I believe your shelter portion goes up too if I'm not mistaken. I know here in NB it does.

April will be a much better month for me financially I think. My Mac payments have been $150 a month and I only have 2 left, though the 2nd one due in April should only be $100! Then I'm done!!!

I found a new roommate who will actually move in tomorrow and pay just $100 cash for the month of March since she'll be on the couch cuz the current roommie is still in the room until end of March. That $100 is extra and will help a lot. She'll also be teaching me Spanish and I need to learn it,so that saves on any lessons I thought about paying for.

For my April check I should be paid the extra money for the pregnancy allowance and that will help me stock up on some goodies, well I mean healthy things that I can stomach! lol They back pay it too,so it will be like 2-3 months worth I think. Woo hoo!

I still need to sit down and rework my budget and debt payment stuff and get my papers together to get taxes done.

Hi, everyone. HAPPY LAST DAY OF FEBRUARY

Please(please, please, please ) let March be better than February (and January, for that matter )

I finally found a good dentist that takes my insurance () AND isn't a complete HACK (according to 2 friends that are patients of his) so, there's a possibility that I might finally be able have "normal" teeth again.

Well, it's March but- I'm not happy!

New car repairs are more than we budgeted for- I need to create money STAT!

On top of that, my boss is shorting my hours- we handwrite them to submit them on timecards, then she submits them for a coworker and myself. Both coworker and I have noticed that they seemed a touch low- this week, we are both down over 10 hours. :/ I love my job, but I can't afford to work for next to nothing.

Does anyone know anything about section 8?

What your boss is doing is totally illegal!! You can report that to either your companies HR department or if it is a small company contact the labor board for you state.

As for section 8, there is usually a really LONG waiting list. If you are even concidering it put yourself on the list NOW.

I know that what she's doing is illegal- and my coworker and I will follow it through to see what we can do about it. Sadly, my boss is really struggling in many ways right now, so while we can correct it, it's going to be a while before things are resolved. Ultimately though, I really like the job, and a change means commuting at least an hour each way.

As for the section 8- I know the list in this area is frozen. I'm hoping that it's going to unfreeze soon, but can't find info about it.

Well I got some good news today My mom agreed to shuttle us around 1x a week locally for 2 hours so I can get my shopping done/pay bills but were still on our own for Dr appts and I'll need to rent a car for out of town appts but with luck I'll be able to hold off buying a car for a couple of months and save up as much as possible Now all I need to do is find a toddler bike seat for the back of my bike since dd outgrew the bobike. My 9 yr old is finally getting better at riding a bike (she's just learning as we never had a place she could ride) and today I took her on a ride to the bank which was only about 2 miles but the poor kid was beat! Felt good to feel the wind in my hair again though and OMG, I LOVE MY BIKE!!! I bought it over a year ago and its just been sitting there waiting to be used, looking forward to it! Need to set it up with baskets though but one thing at a time

I realized the regional bus that goes between the cities (40+ miles away) goes straight to walmart/target (only $4-6 round trip depending on which city) and if I can bum a ride once a month into the city for major stuff I'll be set! (actually going to try getting 2-3 months worth of stuff if my friend doesn't bail on me next week so I won't have to worry about it for a while.)

So, all looks good at this point!

Seriously?

Satori, since you really enjoy bike riding, I would suggest looking for a trailer or even a tandom bike rather than another car. I know this might not be feasible but I've heard of families with children getting trailers that little ones can sit in, and with a tandom bicycle your nine year old would have help and perhaps not be so wiped out. Of course, it would depend on the weather in your area, etc. When I lived in CA I walked everywhere and rarely had a problem, but now that I live in MO forget about it, the weather is much too tempermental (nevermind it's almost impossible in our rural town). I just thought it may be an option for you considering you wouldn't have to pay insurance, etc. How much is it to rent daily or even for the weekend? If you don't think you'll have to do it that often it might be in your best interest to just go that route longterm. It does depend on whether you'd like a car too though!

Well yay me....I got a second job.

It's actually a good job, a newspaper route. My only complaint is the resulting lack of sleep, but it's only a couple hours a day and pays around $150-200 a week. Eventually once dd is born and I can walk faster I'm hoping I'll get a second route and then I'll be able to do just newspaper routes and stay home during the day with the kids.

Dp and I are so tired right now and fighting all the time. It's just a result of the stress and fatigue but it can't be helped....we decided we have to hustle for a couple months so we can be ahead before dd is born. I keep reminding myself this working 24/7 thing is only temporary. But like today, I did the newspapers from 2-5:30 AM and now I'm at my other job from 9:30-7, lord I am tired! And poor dp got home at 2 AM himself and had to get up to take me to work at 8:30 and now has to take care of ds all day and then go back to work at 5.

This too shall pass....this too shall pass...this too shall pass...I just visualize the paycheck

I think I need to find another PT job so that I can keep making extra money. We're super low on cash right now and plus we're trying to buy a house so we're not throwing our money away on rent.

Probably not what you want to hear but often it looks like owning a house is cheaper but maintenance alone can really nail you and when you add it all up renting usually is cheaper these days.

Bike riding is fine in late spring/summer but not something I would recommend year around for here, I actually only know of 1 person who rides year around but thats for the best for all our safety (he's actually a very good friend of mine and has been for years, he's just a really really bad driver). Anyway I used to ride year around as well before I got a car but there's a very real risk of frostbite in cold weather and we often have poor road conditions. I wouldn't trust a kid without years of road experience on it. I need to practice myself, not used to these thin tires. I've always had bigger mountain bike tires. (Any idea if I can switch out the tires? I've always had mountain bikes and not a commuter bike) I would also need to buy dd a better bike, one with gears since not much is flat road here but I already plan on buying her a better bike once she gets a lot better on this one. Right now she won't even look around for traffic while riding so she's not allowed out without me period and I'm only taking her around the neighborhood and that alone worries me (never thought teaching a kid to ride a bike would be a stressful experience!). Hoping to get her into one of the bike riding safety classes in the city soon after she gets a bit steadier.

Renting a car will be around $100 for 3 days after you add in ins fee's and stuff, I'll have to rent one at the end of the month when we go up to the hospital. Usually weekends are much cheaper so future appts I will try to get on a Friday so I can pick up the car early Friday morning and make appts in time then get back home and still have 2 days to run around to do major shopping (we usually do a major shopping trip while doing the hospital thing anyway) before returning the car Monday morning.

Seriously?

Satori - Where we live the COL is really cheap and my DF has crunched all the numbers and even with maintence cost its infinitely cheaper to buy then it is to rent so Its not that we don't make enough that we couldn't afford it but my DF likes to spend his money on crap that we don't even need and stuff for him.

He makes $1600/month I make about $1200 or just a lil more. Our rent is $700 alone with nothing include we pay all the utilities. And with us working with a mortgage broker and working out the numbers the Mortgage would work out to $430 a month which is almost $300 cheaper then our apartment is costing, and that is for a 3 bedroom house with basement. Here we only get 2 bedrooms and not a lot of storage.

Be careful with this.
1. Don't forget about city taxes. Between city and school taxes, we pay about $300 extra per month on top of our mortgage payment, which only has to be about $550.
2. Don't underestimate repairs and maintenance. No one's going to be coming to fix it for free when a pipe springs a leak or the hot water heater isn't hot anymore. A roof is not cheap. Landscaping and yard maintenance cost money and takes time.
3. Utilities for an apartment are cheaper than utilities on a house. Shared walls vastly reduce the amount it costs to heat an apartment compared to a house.

I'm not saying this to discourage you, I just wish I'd gone into home ownership with a better understanding of just how much it really costs.
