we're thinking of getting rid of our home phone and just using our cells, but i was shocked to find out that it's the same price for just internet as it is for internet and phone. they give more of a discount the more services you get, i guess. really irritating when you're trying to save money. seems like a lot of people these days are getting rid of their home phones and i'm surprised the internet companies aren't moving in that direction too.

30 for cable internet at the fastest speed, but in 6 months it will jump up to 50 I believe. Lucky for us my DHs work reimburses that expense.

We were paying $60 for high speed internet, but recently switched to a different provider and pay $40 (it will go up after 6 mos., but I imagine we'll switch or add a service). No home phone or cable, so we don't get the bundling discount.

We have a slow cable internet service and pay 50 a month. Theres only two services over here and they charge the same, this one is just a tad more reliable (which is bad to say since its been down 9 days out of the past month for "maintenance" and it is common for it to be down that much)

$50, but they basically have an monopoly in our subdivision. We have 1 cable company with an exclusive contract with our village. No dsl service, and wireless is questionable due to the lay of the land. You look at Clear's map for example, and while everything around us has dark green/full service, our subdivision itself is white/no service.

$19.95 plus tax so $23ish per month for AT&T highspeed DSL, not the fastest plan they offer but perfect for my needs. I can still download movies, iTunes, everything I need without any noticeable lag.

39.95 for fiber optic.

I did have to pay a huge install fee and get a long term contract, because we are very rural and they had to run it to our house special.

I think around $50. It had been $29 for the first six months, but it just went up. That's for regular Time Warner cable.

We pay 60$ for Att, it's like the third or fourth fastest they have available. We don't have cable or anything so it's how we justify it.

$69.99 for FiOs. I like my internet zooming fast.

We justified the cost by ditching the landline and getting a Magic Jack instead.

$60.14

That's for the Verizone 3G. Our only other choices are dial up or satellite. Satellite was $50/month and we constantly lost the signal. The Verizon is reliable, but we're limited in how much we can transfer. We can't watch videos without going over and it's very expensive to go over.

We have verizon FiOs for 44.95 a month- we use Ooma for phone service, no land line.

We recently moved- before, we were renting a house about 2 miles away. There, we had verizon DSL for 34.95 a month. Because the previous owners of this house had FiOs, they wouldn't let us "downgrade!" to DSL...so we had to get the FiOs.

Those who are saying wifi, do you mean a data stick/card from a cell provider, or for something else... I am confused...

About $75 for cable internet. I believe it's the second best package they offer. DH works from home so he is on the internet all day. We can write it off on our taxes at the end of the year. It also allows us to get 8 tv stations which we don't get otherwise. Even basic cable around here is a rip off and I won't pay for it.

There are a couple of different options which get grouped under wifi for internet access.

First is kind of a dish-based system. If you have DirectTv or Dish Network in your area and they offer a tv/Internet package, that's typically what you're getting. Many areas also have smaller companies which offer Internet-only in this manner. They are generally based on some technology like Canopy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_Canopy

There is also 3G/4G Internet access. That is what you'd typically regard as cellular access. Clear is probably the best-known home provider:

We pay $60/mo, ugh! That's just for cable internet, if we got a package of some kind the internet portion would be only $45/mo... we were paying less for years with various promotions but I couldn't get one recently.

About six years ago we were paying $5.95 for dial up with some sort of speed boost, but I can't imagine going back to that, we are so spoiled now.... got used to it when dh started working from home and had to send and receive large files constantly.

I keep looking into other options, which always sound cheaper, but nothing ever seems to be available in our area... at least not in the bandwidth we've become accustomed to with online game playing and movie streaming.

Okay... I was unaware of the dish option... And the 3g/4g is not what I think of when I think of "wifi". I was just thinking of how I have my wifi set up in my house and how the price does not matter if I have that set up or not

Ah. Yeah, I generally call what you do internally to your house "wireless" while what is an external wireless connection coming into your house is "wifi". You can run a wifi connection into a wireless router.
