The first week of Agust has been great for me so far! I've really only spent about $5 that didn't need to be spent. ("fines" to my friend and a drink)

I didn't give myself a budget like some of you b/c I'm so much in debt that I really want this month to be a true NO spend month. I'm really only allowed to by food, cat food and cat litter and bus tickets or passes. If my debt gets to a certain amount by the end of the month I'll join again in September and have a small allownace for Tim Hortons Iced Caps!

Today I spent nothing and earned $65!!!
(paid Thursday with anything else earned this week)

A friend has just offered me $50 to housesit for her next week too!!

so i am working on a system using color coding to help me track all our spending this month, not just unnecessaries. using the numbers from this month, i figure will be a good jumping off point to throw a "budget" together.

aug 1
aug 2
aug 3- 904.84 paycheck gotta love overtime 220 lot rent, 230 payback last loan for payday check cash advance. 237 partial car insurance payment, 43.66 for groceries and school supplies. 4.00 for a rx for dh's headaches.
aug 4
aug 5. 28.52 unplanned spedning 10.00 regular expense.
aug 6: dh got pt paycheck(64 and change), AND i got 50 dollars for my bday 164.87 paid to sce&g.

aug 7; dh spent 28.93 at bi-lo to get some powerade and items for his lunch&dinner today/tonight. he could have spent less than that going out to eat!!! my dh does not do bargain shopping well at all

regular expense
variable expense
unplanned expense

amount left until next paypay or next expense- 62.97

l, <>< wife to my sweetie, proud mama to 3 cubs, 2 who clw & 1 that i i ep for . baby was evicted early by induction due to severe pre-e/hellp syndrome

Shockingly enough...I'm doing really well this month! after a shaky start, I got on the no spend bandwagon! I'm only tracking non budgeted expenses--all bills are already accounted for. I do have a grocery budget, but I need to tweak it, it's gone up a LOT since DS was born--partially because we are eating a lot more at home than we used to (which is good) and partially because groceries have gone up a good chunk (which is bad).

August 1: Shirt for DD, $3.18.
2: Starbucks, $3
3: Snow cones, $4
4: --$12 at Meijer, but it was groceries...I'm counting that as a no spend, I didn't buy anything else while shopping with mom!
5:
6: I had to bring a snack for our get together with friends, and we made cookies! Yes it's 98 degrees, so running the oven sucked, but darn it I didn't have to buy a snack (of course, the oven may make the electric bill more than the snack...: )
7: thumb

Mom to Liz (14) and Dillon (3) and Mitchell FINALLY born 7/11/10!

Whoops...progress not perfection, right? Knew the McD today would probably happen; thought about going/not going throughout two am meetings, then stopped on the way home.

Progress on Goals:
* Less than $200 in frivolous spending - August to date: $4.30
* At least 20 days - 6/31
* NO McDonald's - 6/31
* Pack snacks + water for outings - 7/31

Forgive me for asking, but I really have no idea... Is $22 a lot for a diaper?
It is for ~me~ ! I think that is the most I've ever spent on one individual diaper...this one is embroidered.

But most of the pocket diapers retail for $18-25 each, so it is a pretty standard price.

They range from $1.50 for a prefold all the way up to $200 for the wool/embroidered/fancy diapers. But most cost in the $15 to $20 range.

Might as well check in for today

Aug 1
Aug 2
Aug 3
Aug 4

Aug 7

I'm having pangs of envy over BIL and SIL tonight. He's in university (one more year left), she's a SAHM, they have 2 kids, very little income in a high COL city and they are always going places, on vacations, just bought a thousand dollar camera, all latest electronics, ect... It's so hard seeing people who *should* be in a tighter finanical situation than us spending money like water. It's so hard but I keep telling myself they are racking up debt to do it and will be paying for years and years to come since they both went to university. We have managed never to owe a penny of debt to anyone. But I want some fun!!!!! AAAHHHHHH!!!!!! Right now it's hard to afford the gas to drive an hour to the next town, lso I'm going to appreciate our 3 days away, even if it is only 1.5-2 hours away.

August 1: ! Only spent on gas and groceries.
August 2: ! Didn't even go to the farmer'e market like I'd planned
August 3: $20 at garage sales today. All okay spending except for 50 cents for a Sprite . Also $57 on Shaklee stuff last night. DH and I need some supplements, we are both dragging horribly.
August 4: $31 at coop, $21 was on chicken, other $10 wasn't necessary (well, I may be able to claim the mothering mag was necessary here )
August 5: !
August 6: !
August 7: kinda . I spent $21 at a local coffee/bagel/sandwich place for me and DH, but had a g.c for $15 and used my cash for the balance. I really NEEDED the turkey bacon swiss sandwich and really wanted a mocha : . Spent $25 on a g.c for my dad at a restaurant for his bday -- budgeted.

Beachlivin, I hope your Dh is doing okay now, what a scary thing to have happen!

Well.. I have to say that this thread is overwhelming and I definitely do not have time to read all the posts every day. I'm not even sure if anyone even responds to my posts because I don't have time to sift thru them...

So here's a summary of the last few days. I don't really have days where I don't spend anything... don't know why, but I just always end up having to spend something. Maybe because I make more frequent, smaller trips... maybe not the best way to do it but its all DD can handle. She's starting to be more like a toddler now in her mannerisms than a baby. Anyway, we did end up going to the supermarket once... darn. I wanted stuff to make sushi, which is expensive, but ohhh so yummy! We rented a movie, spent some more money on gas and I took a trip to value villlage where I spent 53$... got some craft books and clothes for DD. Other than that, I've bought two parenting magazines (mothering and parenting today) and some air freshener. We went to the market today and got a bunch of peppers for very cheap which I'm going to chop up and freeze. So thats that. I'm going to have to buy birth control tomorrow.

BeachlivnMom -- on DH's surgery. I hope he recovers quickly. I'm thinking of you. I'm glad you have been trying to save these past two months because that will help you if he is out of work for six weeks.

Quote:
We have managed never to owe a penny of debt to anyone
Carla -- You should be SO proud of that. My DH and I are up to our ears in debt and we pay for it every. single. day. I tallied up our indebtedness the other day and (including mortgage) we are over $250K in debt. How is that for sobering? We pay (including mortgage) over $1300 in ~interest alone~ every single month. So don't envy your relatives -- pity them. They just haven't seen the light yet, and when they do...oh, it is not pretty.

I really admire you for not being in debt.

Granola Mom -- Our thread DOES get extremely long. You can come and read every single post, or just skim over them and update your own tallies. Either way of checking is fine! Use this thread how it best benefits YOU.

Some days I read everyone's posts (because reading of how others are trying to be frugal motivates me) and other days I don't have time and just update my own. It's all good.

The Trading Post here is a GREAT way to build a stash of cloth--I've been participating in trades for more than a year and we have almost everything we'll need, should tadpoles actually appear in our lives. And, if not, I'll sell them all to Crunchy*VT*Mom. :

August 1: $7.50 for lunch/dinner combo
August 2: $1.86 for drinks out with a friend
August 3: (with bonus leftovers from Village dinner)
August 4: ~$30 Farmer's Market and breakfast

OK, Im going to begin keeping track...and be totally honest. And this is only for me..I would need to tie my dh down to make him not spend. Here goes:

August 4: $55 on ebay for shoes for dd (ok, not necessary since she has like 10 pairs of shoes already)
August 5: $50 hospital co-pay for me, $5 for iced tea at 7-11
August 6: flowers for DHs best friend that died
August 7: Dalai Lama tickets: $50 for 2 (planned on buying for 2 months)
August 8: $80 brazilian wax for cruise next week

See, all of these things I look at as necessities. Really. Obviously, the flowers and hospital co-pay (we have had a rough few days, dh's bf died and I got food poisoning...but it did keep me out of stores)

Spent absolutely nothing yesterday. That almost never happens On the downside our hydro bill came and it was $382.00 : That is for 2 months and it has been exceptionally hot here with no rain for weeks, so I expected to be big, but it was bigger than it has ever been in the 7 years we have lived here. I budgeted $300 so when I pay it I will list the difference as out of budget spending. Turned the air conditioner down by 2 degrees this morning.

August 7th $10.00 over the budgeted $25.00 for a winter coat for dd on ebay. Over the years I have always bought neutral colors which will work great because now my ds can wear the ones that my dd has outgrown. I shouldn't have gone $10.00 over though.

Having a Dinner party tonight with 6 out of town guests. I put toys away last night but that is about as good as its going to get as far as cleaning. We are just too busy.

Blech! It is going to be 100 degrees here today with humidity. Seriously, this heat wave is rotten. We have great free parks, a beach, lots of places to walk to, but it is so hot that we melt when we go outside. My ds is a fair skinned redhead and he breaks out in terrible heat rash if we spend too much time outside. : I think August is my least favorite month.

At least I won't spend any money -- no one wants to go anywhere!

Well, I havent had any no spend days but we have been travelling. I am so proud of us! We had to get a hotel and eat dinner out...our dinner for 5 was only $32 including tip at a decent restaraunt. Then $8 for ice cream. At the airport the next day I only spent $15 for dinner for 4. We had a 3 hour layover so it could have been much worse, thankfully Atlanta is pretty limited in choices.....I highly reccomend the Atlanta Bread Company for affordable and splittable sandwiches. All other money was only for water and a coffee, about $15 more. Not too bad for a day out travelling with the kids.

August 8-

Went to the internet company and paid $44.95 for monthly bill. They also started automatic payments, so signed up for that. Sold something on TP, so paid $4.60 for shipping and dropped that and some textbooks (sold to Barnes and Noble) off at the post office. Then, I stopped by AT&T and paid $27.36 to reconnect my Go-Phone that I use for work during the school year. So we had some expenses (all planned, nothing frivilous) today, but I didn't stop by a single place on my way home, even though I really wanted to!
