Last June, I had a fertility test done (of my fallopian tubes - a dumb choice since there was no reason to think anything was wrong with them), based on my insurance company seemingly having told the doctor's office staff that they would cover it. The insurance company had told me they wouldn't, but someone from the staff (a receptionist, I guess) called and then reported to me that they would "most likely" cover it, and if they didn't, the doctor would not bill me. The hospital still might for their end of it, but the doctor would not. I agreed to have the test, wrote down the receptionist(?)'s name and what she told me, and then months went by. More than six months later, the hospital billed me. Having been told this would happen, though very unhappy, I tried to have some of this forgiven, and failed. I went on a payment plan instead. The last thing I expected was a bill from the doctor's office, but I got one two days ago. That's eight months after the procedure; I am now nearly six months pregnant, not thanks to that test, but thanks to Clomid. I haven't seen this doctor since the middle of my first trimester, and I no longer have the name of the receptionist(?) who promised me I wouldn't be billed. I tend to write things on scraps of paper, keep them in a "safe" place for a little while, and then forget to file them. It's one of my biggest flaws.
I am not sure how to proceed. The bill is for about $250, significantly less than the hospital bill, but we are trying to save right now, not just hand money to people who said they would not be charging us anything. Did I mess up beyond repair by not keeping note of the name of the person I talked to? Should I try calling and saying, "Someone said I wouldn't be billed."?
I would call, find out the details of the bill. The dates of service, procedures billed for etc. However just because the receptionist says you 'wont be billed' means nothing. EVERYTHING goes to billing, most times an off site company that direct bills insurance then sends the balance to you!
I would def. call, if nothing else find out why its taken so long to 'bill' you.
