Oct. 1: $36 gas (necessary!)
Oct. 2: nada, baby!

I'll have to go to the grocery store tomorrow, but at least the list is small.

Plus, we are going to do Angel Food again starting this month. The food is kinda bad for you, but it's cheap. And if the choice is bad food or not eating, I'll take bad food any day!

I usually prioritized the cc payments. So if I didn't have enough to cover everything, I would pay the minimums but then I would end up charging on the cc again. Over the summer we were really in dire straits an DH couldn't contribute anything. I ended up letting a couple of cc payments slide, but then I managed to make them in subsequent months.

A second day of necessary spending and necessary driving. I know I *could* say today was a success anyway, but I think I really need to be super picky, lest I slide down the slippery slope of Mt. Justification.

I spent money on groceries and we drove to our co-op, our bank and the paper recycling place to drop off our scrap paper. None of these places are within walking distance.

However, we did walk up to the library this afternoon, where I picked up books I had reserved (thus avoiding the $1 per item charge for requesting something but not picking it up on time) and DS played and read books with me.

So...

10/1: $152.06 car repair
10/2: $74.31 groceries

Tomorrow should be a no-spend, no-drive day, though!

Help me, mamas! For the first time, I want to drop out of the challenge... And it's only the 2nd! But it's b/c of that that I don't want to continue. Of course, that doesn't mean I'll be spending, or won't be tracking. I have to keep not spending and keep tracking b/c if I don't, who knows what will happen to us. But since DH has pretty much screwed up this month, I'm discouraged. I wish I could make him PAY! But nothing effects him. And I can't leave the bills to him so he knows how it feels, b/c he won't pay them. SO what do I do?
Anyone have some wine? Beer? Bean dip? Etc?

2/10 actual no-spend days
0/100 in discretionary/preventable spending
0/5 lattes
0/0 unfunded credit card charges
*figure out how to cheaply accomodate late afternoon need to something sweet.... or overcome the need.
*get back to the budget and make it work: have tinkered with it so that it will work for the next month, but it still needs some editing work after that.
I now eat fruit when I want something sweet, and once in a while I spring for the kiwi... Could you try that?

Noooooo! hang in mama! you are always so kind and generous w/ your encouragement for the rest of us...

you can only change you. all of our dh's are going to foil our plans now and again, but you have to stay strong and be the example for your family (i know, it's a lot to shoulder). keep doing what you're doing, remind your dh what/why you're doing and keep up the good (hard) work. you can do it!!!

(sorry - OHT...)

Oh, I'm so dense! I just realized that the second number in, for example, 2/31, is the TARGET I'm shooting for. I just put it as the total number of days in October.

Oh well, I'm gonna keep it the way I've been doing it. It's keeping me honest!

And I just realized that I need to deposit money into my buying club account by tomorrow night if I want to order this month, so I may have to drive AND spend again tomorrow. :

I agree with the posters who have said that you can't be responsible for meeting anyone's goals but your own. You have your own goals about spending and saving... your husband's behavior might keep you from meeting financial goals that you share, but not your own personal goals.

Stay with us! We need your encouragement.... and if you're going to be tracking anyway, you may as well do it here, among those who adore you!

Erhm, maybe I should have specified that my cravings are for sweet things that consist of either chocolate or something with butter and flour. I used to have enough self-control to use fruit as a sweet, but something about being pregnant and drifting into the habit of buying a cookie or M&Ms each afternoon... well, I'm a work in process, what can I say.

He keeps me from meeting my own goals, too. I mean, when he racks up $375 in stuff we hadn't originally planned on paying this month, and I have to pay $367 in tuition regardless, well then I have to sit up and take notice.

BTW, we don't share any financial goals. That, of course, is much of our problem. But he's just not interested in whether we have any savings, etc. He should be, and maybe he would be if I'd let it go and/or start denying him things he actually needs. But it's just easier for me to leave him with his allowance and take care of everything else. Doesn't help with the resentment... But at least I know we won't hit rock bottom as long as I handle the finances.

How about getting a big bag of M&Ms and putting it in the freezer or fridge? Buying in bulk, if you will?

I found that the peanut butter M&Ms were the most satisfying. :

Are you looking for a healthier/cheaper replacement or are you trying to stave off the craving?

Yesterday was a good day spending wise. I had a hard time emotionally as my dp and I were still hashing out stuff. And I'm sure there will be another day or two of that since I handed over my card on Sunday there are still some charges that had to hit the account.

The only spending I did yesterday was 25.76 which was dinner out with all the moms and the teacher of my son's class. We went to PF Chang's (YUM!) and I saved half of my meal for lunch today.

Incidentally, I think I have an aversion to MSG. Hmmm, maybe I will send my leftovers to work with dp.

Thank youa ll SO MUCH for the warm welcome and encouragement. This thread moves quickly so I will do my best to do personals. Reminds me of The One Thread.

How's everybody feeling today? We have had some awesome efforts and successes, no?

The only thing I anticipate spending $$ on today is an oil change for the car.
