Ugh...this is NOT a good month. Running late too often to work this month...sinus congestion making it hard to get going in the morning...mcd's again...and again...and again.

One good thing -- or maybe not -- we got way more by way of a bonus at work than we ever imagined considering how not so good the company has been doing this past year. I didn't think we'd get anything at all. The good thing is that it is really helping with Christmas because there are five stepkids and two grandkids. The bad thing is that I've spent all of it and more. Went a little crazy because it's not going to be as austere a holiday as I first thought but I initially had thought that I was going to put some of it toward debts. HA!!

A little money in my hands, a little itch, and many stores later with lots of shopping and POOF! Little greenbacks gone in a flash.

  1. Friday 12/11
  2. Sat. 12/12
  3. Sunday 12/13
  4. Monday 12/14

Tomorrow is pay-day.
The money is going directly into my husband's account. The main account has .01 cent in it. I thought it was negative. I could've swore I saw it -42 the last I checked. My accounts do funky things. Like, haunting charges and different numbers. Are they doing this to confuse the heck out of me? I fear book-keeping with a registrar till it calms down. In the mean time, I will not touch it. dh will keep the cards.

My account is -41.

Since there hasn't been any weird activity going on in dh account, he is securing the income there.

To be honest, pay-day scares me. I'm so deprived for so long that when I do get money I feel possessed with an urge to purchase things we "need". Last night I had a nightmare that I spent $132.00 on Christmas items for the family and we went negative and had no money for food. I felt like I was going to hurl when I woke up.

So, I'll make the food list, dh will go buy the food.

The one thing that temps me the most on pay-day is starbucks. I HATE starbucks! There needs to be a national revolt against them for having their prices are so darn high! Its painful! I say this because I love their drinks so much so don't take me seriously, I'm not organizing a riot. LOL!

My dh will give me an allowance, cash. I can do whatever I want with it. I'll still report the spending, the cash too, here. dh encouraging me to get one starbucks per paycheck... I'm so addicted. I really wish I had an espresso machine.

I might as well start over next month. This month is killing me. Well, maybe not that bad if put in perspective but I set a high bar for myself when I started keeping track in these threads. I blame it on the holidays, working full time and trying to take short cuts. And I have jury duty tomorrow.

Christmas with my stepkids this weekend, too, and I had been hoping to take off work early this Friday. Hope I don't get picked!!!

budgeting is tricky when you don't know how much you have.

dh changed his passwords on his accounts. Thats where the money goes. I'm actually okay with him changing his password so I'm not tempted to move money into my account and spend it. He did move some money into my account to cover the overdraft charge. Unexpected, and I'm grateful.

this budgeting deal is driving me nuts.

Don't be hard on yourself...you are doing fine.

Tracking your spending seems like it would be a simple thing to do, but it is actually really really hard.

I think it is similar to dieting in that you have to stick with it for a loooooong time before you see any results.

You have to lower that bar over and over again to make it attainable. Then gradually lift it.

Just coming on here and thinking about where that money is going is progress.

VTmom, you're right. I was feeling sorry for myself in another thread, too. Pick myself up and go -- that's what I need to do each time.

I feel better now.

I almost went out to the mall tonight, but I didn't. $$ saved. I haven't been doing very well. I'll have no choice soon enough. We'll be broke. DH is going to be work part time and myself per diem. This madness will continue until they give DH full time or I finish school in 3 years.

S-d D which made them three. M grew lonely, and now there's baby D.

OK the thread title is "climb on the wagon" but I have allowed christmas to make me fall off the wagon. At least I'm done christmas shopping....

I was supposed to work 12 hours today, but instead I'm making $2 per hour for being on call, and then not working again until the first of January. I love being home w/ my family, but all these call-offs are really not helping my bank account. All the more reason to NOT spend, huh...

11/30
12/1 $97 Kroger ($82 groceries, $10 kid stuff, $2 baby stuff, $3 me) :
2
3
4 $17 homeschool (mazes, workbooks), $25 xmas gift, $6 book for me
5
6
7
8 - $16 baby stuff, $100 groceries
9
10- $60 groceries :
11
12
13
14
15 ~$300 groceries and household stuff in preparation for hosting xmas and 8 days of houseguests (this tends to happen when DH shops w/o me)
16
17
18
19
20 $203 Kroger ($90 gifts, $113 groceries), $40 gasoline

Budgeted:
Groceries /household $655 / $360
Gas $40 / $100
Homeschool $17 / $20
Kid clothing & items- $10 / $20
Baby $2 / $30
Gifts $25 / $50
Medical copays $0 / $20
me spending $9 / $30
No spend days 13 / 20 days

Other goals:
: Exercise 4/10
Declutter/ Deep clean 1 / 5

The good news: spending did not get totally out of control with my folks here, as I feared it would.

The bad news: the interest payment on our house loan is going to be a percentage point higher than I thought it would be. It's still a great rate, but total monthly spending just went up quite a bit!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dec. 1: $100 for babysitting this month, $100 cash for miscellaneous spending this month, $100 for cleaner. $724 holding costs on the house we cannot sell, $68.16 at Earth Fare

Dec. 2: $10.50 lunch meeting, $188.75 auto and liability insurance

Dec. 3: $65.09 homeowners' insurance

Dec. 4: $15.31 at Subway, $5.43 at Dunkin Donuts, $107.53 at Walmart, $6.36 prescription copay

Dec. 5: nothing posted to accounts

Dec. 6: nothing posted to accounts

Dec. 7: nothing posted to accounts

Dec 8: $97.38 groceries, $6.36 Dunkin Donuts,

Dec. 9: $87.31 gas bill, $145.93 Target (ack! Hanukkah!), $58.62 Costco

Dec. 10: $32.89 groceries

Dec. 11: $405.25 preschool tuition, $157.44 for compost delivered to amend garden

Dec. 12: $51.80 groceries, $46.64 to rent tiller when mine wouldn't start, $17.12 takeout

We went to the movies last night and finished up DS's present.

Movies $30 Presents $20 Coffee $5

I need to get a friend her gift, and all the family gift cards. 6 total.

S-d D which made them three. M grew lonely, and now there's baby D.

Dear No-Spend Challengers,

Periodically I need to take a break from this thread.

In this case I'm trying to reduce the amount of time I spend on the internet (way too much). I'm spending more time surfing the internet than I would like. MDC is not my main weakness, facebook is, but still...

If there are threads open that I want to post on, then that is just an excuse for me to log in every day. So periodically I remove that excuse from my repretoire.

So would someone else be willing to start our January thread?

You can copy and paste my text from the beginning of this thread or make up your own text and start the thread however you would like!

Thank you in advance! I'll catch back up with you guys when I have my internet usage time back in balanced reasonable proportions.

Prudence
