and was like this for about a year now.

have you tried tinkering with this? maybe shortening her nap so she goes to bed earlier? that just seems crazy to me.

DD is 18 months, usually sleeps about 12 hours at night, waking to nurse but I pretty much sleep through that most of the time. Naps can be anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. Although today, she has only slept 10 hours total....

Bastian (14 months) sleeps 10-12 hours at night, and anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours during the day. Depends on the day, what's going on, how teething is going, etc.

Qualia (2.5) sleeps 12 hours a night and anywhere from no nap to 1-2 hours during the day. She's always slept more than him, and schedule is really the only thing holding her back right now. (We're driving dh to work and picking him up, so we have to be out of the house at 7:30am every morning. And until Bastian was born, she normally slept until 9-11am with a solid 3 hour nap during the day and a 10-11 bedtime. Now she goes to bed between 7 and 8, sleeps til Bastian wakes up, and maybe naps in the car if the stars are aligned.)

My 12 month old sleeps 11 hours at night, then 3-4 hours in naps, so 14-15 hours a day total.

I have the other end of the spectrum than the OP. That's why there is a spectrum.

My dd has always been WAY below what they say she should! At 12 months it was about 6hrs at night and one hour in the day, so 7hrs. Now at 2yrs, almost 3yrs, it's 9hrs at night and maybe (if we're lucky!) one hour durning the day, so 10hrs total. I'm not sure how much she should be getting. My MIL sleeps maybe 4-5hrs a night and is all perky. Dh used to be like that so I just consider it hereditary (sp?)

DD3, 14mths old, sleep about 11hrs at night and about 1-4hrs for naps. It all depends on hwat we do and if she gets two naps in or not.

DD2, 3.5yrs old, sleeps about 11-12hrs at night and 2hrs nap. She been on this sleep routine for about 2yrs now, since she only had one nap a day.

DD sleeps 10-11hrs at nite, maybe waking once for like 20 minutes. Then she sleeps for 1-2hrs after lunch for a nap. She is slowly getting out of her naps as she doesnt always go down for a nap. We try to give her quite time reguardless.

My 19 mo old used to sleep 9-10 hours a night with a 1-2 hour nap until I started putting her to bed at 6pm (versus 9pm). She is asleep by 7 and will sleep 12 hours at night. Ironically she takes better naps now that she gets more rest at night: usually she takes one two-hour nap, sometimes 2.5 hours.

This worked for my 3.5 year old, too, who was up until 10:30pm constantly and still up between 6-7am before I started putting him to bed at 6pm. I thought there was no way that my kids would sleep through the night going to bed that early but it WORKS!

You know, I thought about putting her to bed earlier, because I know some kids are like that. But she's really not. She can't go to bed before 9, unless maybe she doesn't get her naps during the day, in which case she needs to go earlier. But any time she goes to bed earlier, she wakes up earlier too. Her normal bedtime is 9:30 or 10. It's never more than 9 hours of sleep at night, no matter when she goes to bed. But if she goes to bed too late, she'll STILL wake up before 7, no matter what time she went to bed. She's a very strange child.

This morning she woke up at 6, and I did talk her into going back to sleep until almost 8. Took 20 minutes to get her back to sleep, but she did it. But it was a fluke -- I think it only happened because she didn't sleep well last night, so she was more tired than normal.

They generally sleep 11 - 12 hours at night (they wake up between 8:30 and 9:00 am),

and take naps totalling 1-4 hours,

so in a 24 period of time, they sleep between 12 and 16 hours.

This applies to both my daughters, who are 27 months and 1 year.

DS1 (18 months) sleeps about 8-9 hours at night, and a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon. He's another night owl, and the bedtime routine doesn't usually start until 11pm (asleep by midnight or so), then he's up around 8am most days. We've tried putting him to bed earlier, but then he tends to wake up around 3am and wants to play.

He seems content with the amount of sleep he gets... but man, it would be nice if he'd sleep for 12 hours at night!

Let's see...DD just turned 4 and just stopped naps, so she now sleeps about 11-12 hrs at night (when she takes a 1.5-2 hr nap she gets maybe 8-9 at night and doesnt' want to go to bed until at least 10!).

DS is 27 months and he has been on a 2-3 hour nap during the day and 9-10 hours at night. This week he's been cutting back naps though and when he doesn't nap he sleeps same as his sister...the 12 hours at night.
