I am going to a pajama party next month (yes I am 36 and going to a pj party). My monthly Bunko league decided we would do a December Xmas bunko with everyone buying gifts and doing a dirty Santa in our pajamas. I got cute ones with snowmen on them. I did still put a little extra on the mtg but in the end that's just gonna end up on the CC. OTOH I did most of my xmas shopping, but I still have $100 present I have to get the kids and ds needs a new carseat Hopefully next month is better.

I have a question for you all.

My husband is a private piano teacher. He does in home lessons for a largely very rich client base. He is paided well and really loved by his clients. Twice a year he has a children's recital and once a year he does an adult recital. I always go to the kids/family one with our children, especially the one near the holiday season. It is like his version of the holiday office party.

Last year I was out of town for the holiday one and in the spriong I went but I was hugely pg and feeling a bit awkward with everyone. The holiday one this year in on Sunday. It is a big deal because he usually has it at a place he rents in Brooklyn that is small and more casual. Well one of his clients wanted to host this time. She rented a beautiful grand piano, a 100 chairs, wine and such and a catered spread. She is paying for all of this (her TriBeCa loft is huge so she can host like this).

Alright, here is my issue. I have never bought somehting to wear to one of these things. It is not a super formal event or anything. Dh asked me if I have anything in mind to wear. I know he will be happy with whatever. BUT, I gained a lot of weight when pg, so almost nothing from before my pg fits right now (baby is 6 months) and I have lost 20 pounds (yeah!) since October so nothing from my pp clothes really fits well either. I was planning to get down another 10 pounds and then buy myself a couple of pairs of pants until I lose the last 10 and my old pants fit.

Now I am feeling a bit freaked out about wanting to have something to wear that is nice for this event. But, it would be clothes I will hopefully be too small to wear much after this. I have clothing that I am wearing - I am getting buy with things that are a bit small and a bit big and it works on a dialy basis for now.

What should I do? Just wear what I have and find something that works well enough? Go to the thrift store and see if I can find something else for $20? Buy something that goes with somehting I have for $30 or less? Get something fabulous and live it up? (I wouldn't actually do that!)

Thanks!

Do you have a friend you can borrow something from? What about mixing and matching - maybe get a nice jacket that fits and isn't too much but then put it with pants or a skirt that are big in the waste and pin it? Or to hide a too small pair of pants (can't tell you how much I did that when I first went back to work!!

I have one friend in a similar size/taste (although she is 7 inches shorter so only somethings would work) so I could consider asking her, although I hate borrowing clothes because I worry so much that I will hurt them and then feel terrible!

I can have black pants that are big (I can pull them off without undoing them) and black pants that are too small (I can button them but then I can't sit!). I have a long black skirt that fits well, so if I got some tights or something I could wear it (it is suppose to snow on Sunday, so I'd need something on my legs or I would freeze). With that skirt, though, I don't really have a decent shirt to wear. I some times still wear the less obviously maternity shirts for day to day but I could not do this for an event like this. Mostly I have been wearing nursing tanks and a zip up for day to day. That won't work this time though. Urg.

I guess it depends on how much time you have. I personally would take an afternoon (or whatever) and hunt through thrift stores. After that I'd check out consignment stores. And after that I'd go to Target and buy something nice but reasonably priced (I'm becoming more into buying good quality clothes that last, but this is special situation).

30 Dec rent, groceries and cups for DS, gave BIL shipping money--all budgeted. $$$$$ to the tune of 200 + for the ND/chiro/Reiki/supplements/testing and so on and so on necessary but not budgeted. Taken from savings, which is now non-existent :
Here's hoping Dec will be better--MUCH better!
Well, at least I'm feeling better physically/emotionally already. The ND was more than worth it!

MSAX I would just go to Target or Old Navy and get something to wear with the skirt. Maybe if it's a nice shirt that isn't super fitted you can still wear it for a bit even after you start losing weight? You can also jazz up a plain shirt with a cute scarf or something, too! Have fun!!!!
