I was just lookin' over the June bargain thread & saw some awesome dumpster dive scores. What I would like to know is, if you do this, where do you tend to have the best results? I would like to start diving, but I don't know where I should go to look for stuff.

As a side note, a lady I used to teach with has a young son [15ish] who likes to go visit the backside of the Staples that is near their house. He has left there with all kinds of good office supplies, brand new condition, from the dumpster.

I have heard that Trader Joe's is good because they don't use a compactor. Too bad we don't have one where we're at now!

I've lived in towns where the small health food store and the small bakery will leave there day olds or just out of date veggies and breads out back for folks; but not in the dumpster. I would try smaller shops like that, and go on in and ask what they do with these items and if there is a certain day/time where you could pick them up.
