Not a very good month for me spending wise. The kids have all grown sooooooo much and everyone needed new underwear, t-shirts, shorts, pjs. The sales were outstanding and I paid less for new things than I would have at the resale shops. Really though, I should expect this annual need for clothes and simply budget it in. But I never do and then get taken by surprise at how much clothing we need.

May 1 -- 6.00 italian ices for kids

May 12 -- big spending day, swim team sign-ups, bathing suits, clothes for the kids

Crumbs.

I sent in the last payment to the cc. As of 9 am this morning, I was cc free! And then I loaded the kids in the van only to find that someone broke the side window and it will be over $200 to replace it.

So frustrated.

So what I've learned from not coming here the past almost week () is that I really really do better if I DO come here and be accountable. I was doing *so* well and then... not so much. But I'm here now to confess my sins and hopefully get back on track.

Goals for the Month of May
1. No unplanned spending: 12/31
2. Prepare all meals at home or in the home of friends or family: 12/31
3. Stay out of TH and don't eat processed food!: 12/31
4. 300 items decluttered: 246/300
5. 13 days with exercise in them: 0/13
6. Bring in extra money from my business: 91%

Key:
- No Spend or Budgeted Spending only
- Unbudgeted Spend
- All meals eaten at home
- Ate out at a restaurant or ordered food in
- Ate at Tim Hortons or ate junk food
- Decluttered stuff out of the house
- Exercise

May 10:
May 11: (I ate lunch out... it was the start of a slippery slope but at least this meal was from a local co-op restaurant)
May 12: (someone else paid but I still went...)
May 13: x 2
May 14: (uh yeah, today really really sucked for staying on track)

I've been bad lately. But I'm still keeping track anyway, even though I'd rather gloss over all my recent impulse buying ($3 here and $2 there can really add up.).

--------------------------------------------------------
1- $40 bday gift for DS! $14 book for me.
2- $186 groceries for next 2 weeks, $28 gasoline, $12 kid shoes, $12 yarn for newfound yarn habit, $7 DS bday items
3-
4- $32 food for DS bday party; $2 household item
5-16:
$10 gifts, $32 garden, $62 groceries, $75 gasoline, $17 fabric/ clothing yard sale, $10 kid stuff yard sale, $3 used books, $8 fast food, $2 DD toy, $3 work lunch
-------------------------------------------------------
Groceries + household- 250 / 500
Kid items- 24 / 60 (planning to stock up for the next year at yard sales)
Blow money for me - 49 / 40 (includes work lunches)
Gasoline- 103 / 120
- no spend day

Expected expenses:
DS bday + party- 79 / 80
Gardening- 32 / 30

I was sick all last week so I'm just getting to updating now.
Key:
no spend/ budgeted spending
unnecessary/ unbudgeted spending
hung laundry to dry

Goals for May
no spend days 11/20
eating out 2/2
hung laundry to dry 3/10

1. Way to start off the month $7 at Starbucks after DS1's soccer game. Also spent $$$ on Keens for DH and I at Zappos.
2. $$ spent at Target for a new vacuum (ours broke over the weekend) and a new small coffee maker (I broke the pot on ours over a week ago.) While these were replacements, we hadn't budgeted for them. I did use a GC to pay for some of it, though, so it wasn't a total bust. Also spent $$ at IHOP for lunch.
3.
4. $56 for fabric to make the kids bathing suits
5. spent most of the day at the park w/ the kids for a playdate with good friends. Planned well for a picnic, brought extras of everything.
6. $$ grocery shopping
7. $$ at McDonalds for dinner. Really wasn't needed, I was too lazy to cook anything
8. $$ grocery shopping.
9. $83 at JoAnn Fabrics (went in for swimsuit elastic, walked out w/ yards of fabric )
10.
11. $52 fabric. DD needs clothes and I don't like anything that's out there, so I'm making them.
12.
13.
14.
15. $30 on soccer pics for DS1.
16.

I hope you don't take offence to this. If this is something you love, than good on ya and please ignore my post, but if you're hoping to save $$ by making things you may want to re-evaluate your strategy.
I do love sewing, and I actually save quite a bit sewing my children's clothes myself. Of the $191 on fabric I've spent, I will actually get wardrobes for quite a few seasons. I don't buy fabric just for my intended purpose this season, I kinda buy in bulk. So the $56 I spent on bathing suit fabric will make about 14 suits, so including elastic, lining, and thread (all bought on sale), my kids' suits (customized to their bodies) for the next 3-4yrs will cost about $6 each (and the fabric is high quality swimsuit fabric from a boutique children's line). The cotton/lycra I just bought was about $4/ yd (including shipping) and DD still uses just under 1yd for a pair of leggings, about 1/2yd for bike shorts. Leggings and bike shorts wear much faster in this house and are hard to find at the local 2nd hand shops. For me to buy similar at Gymboree or Children's Place, I'd pay $10 for a pair of bike shorts I can make for about $3. Some o the fabric will also be for shirts for me. I already own the patterns, so for about $8 I'll have a top that fits me just the way I like in a much better quality than WalMart. Sounds like good buys to me. And I lucked out, the last $52 purchase ended up being $37 b/c I was overcharged for shipping.

I'm starting in the second half of the month, but it's got to happen sometime.

a. I'm IngaAnne, a WOH, breastfeeding mom of a very busy, multiple food allergic, and happy 11 month old boy.

b. We worked hard to get out of credit card debt and want to stay that way. Our house has been a money pit so far with things constantly needing repair/replacement, so we need a cushion for more surprises. I also want another kid in the next few years and it'll cost more for two kids in daycare than I earn, so we'll need extra cash while I stay at home until the kids are older. Basically, we really need to build up our savings.

c. My bank accounts are set up for automatic transfer. When I get paid (every two weeks), the money for daycare plus a little extra gets moved to savings for safekeeping. This leaves about $200 a week ($800 a month) for groceries, diapers, my cell phone, my car insurance, gas, vet bills for one dog, co-pays for the doctor, etc. I also take advantage of tax-free dependent care flex spending, so every 10 weeks, I get the equivalent of a month’s daycare cost back. This is going straight to savings. On the odd month when I get an extra paycheck, it goes towards extra expenses or savings. Almost my entire budget is non-negotiable, but I do spend too much on extras. It's easy to say no to huge unnecessary expenses, but those little items eat up my paycheck (a chips and soda or candy stop for a snack, fast food lunch, dinner at Chipotle, cute shirt on sale for my son, etc.). Groceries are my other big expense. With my and my son’s special dietary needs, it’s easy to overspend on specialty items rather than just sticking to basic whole foods. I'm budgeting $100 a week for groceries, $200 a week for everything. Even with my son's birthday coming up it should be doable. Other than wrapping paper and a few decorations, I have his birthday stuff already purchased.

5/17 - $1.20 for soda

Mom to one happy Senorcito (06/09) ... allergic to wheat, nuts, dairy, eggs, sesame, peas and soy.

5/14: okay not a no spend day. I bought a gift at kohl's for dd's friend who is having a party tomorrow and a clearance book to bump the total over $10 to use my $10 coupon. Total was $2.37. Not really a budgeted spend, but worth it and it's a good gift too
5/15: $6.50 for a field trip for both kids
5/16: took dd to a play I bought tickets to a few months ago...$5 for parking and $10 for dinner because we were starving and far from home. Here's to a much more successful "no spend" week.
