(x-posted in main Breastfeeding)

I have a call into my Ped, but thought I would ask here as well.

I just found out I'm pregnant for the 3rd time this year. The last 2 pregnancies ended in miscarriage, and my OB said that taking baby aspirin (81mg) would not hurt and may help. My 28 month old is still nursing just 2-3 times per day and gets very little milk, it's mostly for comfort.

I'm wondering if taking 81mg aspirin would put him at risk for Reye's Syndrome. I read something on the internet that said 500mg every 6 hours was NOT considered a high dose. So would 81mg once a day be okay?

Thanks

Mama to a 5.5 yr old boy and a 2.5 yr old girl.  Expecting baby 3 (another girl!) late June

It didn't work, but I navigated around the site to find aspirin under the LactMed category.

So it says a single low dose of aspirin daily is unlikely to cause problems, and waiting 1-2 hours to nurse after taking it is a good idea. That I can do. I am worried that the risk of Reye's syndrome is unknown. I don't want to harm my little one.

Thanks so much for the link!

I'm glad you figured out how to work LactMed, I find it so helpful! I agree, the risks are small especially compared to miscarriage. And I've known a few people who have had success with the baby aspirin. Good luck to you.

I did it in my 3rd pregnancy. DD was 2 at the time. Baby asprin is best taken before bed, so I would nurse DD to sleep then take it.

good luck in your pregnancy
