[x-posted in sewing]

I bought some "decorator" fabric that's 100% cotton, but kind of a thick, rougher weave. I intended it for curtains then changed my mind. I was thinking of making a duvet cover out of it, but I'm worried it will bother me because it's not smooth like a sheet. I do use fitted and top sheets, but I'm still bound to have the duvet touch me at some point in the night.  Any experience with a non-smooth duvet cover?

I think that's going to be an individual, personal like/dislike. To answer your question though, I don't mind sleeping under a heavy wool blanket (think Pendleton or Hudson's Bay), as long as there is a top sheet between me and the blanket. They are fairly rough to the touch. How does your cotton cloth compare to the texture of a wool blanket?

If you decide against using it for a duvet, how about table runners, decorative pillows, or fabric storage boxes

Thanks for your reply. I really like the fabric. I think it will make some great throw pillows, there's just so. much. of. it. LOL. But I think you're right about it being personal preference. I think I might throw a square of it into the wash and see if it softens up any.  Thanks again. Oh, and those storage boxes are so cute!
