I'm looking for a train set that is not made in China (or if it is, not painted!). Anyone have one that their child particularly likes? After all the recalls on a lot of train sets, I don't know which to get.

I got mine at IKEA before the China scare. Most of it has no paint so lead won't be a problem for most of the parts. It's wood. You might visit the IKEA website, look up the train set and see if it's MIC or not.

Whittle Wooden Trains are cool....the tracks and trains (and vehicles) are compatible with Thomas and Brio.

The Ikae is mostly not MIC (I've been thinking about it for DS.) IIRC one of the small add on set you could buy was but the main set wasn't.

They have some great made in europe train stuff on the oompah.com website. I think the sets are made by Brio or Plan toys.
