Thanks for the birthday wishes!! We had a wonderful day and I even got a no-spend smilie.

Mainly because I spent the whole day with my husband and that man keeps the coin close to his heart.

He won't spend a dime if he can avoid it! I use him as my model for how I want to be.

- make sure we only spend $100 a week on groceries

weekly totals for food:
March 1 - March 7: 85/100
March 8 - March 14: 42/100
March 28 - April 5: 98/100

= budgeted spending
= non-budgeted spending
= no spending

3/1- on : 76.50
3/2- on : 3.00
3/3- 2.00 trip prep
3/4- 5.00 on : (baking ingredients) - $ came from change collection and not the grocery budget jar - we made a whole tray of brownies instead of buying two brownies for $5.
3/5- on : 6.50
3/6- finally... even if most of my spending has been within the budget
3/7- 5.00 on snacks while out and about with dh & ds
3/8- on : 42.00
3/9-
3/10- I don't remember - I was getting ready for my trip. not more than 10.00
3/11 to 3/26- I only spent the $ I had saved for my trip and didn't use my CC or the emergency $ I brought with me. Now it's back to real life.
3/27-
3/28- on 50.00 on bread machine & 30.58 on :
3/29- on : 68.00 - only 2.00 left for the week

thus far ive done really good on some of my goals (not eating out, not driving unnecessarily, knitting and reading). however, some of my goals im doing really poorly with (exercise, getting to the library, and i could use a few more "no spend" days).

i dont know what to do about my decluttering/cleaning/organizing goal. i clean the house at least 30 minutes a day (who could avoid that simply do to dishes, food, etc.) but i think i may start setting a timer each day for "decluttering..no cleaning" time...and see how that goes.

exercise...well, i guess i just need to get off my arse and exercise! lol

we've been sick this whole month it seems, thus the reason i exceeded my goal of letting the car rest.

i have to print this out tomorrow to see how im doing, but i think im doing great w/ our food budget. it looks like im actually saving enough to justify the unnecesary expenses (now if i could just stop those).

1 ::$103 food;
2:::
3 :$2.37: $1.25 choc.milk for ds at CM
4: $45 LLBean backpack; $100 Big Lots

6 : :
7:::
8:::
9 ::$70 museum membership
10::$5 DD; $5 DS snacks; $5 museum toy; $58 gas; $78 food store
11 : $80ish for seeds
12 : $2.09; $6 parking for Aquarium; $16 admission to Aquarium (library pass); ordered Chinese but less than usual.
13 ::
14 :
15 :::
16 ::$2.10 $52 craft store for spring craft bonanza
17 : long field trip 2 :$5.50 DD; $15 wooden toy puzzle;$5 train ride at museum $43.23 gas
18 $3.60 library fines; food store $156.
19 :::
20 HA oulet $167; gymboree outlet $15; : $3.23
21 :::
22 :::
23 :::
24 :::
25:: $73.16 food; 6.75 canning jars; $50 Frontier coop
26 ::
27 : $22.92 food store; $35 potting soil, seeds, and kid rake and broom at farm :
28 :::
29 ::
30 : $7.20 :; $45.74 gas; $146.05 LLBean rain gear for ds4, ds3 and myself; 2 more stainless steel drink containers

OK, I'm late but I'm back in. February's no-spend challenge was a real eye opener for me and my DH.

I'm Kelly, a WOHM to my 13 month old DS and wife to my DH. We have almost completely rebuilt our 6 month emergency fund, and want to work towards paying off my car loan asap and also budget for some ongoing yard/landscaping projects that we will mostly be doing by ourselves as exercise and gardening therapy.

I work from home a couple of days a week, and I hope to be able to not drive at all on at least one of those two days and also one weekend day.

3/1 - groceries
3/2
3/3
3/4 - milk and bananas for DS
3/5
3/6
3/7
3/8 - more groceries and an axe handle for DH (first one broken digging in our rocky yard). Also at lunch "out" (costco food court) but it was less than $10.
3/9 - 1.35 for some bananas
Time for some more accountability:

3/10
3/11
3/12 (consignment clothes for DS)
3/13 (groceries)
3/14 (groceries - chicken on sale)
3/15 more groceries, clothes for DS and miscellaneous wal-mart stuff for DS that we really did not need.
3/16 (shoe repair)
3/17 (thrift clothes for DS)
3/18
3/19 (consignment clothes for DS)
3/20
3/21 (home improvement projects)
3/22
3/23
3/24 :
3/25 (more consignment clothes for DS and something for me. Too much!)
3/26
3/27
3/28 (big dinner out with DH, but we only go about once every 5 months, so I can't sweat this. ALso, we had a free babysitter)
3/29 (home improvement)
3/30
3/31: : (hope I don't have to retract this!)

All in all, we could have done better this month but we did OK overall. Now that DS finally has some shoes for summer and bathing suits and such, I can hopefully cut back on clothes shopping for him. Also, I have finally lost my babyweight so I can now "shop" in my closet for myself! Yay! I'm back in for April.

My key:
no-spend day
- only necessary spending
- planned unnecessary spending
- totally blew it
:- no drive days

Kelly, wife to my wonderful DH , and mom to DS1 born 1/20/2008 and DS2 born 7/14/2010 by VBAC.

i think i may start setting a timer each day for "decluttering..no cleaning" time...and see how that goes
I'm coming to this conclusion too.

Everytime I decide to spend some time working on the house, I spend all of that time folding laundry and putting away dishes and vacuuming...just daily cleaning tasks.

I really need to spend some time doing MANAGEMENT stuff like going through the summer clothes.

I can't keep putting that stuff off until all the cleaning is done, because the cleaning is NEVER done. I need to just ignore it and dive into those closets.

- make sure we only spend $100 a week on groceries

weekly totals for food:
March 1 - March 7: 85/100
March 8 - March 14: 42/100
March 28 - April 5: 98/100

= budgeted spending
= non-budgeted spending
= no spending

3/1- on : 76.50
3/2- on : 3.00
3/3- 2.00 trip prep
3/4- 5.00 on : (baking ingredients) - $ came from change collection and not the grocery budget jar - we made a whole tray of brownies instead of buying two brownies for $5.
3/5- on : 6.50
3/6- finally... even if most of my spending has been within the budget
3/7- 5.00 on snacks while out and about with dh & ds
3/8- on : 42.00
3/9-
3/10- I don't remember - I was getting ready for my trip. not more than 10.00
3/11 to 3/26- I only spent the $ I had saved for my trip and didn't use my CC or the emergency $ I brought with me. Now it's back to real life.
3/27- 2.00 for two books from the library used book section
3/28- on 50.00 on bread machine & 30.58 on :

I think my pets need to go out and get jobs

I put $400 out my drawer into the bank, and got reimbursed for stuff I spent on the Purim fundraiser, but the vet just totally ruined my day and my month.

On the plus side, the animals are healthy and parasite-free.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

3/1: $500 cash taken our for all food expenses this month ($20 of that fed the drawer), amount in checking account that's above our minimum comfort level "swept" into savings
3/2: $29.06 groceries, $6.87 household goods
3/3: $39 case of pull-ups arrived from Amazon
3/4: $11.46 localharvest order, $25.52 groceries (isn't it clever how they have the localharvest pickup at Whole Foods?),$20 eyebrow/lip wax, $14.92 household misc. at Wally-world
3/5: went on a day trip - $15.82 gas, $4 fast food that is coming out of the food budget because I left my bag of change in the car. Then $15 for my dinner at Mom's Night Out.
3/6: $11 food, 72.25 household at Costco. I'm so glad dh finally let me buy him some pants that fit!
3/7:
3/8: $40 Hooked on Phonics Kindergarten set (a big discount!), $4 food at Purim festival.
3/9: Exercised! Shifted $80 from grocery envelope to drawer. Milk and eggs at farm $5, $24.97 groceries, $12.30 Mickey-Ds, $11 haircut.
3/10: $14.30 gas, $5 at Subway, $81 dollar traffic ticket that I actually counted the day it was issued in February, but I am just going to count AGAIN to punish myself some more. Plus, I paid it out of my grocery envelope. $174 on food for the rest of the month - THAT should put a crimp in my drive-thru habit! Good thing dh is going out of town on business for two weeks - his organic fruit consumption factors hugely into our food costs.
3/11: $29.36 garden stuff at Home Depot, $5.30 shirt, $15 new sunglasses ( and a candy bar) at Target
3/12: $3.22 at for a bagel at the kosher deli (don't regret it!), $40.64 household stuff at Wally-world, $40.87 garden stuff at Wally-world, $21.19 for SIL's birthday present. Had to take out cash to pay a bill, and took out an additional $80 to feed the drawer.
3/13: $3 n change for breakfast (I made myself tea, then stupidly left travel mug on kitchen counter), $.74 for pencil grasp thingies for dh (used the change), $42 groceries $68 household at Costco. ETA: a lady from my AP Meetup group just showed up with her bassinet, which I bought for $40 out of the drawer and $10 out of my grocery envelope)
3/14: $17.25 household (antacids for me, energy bars for dh's trip)
3/15: on the go all day today! About $8 on fast food, $40.37 for groceries. Once I buy milk and eggs from the farm, I do believe we are fixed for groceries until next week!
3/16: Exercised! $1 at bake sale
3/17: $5 Chick-Fil-A, $3 milk and eggs (balance came out of change bag), $17.50 gas, $24.50 car cleaned inside and out (it smells like pina coladas now!), $30 at consignment sale ($11 for shirts for ds, rest was maternity clothes for me and two things for the Easter baskets).
3/19: $30 groceries, $36 household (bras, b-day present for ds' classmate, waterproof mattress pad because dd ripped hers to shreds)
3/20:
3/21: $8.56 on fabulous locally-produced goat milk soap. Don't regret it!
3/22: Huge festival at the Temple! $48.50 on food, bouncy house and various Jewish items for the kids. Of course, I paid cash out of my grocery envelope. Have I mentioned yet how much I hate my grocery envelope?
3/23: $4 Dunkin Donuts, $17.17 groceries at Wal-Mart, $80 cash from ATM of which $20 fed the drawer to bring the total to $560. The rest of our building fund contribution is not until June, so I will definitely be able to cover that plus some other frills if I keep at it!
3/24: $20.21 on groceries (goodbye cash envelope! I will not miss you!), $43.36 glucometer and toys
3/25:
3/26: $7.09 at bakery (cookies for BIL), $7.80 Mickey-Ds
3/27: $71.99 at Wal-mart (big storage boxes, ANOTHER b-day present, little presents for my kids for absolutely no reason, South Beach bars, hand soap).
3/28:
3/29: $8 mikveh-day present for ds, $8 Chinese takeout (split with ILs and we used a coupon, so I have leftovers in my fridge!)
3/30: VET. $429.64. And the dog needs his teeth cleaned. :
3/31:

Goals

1/1 Sweep into savings
372/400 on food (I will never use the envelope system again! I loathe it!)
200/300 fed to the drawer
11/30 on finishing up kids' summer wardrobes
18/20 days doing homeschool lessons
2/12 days exercising

1747/1200 total non-fixed-cost spending

I need to go through the children's things and my own. I keep whining that I have "nothing to wear" once warmer weather comes, but the truth is I haven't even gotten the pre-pregnancy box out yet, so for all I know I have plenty to wear I just don't remember what is in there and I *want* to go shopping for myself (haven't seen that pre-pregnancy box in over three years LOL)

I went a little stupid/crazy at the end of February (stress shopping during my MIL's surgery) and bought a bunch of sew-your-own kits off one of my favorite etsy sellers to make things for the girls for this summer, but I haven't made a one :

I do not NEED to go shopping. I DO NEED to make use of what we have already. (lather, rinse, repeat!)

That's my motto, too! Going through the kids' stuff really inspired me. Going through my own stuff was rather less inspiring , but I still have a bag of stuff assembled to pull out when I'm packing up the maternity gear, so at the very least my shopping will take place AFTER I've tried on all the stuff I already have.

One of my biggest frustrations is that I end up spending $$$ on new stuff and still not filling the "holes" in my wardrobe because I just haven't got a clear idea of what fits/looks good in my current closet, so rather than no-spend, my goal for clothing purchases this summer is "smart-spend." A well-fitting bottom piece in a least three colors! A well-fitting top piece in at least three colors! A swimsuit I love! (That may require a miracle, rather than $$$.)
