12.01- $5.49 (on dinner at Wendy's that I really didn't need) :
12.02- $16 on milk, toilet paper & sliced cheese
12.03-
12.04- $1.39 on soup

BAH! Forgot dinner again! However, I'm just getting the minimum (soup) instead of getting a whole big value meal. Yes, and now that I've typed it out, I've got to do it!!!

Same thing going on here! All these no spend days are because I haven't left the house...and tonight I was feeling really house-bound. But it is great for my budget.

12/1: $.84 on copies of scholarship application for YMCA membership.
12/2: $70.24 on groceries for the week
12/3: $1.20 on tolls to get to LLL meeting, $25.36 for shampoo and conditioner, prunes for poor constipated Jonah, and pregnancy tests (I'm starting to feel nervous, so it's always worth it to have a couple in the cupboard just to make sure!)
12/4: woo-hoo! no driving and no spending today! (also, took the prego test and: not knocked up. I think we're still paranoid from our last accidental twin pregnancy!)

My key: budgeted/necessary spending
actual no spend day
: unnecessary/unbudgeted spending

My goals:
1/14 no-spend days
$0/$
0 unbudgeted/unnecessary spending
$95.60/$100 on groceries: week 1

Yeah, you're right. I think I just still have trouble telling the good spending from the bad spending, you know?

All right, this is going to sound like an excuse I know but our family budget for December didn't actually start until today due to the way dh get's paid. For that reason I'm choosing to forgive our terrible spending for the first 5 days of the month. I just finished doing December's budget and feel much better about how the rest of the month will go.

To go along w the spend challenge, I started the grocery under budget. We were under $400 for several months until last Spring when prices starting shooting up. So I have spent over $100 so far this month but I bought several deals for stocking up on meat. I made up two meatloafs to feed the freezer with, bought stew meat (will make on Sunday).

I am running low on stock so I will be making a huge stock of beef stock within the next week. All that is left of my last years meat 1/4 is the soup bones plus a few I have saved to make beef stock.

Last week got eggplants on sale (2 for about $1) so we made babaganoush last night w hummis and pita bread. We received a cucumber, tomato, and pepper in our produce box so chopped that up too. The kids love eating this as well.

"The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly out distances us."

Not doing too bad. I had to bring my sister to the ER this morning because she is pregnant (5 1/2 weeks) and was in such pain she only got 2 hours of sleep last night. They did an ultrasound to rule out a tubal pregnancy and we found out she is pregnant with twins. I paid for her to get Christmas photo cards with the ultrasound picture so she can surprise our parents. Needless to say everything looked normal at this point.

Dec 1:
Dec 2: $490.00 vehicle payment $0.75 pop
Dec 3:
Dec 4:
Dec 5: $20.01 gas $2.98 Christmas cards for my sister

Maybe he'll see how you are doing and start to emulate you. If not, at least your ~family~ is that much less in the hole because of what you are doing. You can lead by example.

When I fall off the wagon and spend money, I spend big.

$200 for gymnastics classes and a portion of preschool tuition for the girls. Ouch. That hurts the budget. But that will keep us busy until May and it is through our rec department so I like supporting community activities.

Friday is grocery shopping day for us. My goal is to buy only FOOD today. If I do that, I'll be happy. I like starting the weekend with a house full of food.

Ditto. As much as I hate to spew out this platitude. . . does it help to look at the bigger picture? Financially speaking, are you better off than you were before you started this Challenge? Is it safe to say that you're saving more than you would have without participating?

Dec 1st:£77.34 groceries. All still sick :
Dec 2nd: £6.50 groceries that DH insisited on to facilitate his recovery (no one ever recovered from flu without melon right?!)
Dec 3rd: £7.50 groceries, this time DH went and got them himself! £70 car tax, £1.14 postage.
Dec 4th: No spending at all. All still sick. School closed due to snow. :
Dec 5th: £49.40 groceries and household goods (inc some small Christmas gifts), that should last til 12/12 hopefully.

We have all been laid low with bad colds this week so saved on petrol, playgroups and sports that we usually spend on. I estimate we've saved £40 on petrol as well as £10.50 on activities. I *can* think of better ways to spend the week but I'm just looking on the bright side!

I don't want to talk about it. :

Okay, $40 of that was boots that I knew I'd buy if I found some that worked. Then I thought I'd just LOOK to see if anything was on sale. There was a lot on sale. I got a lot. I've decided that I'm going to return a couple things, so I'll reduce that by $50. And I was in pretty desperate need for work clothes (I'm still not fitting into my pre-pregnancy clothes). The thing that kills me is that my Kohl's card was the next debt that I was going to tackle....and now I just increased that debt by 50%. ARGH!!!!

I did really well at Target though....

Went to the dollar store and spent three dollars in painting supplies for my table-planned spending. Did the book buy back and managed not to tempt myself to buy anything new, whoo hoo! Tomorrow I'm off to a Christmas fair, but I am going to try really hard to buy NOTHING. It's getting easier and easier to go to functions and not pick up anything.

I'm also making a game of going as long as possible without going to the grocery store. While my cupboard and freezer seem pretty bare I've thought up about another weeks meals up off the top of my head. As we get low on items I write it down right then, so that when we do make trips to the market it's only for those specific things.

So, the $52 at walmart doesn't count today b/c it came from my mom. It was for Christmas tree trimmings and I'm taking it in the spirit it was given. So, did I need lunch at Wendy's? No. Do I let myself have lunch out every now and then to save my sanity? Yep. It's going in my misc category.

1. No Spend.
2. No Spend.
3. $2 coffee at DD, $13 at Indian Grocer, $75 EZ Pass Fees
4. $33 gas, $1214 Rent
5. $13 groceries, $5 Wendy's, $52 Wal-Mart, $400 DS School, $370 DD's School.

Tallies:

$7/20 - Misc
$25/300 - Groceries
$33 - Gas
$75 EZ Pass - should be it for the month.

Okay, I need this but am a little rusty. I was really good last year, but feel off the wagon and need to turn things back around. Anyways..............

a. My name is Erica and I have 4 beautiful little boys. My DH works full time and is self-employeed. I do some daycare during the day for a little extra cash. It helps pay our extremely over priced crappy health insurance.

We actually could have been debt free, but had a major change in plans this summer and ended up moving. So, our money to pay off our debt, went into moving and getting settled in. It was an okay and totally worth it change.

Hubby has been out of work for over a month and money is pretty tight but thankfully he is back to work and I am hopeful we will easily catch up.

b. Long Term Goals, to pay off our credit debt (not worrying about home loan yet)

Double money in our savings and start saving for a new vehicle

c. Plan, spend less, haha. Easier said then down. USE CASH! This will help me greatly, I got my cash in hand for the next two weeks. Stick with our budget and make do. Track spending and make rough draft of our new budget, this will be my trial and error month. I want to bring in the New Year with confidence!

December Goals

$11.33/300 ~ Gifts
0/400 ~ Groceries/Personal Items/Household Items
$17.26/60 ~ Eating Out
4/18 ~ No Spend Days

Dec 1:
Dec 2: $6.75 on lunch, $7.50 on ornaments for my mom
Dec 3: $7 on hot cocoa and candy to go Christmas light looking. Definitely not feeling bad about that one!
Dec 4:$10 on lunch
Dec 5: I spent $20 going out for a friend's 21st, but I planned for it in advance, so it doesn't count! : And I got the flannel sheets we desperately needed for our king size bed NEW for $18!!!

Specific Goals:
Lawyer's Fees- $0/$1179 (no actual goal, just want to keep a running total SOMEWHERE!)
No Unecessary Driving Days- 4/20
No eating out days- 1/25
Christmas budget- $7.50/50
No frivilous spending days- 2/18

Deni. I'm the liberal, Jesus-loving, hippie freak your mama warned you about. Expecting a cinco surprise, spring 2014!
