We have weaned

I have weaned my son, aged 2 years 7 months. It has now been 6 days since we have nursed.

I have so many mixed emotions! I think I am quite sad about it, and I also feel like my identity as a "nursing mom" is lost.

On the other hand, I was pretty ready to be done these last few months.

It wasn't a child-led wean. I had to cut him off. He wouldn't have stopped of his own volition. We had a talk about how mom milk was for babies, and he said he understood, and still seems to take no for an answer and be ok.

Night time and morning time is the hardest. I still hear him wake up and want to nurse him good morning.

There hasn't been any weaning happening around here, so I'm just here to offer you support. I'm sure he's still getting plenty of love and cuddle from you <3

It's a big change for mama, emotionally and hormonally. Congratulations on giving him this gift for this long, and just allow yourself to grieve, and try to be as nurturing to yourself as you can. The LLL has a book about weaning stories (it made me cry when I read it though :-( ).
