Yes many of us maybe have a ton of recipes, or make different things.... but there is always ONE thing that gets made the most in the crockpot.



For me it is "bone broth"

Well, it usually tends to be some combo of meat/veggies/tomato stuff/broth but frankly I am past the point of being sick of that. Does anyone have ideas for something with meat/veggies but does NOT have a stew flavor?

I go through cycles with the crock pot. I've made some different things but basic soups like minestrone or corn chowder have sttod the test of time.

Hmm...its actually a tie for chicken stock, beef roast w/ root veggies, and black bean chili. I love my crockpot and those are all regulars here!


To the PP asking about a recipe that doesn't taste like stew- I make a crockpot dish with turkey legs/thighs, sweet potatoes, baked beans, tomato sauce, brown sugar and a pinch of cloves. It could be adapted to pork or chicken easily and is SO good! LMK if you need any more specifics on it as I don't really measure as I cook

You know I have made crock pot lasagne that is surprisingly good and it's easy as can be because you don't need to cook the noodles first. Another thing I made that was great was a pepper steak- tasted a lot like what you might get at a medicore chinese restaurant Do a search on all recipes for ideas.

It's either chili or stuffed pepper soup in my house. I'm a crock pot reject though... it has to be really simple or I'll screw it up.

I use mine several times a week, but one of those times is always to make some pintos or black beans for burritos, beans and rice, nachos, etc through the week.

Well I can try to estimate how much of each ingredient for you. I usually put in about 2 turkey legs or thighs without the skin and 3 big peeled sweet potatoes cut into big chunks. Then I mix up in a bowl 1 can of baked beans (or I use homemade ones from the freezer), 1/2 can tomato sauce, 1/3c. (?) brown sugar and a pinch of cloves. You can add a little more or less of any of these and it will still work great. Pour over the turkey and sweet potatoes and cook on low for about 8 hrs or until the turkey and potatoes are tender and done. Great with cornbread!

beef roast with root veggies

Roast. Usually with root veggies, but not always. Not exciting, but it works.

My most made crockpot meal used to be chili, but the kids don't really like it.

Mashed potatoes! Just put some olive oil and garlic in the cooker on high while you scrub and cut the potatoes. Leave the skins on and quarter them. Add the potatoes and some veggie stock and then cook them on low for about 6 hours. When done, add some soymilk, S&P and mash them up. Yummy, easy, & vegan.

I'm not going to lie--not only can I not cook, I hate to do it! So, my dh does all the cooking in the house, except when I use the crockpot which lately has been two or three times a week as he doesn't get home until after 7 and I'm usually starving by 4!

Lately it's been:
Chicken breasts with cream of chicken soup and cheddar cheese soup. Tastes absolutely fantastic over biscuits!
Chicken breasts with onion soup mix, pineapple juice and creamy french dressing--served with pineapples it's like a sweet n sour thing
Sauerkraut and pork--I just dump it all in, add a bit of water and wait. My dh hates kraut, but even he will eat the pork cooked this way
To be perfectly honest, a couple days ago I just tossed a frozen pork loin in the thing. It was already peppercorn seasoned. I added absolutely nothing. Not a big fan of pork myself, but my dh ate it up!
Finally, there was recently a huge brisket sale at our grocery store. We can get three or four meals out of one if we cut it into either thirds or quarters before we freeze it. I've put it in with bbq sauce which was pretty great. Once I tried it with water and taco seasoning--made great burritos.


Anyway, my dh doesn't like soup or stew so we don't make much of either in the crock, but I'm lazy enough to have tried it for most everything else!

This sounds good. Right now I do chicken and barley.. take some thighs, a few cans of broth some carrots and celery and seasonings and one cup of barley. Let it cook all day, and I make biscuits to go with it, quite a tasty meal.

I don't use my crock pot often--I don't like the texture of many things cooked in it, particularly chicken and pork. :Puke

I make BBQ chicken in the slow cooker quite often, especially for pot lucks. When I do chicken legs, though, I cheat by cooking them in the oven first and then putting them in the slow cooker with the BBQ sauce. But you can actually put an entire chicken in a good sized slow cooker, add sauce, cook for 6-7 hours, and you're done.

By the way, do you know how hard it is to find BBQ sauce without HFCS? The only place I've been able to find it is Trader Joe's, which has sugar instead. The next time I make BBQ, I am making my own sauce.

The second thing I make most often is chicken stock, using the bones from a roast chicken carcass, and whatever veggies we have on hand.

Yummy- I love reading all the recipes! Here are my "go to" favorites:

1)meatballs. Just form and drop in the crock pot, cover with chunky tomato sauce and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4-6 (depending on quantity). These are great on pasta but also for subs!

2) salsa chicken: put boneless/skinless breast in the pot and over with salsa. Cook on low for 8 hours. Take out chicken and shred for burritos, tacos, etc.

3)Sweet and spicy Kielbasa: I buy nitrate free kielbasa. Slice on an angle and put in pot and cover with spicy salsa and apricot jam. Cook on low for 4 hours or high for 2. Serve over egg noodles for a main or put them out with tooth picks for a party.

4) caramalized onions: not as good as the "real thing" but still pretty good and you can make a huge quantity this way. Slice onions, put in pot with a stick of butter and set on low for 24 hours.

I just used mine last night for one of our staples Crockpot Chicken Curry (or Cheater chicken curry as I call it.
1.5-2 lbs of chicken any kind
1 large jar of salsa
2 tablespoons curry to taste
additional salt & pepper if desired
Cook on high for 4 hours
Pull the meat out and put on a plate or cutting board, the meat should be sliding off the bones. Discard bones
Add 1/2 cup sour cream to crockpot curry sauce stir and return chicken
Serve over rice
YUM YUM YUM!!!!!!!!!!

In my crock-pot right now: chicken breasts (from frozen), Ro-Tel tomatoes, can o' corn and a can o' beans. Easy quick dinner, costs less than $4 for enough for two meals.

Oh, man, that is such a sore point with me! I'd love to buy the big bottles of BBQ sauce at Costco, but every friggin' brand has the HFCS! I do make my own, and it's easy. I just looked at a bottle of a flavour we like and used the same ingredients (sans the HFCS of course).

Annie's doesn't have HFCS, and it's pretty darn good. Get it on sale or with a Mambo-Sprouts coupon and it's not too expensive.

Our local natural food co-op chain has just recently announced that, after almost two years of planning, they are now HFCS free! I am so happy, shopping will be easy there.
