Woot! I MADE money yesterday! I never do that! I was decluttering and decided to try to hit Half Price Books and Once Upon a Child and see if I could sell them anything. HPB gave me $12 for my box of books, and OUAC gave me $15 for some of DS's old stuff. OUAC pretty much robbed me, but I decided I didn't care-I was originally going to Goodwill it all anyway. I spent all the OUAC money on an outfit for DD, which she desperately needs. But I'm $12 ahead for the day!

Mom to Liz (14) and Dillon (3) and Mitchell FINALLY born 7/11/10!

This definitely sounds like something I need to be in on!

1. Please introduce yourself and tell us anything you think it would help us to know about yourself.

My name is Sue and I am a SAHM and Homeschooler to my 2 kiddos. Both my dh and I spend money on things we really don't need and sometimes put off paying bills in order to do this. Especially when it comes to eating out. For the past year or so, we've been trying to be disciplined about this and we are doing okay -- there's definitely room for improvement!

2. Please tell us why you have decided to spend nothing (or spend significantly less) for the Month of August. Memorize these goals and recite them to yourself before all purchases.

We would like to have leftover money at the end of the month so that when it comes to buying the kiddos clothing/shoes or something, it's easier. We also want to start saving so when an emergency arises, we can pay for it ourselves without having to depend on our family, etc. We need to start building our credit back up, also.

3. No spending is hard work. You need a plan. Please tell us your game plan -- how do you plan to approach no spending for a month?

Being accountable to the entire MDC board is definitely a motivation!

Stick to our weekly menu.
No eating out except for what we explicitly put in our budget.
Stop going out to buy ice cream -- my HUGE weakness.

We've cut back a lot when it comes to other things, so this is all I can think of for now.

[August 1 --

August 3 -- (10.31 for groceries)
August 4 --
August 5 -- ($28.65 for groceries) ($55 printer cartridge : )
August 6 --
August 7 -- ($10 for second hand clothes and books)
August 8 --

We have some grocery shopping tonight and tomorrow, but it is all budgetted. I am hoping to get through the weekend with no spending. DH leaves on Sunday for 3 weeks of field work and my no-spend challenege will be a whole lot easier. He will be on a ship without access to anything (no spending!) and I will be able to completely control the checkbook (insert maniacal laughter here ).

Everyone is doing so well!

I am serial posting today.

When this month is over and I have sent a whopper of a cheque to the home equity loan (aka, the noose around my neck), I am going to treat myself to some new yarn and knit this little guy.

Does anyone else have plans for something fun?

I don't know if it's "fun" but it's EXCITING! With the money we have left over at the end of every two weeks we are splitting it. Half goes to the credit card that we are actively trying to pay off and half will go to savings.

I would love for it to all go to the credit card payment but we had to use our emergency savings and feel that we need at least $1000 in there!

Nope, Sadly round two of IVF was a bust. , All the more reason to save $$ since I'm going to need to spend another few hundred on meds/swimmers after taking a month off to get my body back in order.

hi, my name is Sheila and I am a SAHM to 3 kids, aged 19 months, (almost) 6 years old, and a 12 year old. I, like Prudence, have a mortgage that is about 50% of the take home pay. We just moved in April and this is really a hard adjustment...

We also were switched by my hubbys work to a kind of insurance they call a 30/70 plan - we pay a co pay ($30 for Dr visits and $25 for Rxs) and then 30% of the bill on top of that, we get billed and it stinks! this is killing us... right now we have aoubt $500 worth of to be paid medical bills... I have vowed no visits except to the PCP but this is hard, Dh and Ds used to go for allergy shots- both have really bad allergies, can't afford this any more... We are trying homelopathic stuff... we are trying to eat healthy and local but find that challenging... we do not qualift for the state insurance any more, we used to get it, but not now.

My game plan for no spending is park both my check book and the debit card at home. The debit card comes straight out of checking, but it is way to convenient.... so I am a little scared by this, I keep thinking "what if I NEED to buy something"????? That is my biggest fear... have any of you been there/overcome that?

Sill question but can anyone tell me how to subscribe to this thread????

Right now we are deeply in the red in the checking acct.and I have way more bills here than I can figure out how to pay even with the 5 pay period month...

I have a few things I am trying to come up with solutions for... my sons friend is coming home after a whole summer away and my son has missed him so! My son wanted to make a Welcome Home sign and buy him baloons... right now I am trying to tell my son yes to the sign but no to th baloons but he is feeling really disspointed.... my older son had a long list of materials he is suppose to get for school, I will search thru all that we have here and hope to find most of it but I think I may have to make some purchases for him... my parents are coming to dinner tonight and I hope they ask if we need nay back to school stuff, if so then I will ask if they would get the things on the list for him.

I don't know HOW I am gonna do this, only that I need to do it...

Ladies,I'm to have to spend tonight. Now I don't really need to spend. I should really just make myself some dinner, but I'm pretty hungry and don't feel like rummaging for something to cook. I should have got groceries I know.

So I've just ordered some food,about $15!!

This is the first day that I had a "slip up" so it's ok. Also I've been eating at work the last 3 days so it kinda makes it better

Today has been incredibly stressful and awful and frustrating and I stopped for fast food. I don't feel too horrible about it though because I have been doing really, really well so far.

I went to the mall the other day and bought Luke's birthday present like I had budgetted for. Nothing else, not even a coffee!

Goals:
No box stores 9/31
No disp. diapers: 9/31
No unplanned spending: 6/21 (allowing 10 days with unplanned or frivolous spending but trying to keep the total amounts really low. Sometimes one really wants a slurpee)
