My DS's birthday is coming up, and we'd like to buy him a train set. He loves trains, and we own 1 small one. The dining room chairs become a train, lego, cars and trucks... so it's time for a real one.

I wanted a Maple Landmark, but my DH saw the price and...

I noticed the KidKraft recommended, but I see it's part MDF. Is it that bad? Would Yukon Express, Maxim or even plastic Step 2 be better?

I'd like to get it soon.

Thanks,
Ana

www.trainsgalore.com has great prices. We did Thomas, but they have other sets there too.

Could you start a Brio train collection? That's something you can keep adding to.

Liam LOVES his ikea train set. We bought extra rails and wagons and he has a blast with them.

Check out Craigslist. We have seen a ton of great sets there inexpensively. I just recently saw a table, large Thomas set and the storage drawers for $75. They last forever - my son has my nephew's much loved and played with set and it's now 14 years old and still fun.
