DS still feeds 8+ times/day - sometimes he'll wake 4 times during the night. I think it is probably due at least in part to me having a "light" supply and he doesn't really get much at each session. I'm just wondering what's normal, and getting tired and sort of dreading the idea that it might be like this until he weans.

8 times a day is about every 3 hours, I would guess that is pretty typical to light, especially in the summer.

I don't keep very good track, but mine is almost 9 months and still nurses a ton. He isn't eating any solids yet. He nurses at LEAST 12 times a day still.

My guy is almost 9 months and still eats several times a day and several times a night (I don't count anymore, if he's hungry, I feed him). Ds also won't eat solids yet. Your guy sounds normal

Thanks ladies! That is all very reassuring. DS does eat three good-sized meals of solids per day, because of his weight issues. (At 6mo he was very small even for a breastfed baby - below the 2.5 sigma line on the WHO chart.) However, I don't give him any juices and he doesn't seem at all interested in water and I can't believe I never connected that to him wanting to nurse more often! Thanks for the reassurance.

DS is 10 months and nurses 12x a day easily. It doesn't bother me, though, it's just never been an issue. I was totally shocked to visit his DDC on another site and most of those babies are nursing 3-4x a day and the rest is solids! DS still eats almost no solids, so it makes sense to me that he nurses so often. How much solids does your LO eat?

My 18 month old nurses at least as often as that and I don't have any supply issues. Sounds totally normal to me!

Some kids just like to nurse more often than others - just like some people prefer to snack all day and others to sit down to a few big meals.

Hmmm - it's just so hard to measure! I probably give him the equivalent of 4-6 "food cubes" at lunch and dinner, dh feeds him probably 4 at breakfast. From that we just let him eat as much as he wants / can get in his mouth - usually most of it. Once in a while if I'm having a snack I will give him a couple bites of that, too.

DD nursed like a newborn (12-16 times a day) and ate 3 meals + snacks + water until about 20 months, now maybe 6-8 times (after night weaning) and same meals. Some nursing is hunger, some is thirst, some is bonding, some is comfort, some is sleepy time.
