So far:
Key: No spending at all ; Only necessary spending: ; Unplanned, unecessary spending:
1/ -
2/ - Allowance payout
3/ -
4/ - Groceries, b'day present for DS (2nd hand drum kit from friend who really needed the cash)
5/ - Electricity bill
6/ - lunch boxes for kids. Useful, but we didn't actually need them. And school uniforms for kids.
7/ - school supplies for kids, chicken and a couple of groceries.
8/- Kids were away and DH wanted to get takeaway and DVDs. I had allocated on takeaway this month, so I suppose this is it. Cranky with him that he refused to pay for his DVDs out of his allowance. (Note to self: need to find balance).
9/- DH dragged me into the sports shop and we bought snorkel sets for him and the kids. Good thing they all have b'days coming up as these will be birthday presents.
10/- Water bill
11/- Groceries - about 1/3 weekly budget
12/-
13/-
14/-
15/- dentist for DD, got most back from health fund; insurances
16/- DVD hire for family, and Groceries (still under budget)
17/-
18/-
19/- registration for DH's boat trailer

This is an insane bill month, and a very low income month, so even without any extra spending it's crazy tight.

Goals and Amounts for January
2 or less unnecessary spend days: 2/2
15+ days with $0 spent: 10/15 in 18 days
No eating out that I pay for all month: 18/31 --100% so far
decluttering: goal exceeded! up to 408 items/230
Eat well within food budget: $167/$280 in 5 trips
Set expenses: $328
Track travel expenses: $10 ACTUAL
Unnecessary spending: $38
Unplanned grocery trips: 1=$8
Find a job: still nothing

1-
2-
3-bought groceries , used close to 1/4 of monthly budget
4- returned a couple Christmas gifts, now have $37 store credit at JCPenney's- eta I have about that much at Toys R Us too.. hmmm..
5-grabbed an onion and a zucchini at the store <$2, + a splurge of $6
oh, and paid all the bills! $309 Most months it's more like $200.
6-
7-
8- groceries were $46
10- tagged along to two stores and still spent nothing!
11- planned lunch out for my brother's birthday (my dad's treat)
12- pretty much stayed home
13- $17 in groceries, right on track! Still need to run to a different store (need a car to get there) for a few things...
14-
15-spent $32- definitely "unnecessary"
16-60 cent library fine
17- other than our fare for train and three cta buses each way, we didn't spend a cent! ETA: thanks to the 2 hour transfer window, buses were only $5 all day! and because of the weekend pass, we were able to ride round trip on the train for only $5. Worst case scenario, this same trip could have costed a ttoal of $19.30!
18- finally got to the cheaper produce store for basics, got a good deal on bananas & broccoli...$11 also bought some of my mom & brother's groceries (dairy, random stuff) at the regular store. $19 Realized we haven't been getting much fruit, but everything that looked good in the produce store was on our organic-only list so I will need to make it to WF sometime this week.

I would love to join even though it is almost through the month if that's OK.

I am a WAHM of one DD (2.5 yrs) and married to my DH who is incredibly depressed and miserable and hard to be around, which is largely because he hates his job. It is the only job around here that will pay him what he needs to make to support us at our current spending...so...we need to save. NOW. and lots...so that we can have a safety net so that he can quit and do something he LOVES or at least doesn't hate! I'm scared about changing our ways...but really excited about the prospect of having a fun loving and happy DH again.

I am hoping to spend nothing we don't need to spend on from now until the end of the month. I know it's not long...but for me, it will be tough I also want to have more days at home...both for money reasons and to spend more "quality time" with DD.

ok, WOW!! I just added up all of our spending for the month prior to making this decision about changing our lifestyle. We spend a total of $750 in totally useless, not necessary things! Holy crap...I must stop this insanity. wow. total reality check there

My Key:
= nothing spent!
= necessary spending.
= stayed home. No car use!
= $ coming in (selling something, paydays and so forth)
= unnecessary spending

19: $9.00 at Goodwill for some clothes for DD
20: $7 at Dollar Tree for some V-day goodies for kiddos. (this is somewhere between necessary and not necessary money...LOL
21: grocery shopping (budgeted $75 and spent only $60) yes!!
22: baked and cooked today!!
23: Took stuff to Goodwill. but bought DD some clothes too $8.00
24: Took more stuff to Goodwill. YES!
25: Stayed home with DD and BFFs DS.
26: $5 pregancy test

welcome, ice queen! Of course you can join any time It sounds like you and DH have done some heavy thinking about what you value most. If you are working on it together, you can definitely tame your budget! Good luck!!

I would love to join this in February. I'm planning ahead and getting some expenses out of the way this month (heartworm meds for my dog, sewing machine repairs, hair cut, computer, etc) so that I will have less "necessary" spending to discourage me in Feb and March. I am planning to spend absolutely NOTHING that is not necessary in those two months, and see how much I can save. I know the holidays are hectic, but my money just seems to be flying out the door these past few months and I'm tired of it! I have savings goals that I am determined to reach...

Married to my sweetie and enjoying life with our fabulous dog.  Expecting #1 in August 2012!!!!

Not doing too bad so far this month! It really helps that I've been pretty much stuck in the house, 20+ minutes away from any store. We've been using up all kinds of forgotten foods from our pantry, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to stay under $10 (my remaining budget for groceries) for the next 2 weeks, as that would involve not feeding my kids any fresh produce for the last week of the month- something I'm not willing to skimp on.

1/1-
2- $5 DD medicine, $12 baby items, $74 groceries, $34 gasoline
3 $17 Amazon books ($4 self spending, $13 homeschool books)
4
5
6 $20 dr visit copay, $6 prescription for DS, $9 drive-thru to thank SIL for babysitting DD while I took DS to dr
7
8: Sledding!
9: Sledding!
10-
11- $106 groceries :
12- :
13
14
15
16 Returned a gift and got $26! $48 gasoline
17- Meal Plan. Coupon. Plan shopping trip
18 :
19

Groceries/ household: $189 / $200 keeping it low this month as our pantry is VERY well stocked!)
Kid and baby stuff: $20 / $20
Homeschool: $13 / $20
Blow money for self: $4 / $30
Gasoline: $82 / $100
Gifts: 0 / $10
Medical copays: $11 medicine

Total January budgeted = $480
Total January spent = $283

Goals:
No spend days 15 / 15
Declutter 4 / 5
Exercise 4 / 10

Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength.”
