I'm non EBF my toddler (he has solids). He's 15 months.

I am coming down with a cold, and in the past, Cold FX was the only thing that worked for me.

The package, of course, states that it's not recommended for pregnant and lactating women -- but nothing much is, except Tylenol.

Can I take it? Its primary ingredient is ginseng.

Thank you. It says "long-term use". That's rather vague. It's frustrating because of the insufficient data. Yet I "know" in my heart that many herbs that they say to avoid during pregnancy/lactation are actually safer than tylenol and other cold remedies which are supposedly "okay".

Has anyone here used this herb while BF?

I took it accidentally a few times like in tea. It wasn't really an accident, I just never knew it was "bad." Long term use is more than a couple of weeks, right?

When I'm sick I take vitamin C, echinacea, elderberry tea. I did so while nursing. Some homemade chicken noodle soup or miso soup really works.

oh yeah some vitamin A too. we use cod liver oil.

I'm not nak now so I have some more information - first, did you follow the other links on the kellymom page? Dr. Gordon goes into more detail through the link "is ginseng safe for nursing mothers?"

Dr Hale lists ginseng as an L3 (moderately safe).
