I was thrilled to see our gas bill this month- 2.06 therms per day, and 57.57 therms for the month.  We live in an 1100sq foot apartment (though I'm guesstimating and trying to remember what the listing said!).  We keep our heat at 55 at night and 58 during the day.  We have natural gas fired hot water boiler that provides us with hot water baseboard heat.  I suspect that most of our energy is being used up by cooking and by showering.  I've also been using the dishwasher, which I need to cut out.  I've cut back on it a lot though.

Our bill was $71.26 :)

How many therms do you use per day?  How much is your bill? Anyone lower?  What are things like at your home?  We're at about as low as we can go for heat, but as far as cooking, showering, etc... I'm sure we could par down some more.

Our gas company use gigajoules.  How does that convert?

*OK I just found a converter and it's 71 therms in the last month.  According to their chart this year is colder than usual.  Our thermostat is set to 65 F.   The bill for November was about $89 I think.  It can go up to $130 or so in Jan or Feb.  Though it might not be as much this year as gas is cheaper now.

Too many, apparently. I paid $490 earlier today for our power bill. That doesn't even include gas, which is what our heat, fireplace, and stove run on.

I'd have to look online at our usage to break it down.

86 therms, $129. We live in a small 3 bed two bath house, maybe 1000-1500 sq.ft. I'm not sure how we ran such a high bill. It's awful!

I'm gonna do a few changes to lower my bill:

  • get used to a colder ambient temperature
  • buy extra sweat pants
  • add a blanket to my bed
  • get a indoor thermometer and a heating blanket for using on the couch
  • get some insulation panels for the living room and master bedroom windows
  • cover some other windows with plastic
  • sew some door snakes
  • bake in the morning (as a bonus, the house will smell delicious, and we'll same money on bread and breakfast cereal!)
