Hi mamas!

I'm tandem nursing Zachary (4.5 years old) and Haley (2.5 years old) and am pregnant with child #4!

My oldest, now 6, self-weaned on his fifth birthday.

I believe that child-led weaning is right for our family. I also understand that my definition of child-led weaning is most likely different that others' definitions of CLW. I believe limits are a part of any relationship, including nursing. I believe there is a great difference between setting limits that are more like "nursing manners" (not when mom's driving the car, on the potty, or taking dinner out of the oven ... no pinching, fighting with your nursing sibling, or trying to take mama's nipple with you ... etc.) and setting limits that lead to weaning or aren't respectful of the child's needs (constantly saying no or putting your child off, pushing toward cutting down on nursing sessions when your child isn't ready, etc.). There are so many facets of CLW, child-respectful weaning, natural weaning and all other variations, that I think we lose ourselves in arguing specifics instead of supporting each other for nursing our children past infancy.

I say, good for all of us for following our child's leads, our hearts, and our instincts and continuing to nurse our children, for however long that may be....and despite what family, friends, strangers, and society as a whole thinks about us!!!

Mama to A (12), Z (11), H (9), C (5), A (3) and 4 angels.

I'm nursing my 23.5 month old son.

I think having a CLW forum for support is absolutely necessary. But while I consider it my ideal, I don't know that I'll attain it (I haven't even checked out the board). I'm glad we have the resource available, and I'm glad we have our old board, back, too!

Mom to Eva, my 17month old nursling!
She nurses all the time, she eats solids whenever we eat, and she snacks on food throughout the day, but still nurses A LOT. No intentions of weaning, she's still such a baby to me!

I"m glad this board is here, I didn't feel like my posts fit in the other breastfeeding board. I'm nursing DD who is 19 months old. I'm probably in the minority here, but I want to wean her. I never knew that nursing a toddler could be so demanding!

I'm Caurie and my nursling Brice is 15 months. He absolutely loves his milkie and I have no plans to stop until he ready. I am so happy to find such a large group of kindred spirits!!!!! Unfortunately my family - sans my husband - is not very supportive of my "still" nursing Brice. So, this is a wonderful place for me. Thanks!

Hi I'm here! Nursing my 43 mo (sounds silly, ok 3.5yo) ds and my 3 mo dd!

ETA: oh yeah, I am not CLW either, I do put limits on the nursing relationship (with my 3.5yo obviously, not the 3mo :LOL) and I night-weaned him at 18 months, and, ooooh, got pregnant when he was 2.5 yo! Didn't stop him, but I did have to slow him down because I was hurting. I am ready to be finished nursing him, but as always with him, the less I push, the more he does independantly, so I don't turn him down when he wants to nurse (he might have to wait though), and he is nursing less and less, only every couple of days now. He is glad the milk is back now that the baby is here! Did you know I have chocolate milk in my boobs? :LOL

Hi! Thanks! I hope Lily had a nice b-day. Alexander is still almost 100% bf'd, too! Just a taste of solid food now and then.

Hi, I'm Nichole, mother to an almost 3-year-old nursing daughter.

It's been a few weeks since I was here, when the board was still called "Extended Breastfeeding." I like this title much better!

Best,
Nichole

My first dd nursed until her fourth birthday last June and my baby is 10 months and quite adamant when she wants her "mamas" so who knows how long she'll nurse. I will have been nursing for 5 years this June between the two.

My DS is 14 mo and still nursing every 2 - 4 hours at home, but hardly ever if we are out. Only nursing once or twice during our 10 - 11 hour sleep period. He is showing no signs of weaning! However, DH likes to make these "funny" comments about when weaning him. *sigh*

Anyways, glad that the forums are split up. I didn't feel like we belonged in the Beginning and Overcoming forum, but we also aren't at the CLW age yet, and support and advocay just didn't seem appropriate yet. So YEAY!

I just want to say that you don't have to have a certain age baby to consider yourself to be CLW, or to belong in the CLW forum. A parent of a nursling of any age should be right at home in the CLW forum as long as she's not planning to parent-led-wean.
