This idea to save money was given to me by a friend so i have no idea where it came from but thought I'd share. What you do is each week of the year you set aside the money for what week it is.. ie week 1 -$1, week 2-$2, etc. All the way to $52 the last week. At the end of the year this amounts to $1378!!!

She and i have both decided to try it this year as an easy way to beef up our ef. We are doing it in reverse though so we save faster and are putting less in each week at holiday time. I'm excited about this challenge and waiting on payday to put in my second week's savings!

Yeah, I love this idea and am doing it.  I'm thinking of keeping my stash hidden, and surprising the Mr. at the end of the year.  Like, Merry Christmas baby, I've got just over $1000 in the mattress!

I like the idea of doing it in reverse!

We got a couple gift cards for a big box store this year and I'm buying a waterproof/fireproof safe instead of the mattress lol

I think I'm going to try to do this, haven't decided about reverse or just normal but I'm also going to work on saving the EF as well ;)

1. "In reverse" would be so much easier on our budget.

2.  We already have a fire safe.  Naturally, I forgot all about it (I just dusted it!), and went with the mattress instead.

I'm a natural blonde.  I'm leaving it there and walking away.

I am so confused right now! I can't tell if the headslap is for me or yourself wink1.gif I didn't mean anything if it was towards me! Promise!

Besides the money under the mattress could make one a wee bit more frisky wink1.gif

Lol very best isn't it? I have my friend and myself doing it in reverse. My cousin joined in as well but is doing it on the low start end. I couldn't believe how much it had you save at the end of the year so i was excited

I'm thinking of doing this! I'd have to do it every 2 weeks as that's when hubby gets paid.. and we'd probably do it in order(just works best for us)

Since I decided to use the fire safe, I had to tell husband about it.  He wasn't impressed.  Now I"m going to do it just to spite him.  Even better, I told him this will save us enough money to fly my mother out here.  Teach him to not be excited about my schemes.

I have a feeling my DH wouldn't get too excited about this idea either. He's too no-nonsense. But, it sounds like a fun and motivating way to save money to me!

I was telling my teenager about this.  She is 15 & saving for a car.  She babysits and cleans her grandparents house.  I hope that she will at least try it!  I told her she should print out the chart and cross off the amount that she puts into the kitty for the week.  She doesn't have to follow it in order as long as she keeps track.  This way the weeks that she makes more she can take care of without worry that she won't have the money 52 weeks from now.  If your income is unpredictable this could work for you.  I'm also thinking that I'm going to do 2 of these, one I will follow from week 1, the other I will work backwards from week 52.  So week 1 I'm saving $53 & so on.

I would threaten him with his own mother, he would be much, much more annoyed to have her around, but he knows as well as I do that she's in no danger of leaving her house and doing something anytime soon.

I have the money the start backwards this week!!  I'm excited.  I might be a real jerk and take a picture of his face on week one, when he's deprived of $52 and thinks his wife is nuts, and week 52, when he has over a grand in fun money.

(His face will be completely the same.  But it will still be fun.)

Haha! DH's mother would definitely drive him more nuts. He thinks my mom is a hoot as long as she's not putting me down wink1.gif

Although I can't use that as a threat anymore. His mom just called yesterday to wish him a happy birthday and then ask/mention that she's strongly thinking of moving here. We just move almost 900miles away, we like the separation. She isn't a good driver and refuses to drive in the little bit of snow they do get each year. We get 8 solid months of snow and we're a two day drive from "home"...

I now need to save the money to get away from here!!!!!! And I love it here greensad.gif

OH NO!  Run!  Hide!  Run!!!

I can totally relate.  I live a solid 24 hour drive from my people, and in a part of the nation they aren't quite sure actually exists, and within 4 months of buying our home I had blood kin bunking in.   They are gone now, but even my poor husband was like:  "Two days isn't far enough, huh?" and no, it isn't.

Ha! Yeah it's hard to get away from family. I haven't really thought about doing two. I did consider running it backwards until half way then working back up so i end up with just over $2000. Idk right now i have my $103 in an envelope so we'll see.

Won't that just be saving $53 every week the entire year? (the 2nd week you'd be saving $2 & $51, the third $3 & $50 and so on).  If so, you'll have $2756: nice!

How is everyone doing with this?  I choose to just do a cash envelope & I didn't end up doubling it.  I have other accounts that I'm contributing more to and we are working on retirement accounts also.  I'm on track to have an envelope stuffed with $1378 by next Jan!  Now what to use it for is the question?  Have you all stuck to this?
