*Sigh*  We've pretty much decided that next summer's family reunion is going to be out of our reach, both in time and money.  We've missed the last 3 for the same reason.  Oh, well.

Back from our week of vacation fun.  Dh and I committed ourselves to staying close to home this summer which has been fun and good for the pocket book.  We budgeted $300 for a 6 day vacation of local fun and camping.  We came in $10 under budget and we did a ton of stuff and got to know our new hometown a bit better.

So, now we are settled back into normal life and ready to cinch up the proverbial belt.  We will need to buy some food, but for today and tomorrow, I am clearing out the fridge and freezer of all the odd bits and ends.

For the next week, I am focused on eating at home, cleaning up my diet (good grief, I ate a lot of hot dogs and smores) and keeping out of stores.   I have grocery money and one more tank of gas in the budget, so we should be good til August as long as I don't go crazy buying crap I don't need.

Of course, I blew today's thumb.gif by stepping into a store.  I wanted to get a small notebook, but also bought some art materials for the kids.   I should know better than to ever go into a store with my kids.   I totally deserve one of those flaming guys.  redface.gif

July 1 -- thumb.gif

July 2 -- $27 camping fees

July 3 -- thumb.gif

Vacation...

July 4 -- $40 family day, plus baseball game $36

July 5 -- $65 dinner out

July 6 -- thumb.gif

July 7 -- $55 movies

July 8 -- $11 wood for camp out, plus more $ for snacks and camping food

July 9 -- $35 lunch

Back to real life...

July 10 -- $18 for totally useless, but fun art supplies

I'm pretty much counting any cash that I spend out of my wallet as budgeted.  My miscellaneous pocket is not doing so hot right now...only $19 left there, so I really need to make that stretch.  We leave on vacation on 7/29, so my budget pretty much goes until then and I have a separate budget for vacation.  I think I'm in decent shape for now.  Gotta try to rack up way more no spend days until vacation.

No-spend day today.  Took the kids for a hike and a picnic and we have a potluck for dinner tonight.  Tomorrow should be more easy, summer fun...library and maybe a trip to the pool.  Love these lazy, quiet days.

FIREdevil.gif  Yeah, well it's not really all that fun coming on here when you've been spending money...

But starting today...the wallet stays IN the purse.  I'm forgetting about past indiscretions and plowing forward.

I agree!!!!  I find it easier to not spend in the summer (last post excepted) because there is so much fun free stuff to do in nature.  I'm not internet-shopping quite as much.

Sweet Silver -  I hate car repairs.  HATE them.  Because you spend a bunch of money, and in return you get the same exact car you brought in to them.  At least they should put a little bow on it or something.  I hope yours wasn't too painful yesterday.

Thankfully I have it scheduled for Tuesday.  Not that it makes any difference in price, I'm just getting carpal tunnel from whipping out my credit card.  I need a break!

Well, I did end up spending a little yesterday.  Stopped at the thrift store on my way home from work and found a good supply of cotton sheets I was needing.  Quite a bit of yellow, but otherwise mismatched as usual.  One of these years, I will be able to afford matching sheets.  Why does this bug me?  I shouldn't be so irritated by this.  I guess it's more symbolic than anything.

Tallied up my expenses form the weekend.  It wasn't that bad really.  We bought books and a $30 waffle iron so we can have gluten free waffles for my son.  The lunch was not needed, just poor planning.   I knew I should have packed a lunch, but I was crazy tired and it was so easy to stop for a meal.  It needs to be harder to spend money...maybe my debit card could be outfitted with a mild taser gun?

Awww well...moving on.

We have a quiet week planned.  Swimming and the library and a couple of hikes and maybe a playdate.   We have grocery money, gas money, the bills are paid and we are all healthy and well.   And we can have waffles for lunch!

I know! Goodness sheets can be expensive.  And I like nice sheets, not those scratchy, cheap ones.

Towels are my thing right now.   Our towels are foul -- torn, ragged, unraveling, u.g.l.y.  And every time I go to look at towels, I am shocked by what they cost.  So, we live on with our ragged ones.

And it bugs me, too.   But not enough to drop a ton of cash on sheets and towels.

And we use the ragged ones because they are still perfectly useful for the job they do.  But still, better towels are on my short list.  I did buy some cheap kitchen towels because I couldn't stand it anymore.  I know, I could have waited longer-- employed some bleach or other chemical weaponry to make them passable, but finally enough was enough and I found some nice, cheap (new) ones on sale.

The thrift store had some cloth napkins as well that I passed up because my birthday is coming up and I dream about having some new cloth ones to use that actually match the house.  20 years ago, I would never have cared--only that they were nice and cotton and 2nd hand.  What is happening to me????

1-3 thumb.gif Made good spending choices-- including not spending!

thumb.gif No spending today

thumb.gif Bought a handful of groceries...

6-7 thumb.gif

dizzy.gif Bleeding money.  Much of it necessary spending, but Geez Louise...... more tomorrow, too, and the next day and the next.....

dizzy.gif And still it goes.... all planned but painful.  The only really terrible thing is that I ended up not doing an errand today that is going to make tomorrow errand day as well-- totally unnecessary waste of time and gas.

10 dizzy.gif Today was less necessary,  Uff da!  One more day left for big spending.

11 thumb.gif Respite. Groceries.

12 thumb.gif  Car repair rescheduled...... phew!  I needed a longer spending break!

13 thumb.gif Just groceries

14 thumb.gif Gettin' myself coffee, but that's it...... yeah right, so I thought..... but not too bad......

15 praying.gif Oh thank you for the no spend today!

Should I be happy that my mom's old sewing machine is unrepairable?  That saves me $130 in the short run, but costs me a whole lot in the long run.  I want a sewing machine... I am not a seamstress, and I'm not planning to use it a whole lot, so I want the machine I grew up with that only costs me the price of a repair, dammit!  *Sigh*.

unbudgeted spending days = 2 Sheepish.gifSheepish.gif

I also found out yesterday that my old apartment got rented (yeah, I had paid double rent for part of July), so I'm going to be getting a check back that will pretty much cover my vacation I'm taking at the end of the month--woohoo!! :)

Key:  biggrinbounce.gif = no spend, thumb.gif = budgeted spending, Sheepish.gif = unbudgeted spending

July 16th - unbudgeted spending Sheepish.gif $44 shorts for me, $2 ice cream, $1 parking meter

no spend days = 7 biggrinbounce.gifbiggrinbounce.gifbiggrinbounce.gifbiggrinbounce.gifbiggrinbounce.gifbiggrinbounce.gifbiggrinbounce.gif

budgeted spending days = 6 thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif

unbudgeted spending days = 3 Sheepish.gifSheepish.gifSheepish.gif

Well I'm just on a roll of unbudgeted spending.  The shorts I bought yesterday I've been eyeing up for months, so I think it will be worth it (just should have waited to buy them ;)).  My budget is just really screwy right now.  I blame it on that ;)  But really, once everything has evened out at the end of next month and I can see what my new pay will be and make sure I've got all my bills timed correctly, I'm going to put any leftover money toward my student loan.  I'm going to try to make today, tomorrow, and Friday no spend days.  I know that we're going thrift shopping on Saturday, but I'm hoping that I sell a couple things on craigslist before then, so anything we buy can come out of that.
