Hi!

I'm trying to figure out how to get through this.  My 15 mo. old is still a happy, active nurser, and I'm glad about that.  I don't really want to wean, but lately my nipples really hurt when he nurses.  I remember this happening with my older son while I was ovulating as well as may a day before my period.  This time my nipples have been really sore for almost a week.  It takes so much away from our nursing sessions, and I just don't like nursing when it hurts.  (Obviously.)  So, is something weird going on with his nursing style, or could this just be a loooooong PMS phase?  I am not pregnant (unless it's a miracle).  I'm also constipated and sick to my stomach... haven't yet had a PP period.

Do you think this will pass (like it's hormonal?)-- or do you think he might be nursing differently all of a sudden?  I nursed my first till he was 22 months, so I have some experience nursing a toddler with teeth.

Thanks!

(PS-- just saw my signature!  I need to update that... I had that August baby well over a year ago!  Yikes).

My nipples get sore the week prior to my period when I nurse my 20 month old. Once my period comes it goes back to being comfortable. It could definitely be hormonal.

Thanks!  I hope that is just what it is... which means it will pass before too long.

I've had AF since 5 months PP and around ovulation and a few days before AF my nips get really tender. There is also the possibility that your DS may have come down with toddler lazy latch syndrome lol. Try to get him to open up really wide (get him to mimic you) and really try to get a deep latch to see if that helps. My 20 month old DD latches fairly well but she tries to get away with all sorts of monkey business while nursing which can really hurt. She shakes her head while latched and giggles, stands up on my lap, slides off my lap and stands on the ground... You name it! I had to resort to going back to nursing manners and unlatching her when she starts her shenanigans. She doesn't like it but gets to try again and can nurse nicely as much as she wants.
