Feb 1 -- 42.94 groceries, 2.50 hot chocolate
Feb 2 -- Had a baby!! 15 hospital snacks
Feb 3 -- 23.83 groceries, 20 pizza

Hey! We had baby boy this weekend! The birth was amazingly fast and we are home all ready. I am delightfully tired and snoozing on the couch with little one. Dh has been out and about with our other 2 children, running them around town and keeping everyone happy and fed.

Groceries -- 66.77/500
Eating Out 37.50

Frugal, food growing mama to my four loves

Congratulations! I'm so impressed that you literally JUST had a baby and you're still keeping track of spending. I think I lost track of budgeting for about, oh, a year after my son was born.

Congratulations on your baby, Ruthiegirl! (I don't see how you have the presence of mind to be keeping up with this!)

Also, great job on the $61 grocery spending, HolidayMama!

2/1: $1 at the library book sale (found a book I am selling on Amazon!)
2/2: spent nothing
2/3: $2.90 pizza / $33.52 bulk household items/ $32.42 baskets

I ended up finding baskets with lids at T.J.Maxx (not sure if it's just a northeastern chain or not)...there were none at Target today and I'm proud to say I didn't buy a single thing at Target (saw many things I wanted, though). I'm actually not putting the baskets in the closet because it's too small anyway; I have this shelf kind of thing; I'm setting the baskets on that, is my plan, for my replacement "dresser". I'll see how it looks once it's set up. TJmaxx had the cutest baskets of all kinds, some had different liners that were pretty; cloth-covered boxes, etc. I didn't want to spend more than $30 but I was so tempted...

2/2: Yay, made it through the rest of trip without impulse spending! Also came home to check mail and find $100 Wal-mart gift card (work bonus), $10 cash from relative, and $40 extra check from husband working a few hours last week. Since husband is seasonally laid off this is all really needed!
2/3 - found a new way to save money today after realizing I was paying double the price for trash bags with the drawstring. I think I spent $6.50ish on a years worth of trash bags today!

Guide:
: No Spend
Spent Within Budget
Necessary but Unbudgeted Spending
: Impulse or Unneeded Purchase/Spending

$0 Added to Savings

Changing my Feb 1 smilie as DH didn't get the mac's after all.

Feb 1. mortgage and other household bills
Feb 2. bought yarn for DH socks, necessary as it's darn cold and his feet need cozy warm socks--bought some groceries
Feb 3. bought pizza and soda for superbowl watching

Legend
--
frivolous/unnecessary spend
--necessary spend
:--no spend

Goals for the month
  • stick to the list we made for needed items to purchase with tax refund
  • Sell or freecycle items we are no longer using and taking up space in our home
  • place at least $1k of refund into savings as a safety net.
15/29 no spend days
20/29 no drive days

2/3--well, I'm not sure what to say about today. my DH is hopeless when it comes to saving money, especially in the eating out department. I cook all week long, but we tend to eat out on the weekends. Today we ate out for lunch and then got Chinese takeout for dinner Tonight for "something to do" we all went to Starbucks (I didn't get anything). Technically this was all DH's idea, but I guess I could have fought harder about us staying home and eating. I think for this month I will say it's ok for us to continue eating out on the weekends--I will focus on no eating out during the week and no other spending for me (oh, this afternoon DH even offered to drive me to the fabric store to "cheer me up"...I said no)!

I am a little shocked too! This is our third and the birth was incredibly fast and uncomplicated. My other two beat me up a bit more, but this babe just slipped right into the world and was easy on me.

And we really need to track our spending. We have spent a lot getting prepared to be a bigger family -- we bought a used minivan, so now I am rolling a car payment into our budget. We'll be fine, but I need to keep it tight if I want to keep paying down our debt on schedule.

And thanks for all the kind words everyone! I am in baby heaven.
