I know this has been a very hot topic on this site in recent weeks. I apologize for anything repetitive. Like most of you, we are not getting our son toys made in China. It is very hard to find anything in stores around here, although I was happy to find out that Legos aren't made in China. I would like to get him some nice wooden toys. I know a lot of you have ordered from different websites and I'd like your recommendations. The only sites I order from and have experience with are diaper and sling sites. . I don't know anything about these toy websites and who is reliable and who isn't. Any suggestions and links are appreciated. :-)

A Toy Garden is usually the first place I'll look when I'm shopping for toys.

Next stop is always Stump Pond Toys. Wyit is a great person, and a pleasure to do business with.

Awesome!! Thank you all for the recommendations! I am definitely having fun shopping. Thankfully, my mom told me to use her card and pick out some things that we'd like for David. These are some awesome toys.

Both are MDC parents, who were kind enough to also sponsor recent co-ops.
I imagine we over at the co-op board have cleaned them out but yes, from what I've seen both are great to deal with and I plan on doing future business with both of them.

If you are looking for handmade/knit/etc. things try etsy or hyena cart - there are lots of WAHM's on there who knit, sew, etc. I've seen some fabulous dolls on there, knit some great play food, etc. And the prices are extremely reasonable.

I like Etsy for kids gifts- I've got some really cool things there! In fact, we took the Handmade Pledge and I've done all my holiday shopping at Etsy. You know you are buying handmade, and interact directly with the person who is making the item you buy.

Some of the "toys" I bought this year are finger puppets, Star Wars hair clips, I spy bags, crayon/marker totes, cool sea monster scarf/neck thingy, artist journal, OH! And dinoroar tails for my toddler nephews. They are really cool.

Etsy has a lot of sewn items, not too many wooden things, although there are some. A lot of personalized and custom things, too.

Just wanted to add padilly dot com to the mix - they have a great selection of Holztiger pieces, as well as Kathe Kruse, etc.

This year our Christmas presents have come from Kid Surplus, Three Sisters, Maukilo, A Toy Garden. Fwiw, I find Magic Cabin really expensive, and most of the time I can find what I have fallen in love with in their catalog more inexpensively elsewhere.

I love the Take the Handmade Pledge idea! I also LOVE the dinoraur tails and may have to get a couple of those for my girls. Too cute! Thanks for sharing!

All the websites listed above are great.

Another MDC mama just started up her site, www.youpayless.com, and is having free shipping in the month of December. She also gave me a discount code to share for 10% off all items in the store :

Also check out this MDC mama's blog:

she has instructions on making play silks, toy reviews, and lots of coupon codes
