Stephanie -- that badge thing is tricky. I'm still thinking about that one. Because I can't see an easy solution for you.

Jen: one GOOD thing about the debit card is that you have an online record of all your spending. You can just record here on a 2-day delay, and not even worry about saving receipts!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3/1: $500 cash taken our for all food expenses this month ($20 of that fed the drawer), amount in checking account that's above our minimum comfort level "swept" into savings
3/2: $29.06 groceries, $6.87 household goods
3/3: $39 case of pull-ups arrived from Amazon
3/4: $11.46 localharvest order, $25.52 groceries (isn't it clever how they have the localharvest pickup at Whole Foods?),$20 eyebrow/lip wax, $14.92 household misc. at Wally-world
3/5: went on a day trip - $15.82 gas, $4 fast food that is coming out of the food budget because I left my bag of change in the car. Then $15 for my dinner at Mom's Night Out.
3/6: $11 food, 72.25 household at Costco. I'm so glad dh finally let me buy him some pants that fit!
3/7:
3/8: $40 Hooked on Phonics Kindergarten set (a big discount!), $4 food at Purim festival.
3/9: Exercised! Shifted $80 from grocery envelope to drawer. Milk and eggs at farm $5, $24.97 groceries, $12.30 Mickey-Ds, $11 haircut.
3/10: $14.30 gas, $5 at Subway, $81 dollar traffic ticket that I actually counted the day it was issued in February, but I am just going to count AGAIN to punish myself some more. Plus, I paid it out of my grocery envelope. $174 on food for the rest of the month - THAT should put a crimp in my drive-thru habit! Good thing dh is going out of town on business for two weeks - his organic fruit consumption factors hugely into our food costs.
3/11: $29.36 garden stuff at Home Depot, $5.30 shirt, $15 new sunglasses ( and a candy bar) at Target
3/12: $3.22 at for a bagel at the kosher deli (don't regret it!), $40.64 household stuff at Wally-world, $40.87 garden stuff at Wally-world, $23 for SIL's birthday present. Had to take out cash to pay a bill, and took out an additional $80 to feed the drawer.

Goals

1/1 Sweep into savings
152/400 on food (500 initial amt - 149 food- 100 drawer feeding - 81 traffic ticket = 170. I actually have 174 because of times that my change stash or random cash in my wallet "helped out" the envelope)
180/300 fed to the drawer
0/30 on finishing up kids' summer wardrobes
8/20 days doing homeschool lessons
1/12 days exercising

713/1200 total non-fixed-cost spending

Hi, ladies. Long time no see. We had to buy a laptop last week so I could get started with a new job opportunity, then we went on vacation, THEN we realized we left a bunch of our belongings at the cabin by accident, so we had to buy replacements for a bunch of stuff emergently. So we have basically BLOWN IT BIG this month. But my husband just left to go back to work today. He'll be gone two weeks (works offshore), and my goal is to spend $200 or less while he's gone. This should be quite the challenge since I'm used to spending $600+ in two weeks. This will be from today, March 12, through March 26.

3/12: $0

Total: $0/$200

Thanks for the encouragement!:

I'll start keeping better records again today. And, Smithie, you're right- I do have an automatic record using the debit card and online banking I just get frustrated because some charges go through right away and some take a few days. And it seems we spend more money with plastic (even though it's still coming right out of our bank account)

Maybe I'll start taking my grocery money and DH's "allowance" out at the beginning of the month.

Aaaargh! Costco didn't want to let me pay part cash, part Amex for my purchase. I guess I should have pushed harder. Oh well, the food $$ I spent on the card are going right into the drawer!

3/13: $3 n change for breakfast (I made myself tea, then stupidly left travel mug on kitchen counter), $.74 for pencil grasp thingies for dh (used the change), $42 groceries $68 household at Costco. Weds was def no spend b/c I was so sick.

Thurs, we had to buy snacks for school which came out to about $13. The rest of it was for dinner.

Today, I was so hungry after an appt with the realtor that I stopped on the way back to work and grabbed something. Not the best solution, but I'm still not feeling so hot, so I'm letting it slide.

There will be gas and a car washing fee, but my sitter did those things, so I don't know how much yet.

1. $0
2. $6.40 groceries/lunch
3. $0

i think you should buy yourself a klean kanteen from a group buy and _only_ drink out of that. also, i use flavoured mineral water from tj's or costco as a soda substitute. it's much better for you and bubbly too.

so, shipping strikes again : at least it's less than the co-ops. though i just signed up for three more of those too (here's what i'm anticipating for expenses sjaaks- 30, honey 164.40, tierra farms 250, just tomatoes 63.20, utn 37.00, azure 300) giving me an expected total of 807.60 for groceries this month in addition to the 277 i've already spent. oh jeez. i think i'm gonna have to back out of the jt and probably the sjaaks, darn! but really that's good because this is just the kind of thing i spend money on that we don't need. that's $100 right there! okay, it's done. thanks! that leaves me with $710, at least that's a little better....

-------------------------
so, goals for me:
$600 for food this month!
$60 spending money- $100 birthday money
$100 saved for grain mill

21/31 no spend days
10/31 budgeted spending
non-budgeted spending
29/31 get outside days (i know this has nothing to do with money but it's needed) :

2- :
3- 8.13 postage
4- :
5- 30 dr. appt, 217.88 grocery shopping, 36.32 gas, 10 diapers, 24.95 co-op chocolate :

9- 8.13 postage 205 utilities 14.86 shipping for co-op :

12- 100 mtn rose herbs (bday money) , 59.91 mtn rose herbs (grocery) :
13- 21.62 shipping :

7/21 no spend days
4/10 budgeted spend

277.79/600 grocery
87.69/60 spending money
100/100 birthday money

Hi, I'm Carrie.....SAHM to 3, all age 4 and under.

I already do a good job of not spending much at all. So I just want this little bit of extra support/encouragement to stop spending the little I do.

My goals are to save more money....but it's really not the money I'm interested in. It's my husbands time that I want. If I spend less, he can work less. Also, I want to end my part in America's consumerism.

I plan to do this buy shopping for handmade items when I do shop and I will buy at resale shops for family clothing.

I won't cut money out of our groceries. We eat well and I won't budge on that...I did start shopping at an organic co op that has great prices though so I'm hoping that does save us some money.

Welcome Carrie!

Sounds like great goals. I joined the Compact last year and it really made me concious of my consumerism. I do buy some new now, but I try to buy mostly second hand.

Hi Carrie! Welcome! It sounds like you have some pretty cool goals, totally different way of thinking!

I'm looking seriously at the compact - not sure how hard/easy it will be in Wyoming though.

I think you actually end up with cooler, more interesting stuff, it just takes longer to get it all. So, say you are moving into a new house... you could go buy new coordinated furniture, curtains, etc., but your house would look run f the mill. You could totally find cool stuff at thrift stores, CL, Ebay, but it would take you longer to find it all and put it all together.

I buy a mix now... some new stuff, some used. I tend to buy all my workout stuff, but all my other clothes used.

Household stuff is usually used unless it is specialty stuff like my juicer, etc. Plates, glasses, etc. are everywhere.
