Well I looked into it in more detail because I thought we were above the cut off plus we don't have any legally dependent children anymore but it appears we will get it after all. We owe 300 dollars this year in Federal so I guess it will offset that cost not sure what we would do with the left over.

we won't be getting it. because of all the interest-paid deductions, our taxable income is now "too low".

Ours will be going to pay regular monthly expenses. I wish it was going to go towards bunk beds for the girls (the littlest still sleeps with us and would be happy in her own bed), dressers for the girls since theirs are falling apart, and maybe to replace the camping stuff we lost in the flood so we could go camping again.

heh, maybe I will let the bills go hang and spend it to help stimulate the economy.

I still have an unanswered question.

What if you owe the IRS??? We are on a payment plan from 05 and 06. Will we even see it?? I'd like to see it to hold on to it and pay it towards our 08 taxes.

The link I read at MSNBC showed it not as taxable income but as gross adjusted income.

As someone who has owed and had a payment plan in the past the IRS has always kept any money to pay our debt to them and sent us left after it's paid off. Although we only had that happen with regular tax refund money, never anything like this so I'm not 100% sure.

If we get it, we will save most.

Dh and I will both get $100 "blow" cash and the rest goes into savings.

Yeah, we got a letter 2 weeks ago about them keeping our 2006 refund from the state. I'd really like to have it for this year...either way they are getting all of it.

just wanted to bump this thread and say KIPLINGER.COM says:
Quote:
This is your tax liability for the year, not what you need to send the IRS (if anything) when you file your return. We’re looking for the number on line 57 of Form 1040, line 35 of 1040A or line 10 of 1040EZ; if this amount is under $1200, you may add any amount you claimed for the child credit or earned income credit to reach the $1200 threshold.
And does anyone have a link to the last 2 #'s of your SSN in relation to the date your check will be sent? I'm glad because I put myself first and my last 2 are 37 dh's are 57 so we get the check earlier!

Almost all of it will go toward debt (you should see my student loan debt) but I think each family member should be allowed 1 thing to buy/do. With a cap on the amount of course.
