I'm not understanding the icons and such but I'm going to give it a try, since I really want to save up money while we're both making decent money and we have jobs. So, my goals are to figure out our actual needs vs. frivolous spending and figure out where we could cut back and where we can't.

So, this is a practice run for me

Goals - spend less money and spend more wisely on food and other purchases
Clean out unnecessary items, donate or sell I suppose an item(s) per month would be a good idea. So for May I'm going to say I'll get rid of 40 items.
organize and clean house and kitchen - ridding our very tiny kitchen of items that we don't use.
Create workable budget and reduce spending and increase savings
Get Hubby on board... he's currently behaving like a donkey... very stubborn!!!

4/28 Pizza for kids $20 (want) Gasoline $10 (need)
4/29 Groceries $26 (need)
4/30

Mom of 5 working full-time and waiting to go to nursing school! Whew! I need a nap! joy.gif

Welcome Fairy Doula! The icons are just for fun, they help some of us keep track -- however you record on the thread is fine. Glad to have you with us.

1.
2. ordered our homeschool curriculum for next year. I'm putting this here preemptively to encourage me to NOT SPEND when I go out later
3. $50 bread, eggs for dying, and the last of the Easter baskets things at WalMart
4.
5.
6. ordered the last of the things I need for DS1's dinosaur party, was able to stay under budget AND found an online coupon code to save on shipping, also ordered our sunblock/ bug spray for the year~ unprepared for how DS1's soccer practice being at 5:30pm would affect us and got McD's for dinner.
7.
8. ordered our math curriculum for next year, excited to get started planning next year's schooling
9. $15 on quick grocery trip
10. $$ at Costco, major grocery shop, overspent a bit on some snacks
11. $$ at party store. I only needed 1 thing, invitations, but of course the WHOLE family was w/ me, and DH saw a bunch of stuff he thought would be *great* for DS1's party : So we spent more than I planned on things I don't think we really needed

15.
16.
17.
18.
19.
20.
21.
22. McDonald's for lunch and pizza delivery for dinner (all within budget). We were out all day, stopped by my mom's and spent WAY too much time there.
23.
24. DS1's birthday party. Bought bags of sand for the "dino dig" at Home Depot, budgeted for.
25. DH got a haircut. Normally I cut his hair, but I was so tired from the party and he couldn't wait. Didn't really have the haircut budgeted for.
26. Putting this all here preemptively. We're not leaving the house at all and I'll be spending the day returning the house to pre-party conditions.
27. Off to soccer practice now with our sandwiches, apples, and juice boxes

It's the end of a month. I didn't hit all of my goals but I'm overall I'd say moderately satisfied with the month. I only had one day with out of budget spending, but three "extra" eating out/ordering days (which came out of fun money but still we are trying to eat at home). I got another whack load of stuff out of the house this month and I'm going to aim for another 300 in May.

Best of all I *finally* got my butt in gear and hit my fitness goal

20: ($35 on 55% off bras, advanced from May's clothing budget. I put off getting them this month in order for DH to get some clothes, then the 55% sale came on that I had been waiting for so went for them. I only get bras every 3 yrs or so.)

22: ($35 on shoes for DS and me)
23: (DH bought DS a bow for archery. He's going to work this weekend to pay it off. I'm not tracking DH though, he's usually a pretty bare-boned spender, so I'm marking today as since I had nothing to do with it.)
24: ($49 on pantry-building supplies)
25: ($10 on spray paint and BBQ brush, $15 on groceries for having guests for dinner....)
26: ($12.23 extra groceries)

Overall I'm ok with April but May is going to be interesting with no money coming in.
Drove alot more but forgot to include drs appt and such.
FS did last longer and could have made it last even longer if not had pregnancy cravings.
We ate at home for all dinners and all but one lunch so that was good. Cleaned the whole house faster then expected, now just have to keep it clean till at least baby girl's been home for a little bit. Now onto May.
