Hi all. I'm new here.

WHO AM I
My name is Karen. I'm married to a wonderful man and have a 3-year old daughter.

WHY I AM HERE
I am the sole breadwinner in my family. My DH stays home because my earning potential is significantly higher than his (more than double). Working full-time to pay all the bills means spending less time with my daughter, so I figure if I HAVE to do it, I might as save as much as possible so that down the road I can have more options, like working part time.

I'm very lucky in that I have no student loan debt and no credit card debt. I have a DREAM to pay off my mortgage in 5 years.

If I can do that, I could see the possibility of cutting back to p/t though that brings up needing to pay for family health insurance which is quite expensive.

In any case, my goal this year is to save 40% of my salary. I know that sounds drastic but I think it is doable with a big NO SPEND plan. I'm started this plan today.

So:

5/23/2010: $0.00

Ugh... our budget for this month has been royally upset. We were not good at staying within budget. Granted *most* of it was necessary, but some of it wasn't, and some of it that was could have been put off until we did have the money.

*sigh* I havn't even fixed the mess yet. I just started trying to update it to get the month ready to close off at the end of this week and realized it was not pretty.

I should go back and just tackle it. I just feel so very disappointed in myself right now.

Okay, I committed yesterday and then spent $3.98 on ice cream. I needed change to pay the babysitter (she came so I could go to work) but I could have done better!
Today is a new day.
5/24: Didn't spend a penny!
5/25: $1.06 on an iced tea.

I "fixed" my budget and rebalanced it. I really want to get through the rest of May with no spends unless they are paying the few end of month bills or else medical expenses.

That's only six days. The last three are going to be the hardest. We can do this though.

Only thing I'm not over budget on at this point in the month is groceries...

Working on spending less, but also working (VERY HARD ) on DH to try to get our problem renters (well, squatters really) out of that house. DH is a generous guy, and the squatter is his best bud, but come on! Two years rent free is a sweet deal, and now these folks need to start paying up, or move the heck out. Being out from under that extra mortgage would save a whoooole lot more than couponing ever will.

-------------------------------------------------------
1- $40 bday gift for DS! $14 book for me.
2- $186 groceries for next 2 weeks, $28 gasoline, $12 kid shoes, $12 yarn for newfound yarn habit, $7 DS bday items
3-
4- $32 food for DS bday party; $2 household item
5-16:
$10 gifts, $32 garden, $62 groceries, $75 gasoline, $17 fabric/ clothing yard sale, $10 kid stuff yard sale, $3 used books, $8 fast food, $2 DD toy, $3 work lunch
16-17 no spend
18- $113 groceries, $26 gasoline
19-
20-
21- $5 forgot to bring my lunch to work.
22-
23- $2 lunch at work
24-
25- Goodwill- $26 clothing for me (first clothing I've bought myself since having DS last year- over budget but money well spent...)
26-
27- $110 groceries, $39 gasoline
28
29
30
31
-------------------------------------------------------
Groceries + household- 473 / 500
Kid items- 24 / 60 (planning to stock up for the next year at yard sales)
Blow money for me - 82 / 40 (includes work lunches)
Gasoline- 168 / 120
- no spend day- 8

Expected expenses:
DS bday + party- 79 / 80
Gardening- 32 / 30

I'm here to get us launched for June but it looks like the site is being a bit wonky right now, so I'll get us launched when things are fixed.

5/14: okay not a no spend day. I bought a gift at kohl's for dd's friend who is having a party tomorrow and a clearance book to bump the total over $10 to use my $10 coupon. Total was $2.37. Not really a budgeted spend, but worth it and it's a good gift too
5/15: $6.50 for a field trip for both kids
5/16: took dd to a play I bought tickets to a few months ago...$5 for parking and $10 for dinner because we were starving and far from home. Here's to a much more successful "no spend" week.

5/22: Ugh $30 or so on home improvement stuff I've put off buying for weeks.
