We're going grocery shopping today. We were gone for three days and there are very few veggies in the house and only some apples for fruit. So, I'm going to spend less than $100 at the grocery store today.

I also have to buy our plane tickets for the trip to NY. EXPENSIVE, but necessary.

No-spend day:
Necessary spend day:
Frivolous spend day:
Get everyone moving day:

3/2: Balanced accounts and paid some basic monthly bills
3/3: DH spent $40 on groceries for dinner at home and his lunches for the next 2 weeks (no unnecessary spending : he did so well!)
3/4: Paid gymnastics tuition, $60 on dinner
3/5: $10 on the last of the supplies I need to start our seeds! :
3/6: $11 on the LAST of the seed starting supplies, $111 on groceries, $3 on totally frivolous thing
3/7:
3/8:
3/9:
3/10: Food co-op pickup scheduled
3/11:
3/12:
3/13:
3/14:
3/15:

I don't think I'm ever going to have an actual no-spend day either! I thought yesterday was going to be it, but then I realized DH bought the wrong thing for my seed starting efforts, so I decided to run out late last night and get the right thing. We needed milk and eggs and a few other things, so I did a quick trip to the grocery store to catch a few sales and buy some high-protein foods for me (I hardly eat any protein these days, and I'm worrying about my cortisol levels and my weight!). I only bought frugal food and healthy snacks though (yogurt, nuts, cottage cheese), so I didn't do to badly. The kids are sick though, so that may make today an actual no-spend day for me

- make sure we only spend $100 a week on groceries

weekly totals for food:
March 1 - March 7: 85/100

= budgeted spending
= non-budgeted spending
= no spending

3/1- on : 76.50
3/2- on : 3.00
3/3- 2.00 trip prep
3/4- 5.00 on : (baking ingredients) - $ came from change collection and not the grocery budget jar - we made a whole tray of brownies instead of buying two brownies for $5.
3/5- on : 6.50
3/6- finally... even if most of my spending has been within the budget
3/7- 5.00 on snacks while out and about with dh & ds

Well, I only spent $86 total and I might not have to go the grocery until Tuesday! And that $86 included $7 in shampoo/conditioner and a $12 CD that I've been wanting for a long time. I said the other day to someone that there's a saying around here that you can't go into Wal-mart and come out with spending less than $100, but ME, I have the opposite "problem" - I buy whatever I want and rarely, if ever, spend more than $100. And just FTR, this is small town Wyoming, so Walmart is really the only place to shop. There are two other grocery stores and I go there a lot, but for many things, they're just plain more expensive.

Thank goodness for long lines! I almost spent $27 on a shirt and 2 pieces of jewelry from h&m today, but thanks to the line that I had to stand in, I thought about it and put it back just before my turn to check out. If I still want it the next time I go shopping I might splurge, but not the jewelry - just the shirt. I also opted to stay in the car while my friend ran into target. Good Choice

1st : $3.50

I just saw this thread and I really need it!

I'm Crystal and I shop for no reason. I SAH, it's been cold and DH works wonky hours so I go to Target or the mall just to get out of the house. Most of the stuff I buy is on sale, but it doesn't matter b/c it's not stuff we need. I need to stop so we can kick more into our emergency money fund.

b. Where you are going (your financial goals)
We plan on going to Boston in August and I'd like to have enough for that by May or June, plus be able to replace what we're going to spend on a new roof by fall.

c. How you plan to get there
  • essential items only items this month (groceries, wipes, diapers, gas)
  • no new clothes this month
  • use the library instead of the video store, right now I don't even check to see if the library has the movie I want
  • walk to a place if I can and it's warm enough
  • no eating out, including lattes
  • plan meals around sales, buy more staples when they're on sale.

No Spend :
No Drive :
Expected and budgeted:
Unexpected, but budgeted spend aka my fun money :
Unbudgeted and unneeded spend

3/8 - bread - 1.50
3/9 - 25.00 - gas/15- vacation fund
3/10 - 55 - diapers/43 - groceries
3/11 - :
3/12 - 4 - groceries
3/13 - 7 - lunch/coffee out
3/14 - 32 - groceries

3/19 - :
3/20 - 32 - birthday gifts/40- groceries/5 - dog biscuits
3/21- - 96 - diaper covers/140 hotel room for a wedding in September (booking now saves $20-30)/12- dinner out

Well, it wasn't exactly frivolous spending, but it wasn't planned spending. I happened to be perusing the grocery fliers and saw that a few things we use a lot of are on good sales this week, so I bought the coupons to go with them so I can stock up. Other than that, I didn't go anywhere, so I didn't spend anything!

Happy Purim!

The first week of March is over, and even with my little Hooked-on-Phonics splurge this morning, I am pretty much on track!

(except for the exercise goal)

3/1: $500 cash taken our for all food expenses this month ($20 of that fed the drawer), amount in checking account that's above our minimum comfort level "swept" into savings
3/2: $29.06 groceries, $6.87 household goods
3/3: $39 case of pull-ups arrived from Amazon
3/4: $11.46 localharvest order, $25.52 groceries (isn't it clever how they have the localharvest pickup at Whole Foods?),$20 eyebrow/lip wax, $14.92 household misc. at Wally-world
