Our sump pump failed, and our basement was flooded. Our insurance company is giving us a really hard time about our carpet, saying it couldn't have been that damaged in the timeline we gave them and so on, or that it must be cheap carpet. It's not cheap, and it wasn't damaged before this. We're not 100% sure when it happened, as we were all sick with the stomach flu the day before and weren't in the basement!

No one will come out to look at it, and the people who have dried out our carpet showed me the damage, and you can smell the mildew. Any suggestions? Would it be worth my time and money to consult a lawyer if they decline our claim?
