Big spend day today. DS and DD did a day home trial today. I start work Friday and it's DS' first time there. DD used to be full time before I went on mat leave. Our day home mama also cuts our hair. 2 kids for a half day, my hair and DD's for $70 is actually a screaming deal, too bad I don't have $70 I also spent $50 at the mall. Was supposed to be taking my elderly mom shopping but bought stuff for myself.

Wish me luck on the weekend - tomorrow the AP playgroup is hosting a twonie garage sale and Sunday the preschool is hosting a pre-holiday catalog shopping event. My plan is $10 or less at the garage sale and not going to the catalog shopping event, even though the preschool is 2 blocks away from my house and a number of my friends seem to be attending, judging by Facebook. Meh.

1: $280 Costco
2: $65 Groceries, $30 raincoat for DD
3: $15 HFS - sugar & teething tablets for DS

This was SO me yesterday. I had a serious argument with myself about it. We were out at the children's museum and I had brought snacks but when playing in the kid's restaurant area they had these plastic pizzas...I was like, Mmmm, pizza sounds great! But ultimately, my sensible brain won out! Dp and I are having a planned lunch out on Sunday so if we went for pizza yesterday, that would nix Sunday.

I'm so excited that we are almost to the end of the month and I am still sticking with it!! This is the first time. And the first time that I will have STUCK with my budgets for the month. For instance, I am actually allocating money (whatever is left in the restaurant budget) for the lunch on Sunday and if that means we have to split a meal, so be it. We used to do it all the time when we were poor.

I will come back later today and post my spending for the last couple and today. I am planning on doing a bit of shopping later today.

I missed yesterday because I didn't even come home! I babysat at a friend's house after work, so no spend yesterday. Today on the otherhand.... I went to our local Waldorf yearly rummage sale and spent $45 on a wooden treehouse, some dress-up clothes, 2 t-shirts, and a bento box. I really only went in for a doll house. The treehouse will be put away for either Christmas or DS's birthday, so that was a good score, but the other things were absolutely unnecessary. Of course after I bought the treehouse, I went around to a few other stores to buy supplies to spiff it up. *sigh* Absolutely no more shopping for me for the rest of this month or next.

Spending too much money....

Overspent on groceries today. There was an amazing sale on good, Amish raised chicken and I bought 4 big roasters. They are portioned and stashed in the freezer. Good for future budgets, just not today's.

And we went out for pizza again! I am so wrecked by Friday night. I am in nursing school and dh was gone all this week. So, I was solo-parenting and studying for exams and was just beat last night. All this work and stress is taking its toll on me and Friday night pizza has become a norm for us. I should just accept that this is a part of life for us right now and budget it in.

I balanced the books and we are fine. Really we are and I need to stop beating myself up over a $20 pizza. DH came home with a nice check that will fill in the gaps until payday. And I was able to send an extra $100 to savings. So, all is good....just a bit tight right now.

KEY:

= No spend
= Necessary/budgeted spending
= Unnecessary/-non-budgeted spending

1: Paid phone bill
2: $82.00 in groceries!!!!! (I didn't think I was capable! ) and $8.58 for budgeted lunch out with family. $20.00 used jammies for DD, shoes for kids.
3: $15.00 on a rocking horse. Trouble with garage sales is that you can still do unnecessary spending and justify it because it's cheap. .

Took out $200.00 cash for an upcoming road trip. I'll try to track stuff while I'm gone!
4: $25.00 gas, $3.00 "obligatory" purchases to justify using gas station bathrooms.
5: Although to be fair, my spendthrift MIL insists on buying us EVERYTHING!!
6: Spoiled by my parents
7: Lattes out.
8: Day at zoo, but we budgeted for it in our vacation expenses.
9: Dinner out.
10: Unnecessary--Dinner at Mexican restaurant. Necessary--$90.00 night in hotel. I MISS traveling abroad, where there's affordable lodging!
11: Unnecessary--We bought sandwiches, lattes at a gas station, and ordered pizza when we got home from our trip. Our cupboards are BARE right now. Necessary--$38.00 in gas.
12: BACK HOME and BACK TO THE NO-SPEND GRINDSTONE!! $112.00 in groceries. Paid utility and repair bills.
13: $25.00 yarn for Christmas gift that I'm knitting. $5.00 admission to bouncy castle place.
14: But still an expensive day. $1500 to finish off closing costs for our refi and $250 for a home energy audit (I hope and PRAY this was worth it!!)
15: Minor upset in the No-Spend Challenge--frozen yogurt for $3.59. But it's PAY DAY!!!
16: Haven't had a "" day for awhile!! $33.00 gas, $8.50 for budgeted weekly lunch out, $25.00 in dog food.
17: $97.00 in groceries. I ROOOOOCK!!!
18: Ran errands, forgot to pack snacks, and paid for that mistake with a hungry tummy. Set me back $3.20.
19:
20: $10.00 tip for otherwise free (gift cert) spa service
21: $11.00 more yarn for Christmas gifts
22: $4.50 in produce (budgeted), $3.50 at TCBY (non-budgeted). Seriously, I've GOT to get better at packing snacks for running errands!
23: Budgeted lunch out $8.50
24: T minus 6 days until payday.
25: $10.00 tip for (gift certificate) facial (budgeted), $2.00 garage sale Christmas gift to store away for DS (budgeted), $2.50 for used hardback book that I don't need (non-budgeted...obviously).
26: $50.00 in CO2 detector and winterization supplies from hardware store

Dh laughs that we buy chickens who live better than most of the people in our town. I think that might be true.

Freezer is full of meatballs and perogies, but fridge is looking kinda lean. Could possibly make it to the end w/o groc shopping again but family would probably rebel against austerity measures.

I made granola tonight because DH does not function without cereal . I'm also probably going to be making bread and am washing dishes by hand so we don't need to buy dishwasher detergent before the end of the month. I have spent 2hrs tonight cooking, dishwashing, and flyer scanning...had I not bought clothes this month that time could have been mine. Are these the actions of a rational person?? I showed DH the sweater and belt I bought Friday and he agrees it's fabulous.

Tomorrow night I get the best night out...a FREE one! My friend J's DH is program director at a film festival and guess who's going to a sold-out show on a comp ticket
