Ugh. It's payday and I just had a stupendous preformance review that went really, really, REALLY well, and I very much want to celebrate! I'm trying to think of a way to do that without spending (because otherwise, I'd get a no-spend day) and I'm having a hard time.

Promise yourself a treat at home. Home spa night, brownies, etc. You can do it. Congratulations on the performance review!

1: $40 groceries/kids toys/decorating materials, $8 indoor soft play place.
2:$30 DH running shoes - his old ones fell apart on Thurs so no real choice
3: no spend day for me. Was disappointed to find DH had spent $1 at work on chocolate but this is my challenge so I'll accept my first no spend day of the month!!
4: Sent DH to get milk, bread and kid's medicine - he came back having spent $32 - grrrrr!! This makes me so mad. He had also bought several treats for himself but nothing for me, so I don't even get to benefit!!
5: $460 hypnobirthing course for DH and I. (Ask me in May whether this was money well spent) $3 on groceries - definitely unnecessary since this was sweets mainly
6: No spend for me DH spent $7 on playing football and $6 on his lunch.
7: Groceries $105 (budgetted) and gas $100 (budgetted). I had not bought any gas since mid Feb so that was pretty good. DH spent $4 on lunch.
8: $4 curtain hooks - our old ones were tab tops but the new ones need hooks, so necessary spending.
9: No spend, no drive!!
10: $7 playgroup (budgetted)
11: $1 cookies (within grocery budget but pretty unnecessary.) Will be paying the electrician later but there's nothing I can do about that.
12: $112 groceries/household (budgetted). DH said he spent $1 at work on french fries
13: No spend! DH just informed me he spent $1 at work on chocolate, but this isn't his challenge so I'm going to gloss over that.
14: Spent $30 on flowers/foliage for our yard (to entice tomorrow's potential buyer!!) plus $10 on disinfectant for the yard, dishclothes and a can of soda. All of this fits in to the rest of my household budget for this week (but my household budget week runs Weds-Weds so if we run out of anything before then, the money is gone!) Plus $3 on DS1's school activity. Then DH informs me he spent $4 on a breakfast at work!!

Tomorrow should be a no spend day plus we are getting a bouncy chair from freecycle for our baby who is due soon!

march 1: $40- groceries, 15$- gift for a friend
march 2: nothing at all
march 3: sent dh to get applesauce and rice crackers for ds1 - he came home with 10$ in chocolate bars.
march 4: technically nothing spent.
march 5:
march 6:
march 7:
march 8 - 10: we finished off the monthly discretionary fund and this week's food budget.
march 11:
march 12:
march 13:
march 14: today we went to bulk barn and stocked up on cheap, often organic EVERYTHING. we each got a treat because you can't walk out of a bulk foods warehouse without a bag of cheap candy. but we got 00$ worth of stuff for 40$, so i have no complaints. then we 'splurged' on compostable garbage bags (to make the chore of taking out the compost less gross) and a dynamo flashlight so we don't have to buy batteries for the old incandescent flashlight any more. so we had a cheap, eco-friendly shopping day. then we spent 12$ on organic fruit & veg for the week. so we have 15$ left for the week.

the budget:
100$/ week groceries/ transportation/ outings
100$/ month discretionary fund (clothes, gifts, etc)

(weeks start on friday)
week 1: $50 leftover from the 100$
week 2: 0$ leftover
week 3: 15$ remaining for the week
$0 remaining for the month.[/QUOTE]

Congratulations!!!! Do something special at home tonight. Whatever makes you feel special- either a special dinner made while listening to good music. Or maybe something really easy and simple. Then settle in with your DH to watch a movie or snuggle after the kids go to bed.

For me, a celebratory night would mean asking DH to make dinner and having a popcorn, movie and snuggle night with DH

Posting now to give myself a no spend before I screw up. It was a great day until I found out that my uncle passed away this afternoon. I just want to order pizza and curl up under a blanket and cry. Cancer SUCKS. This is the 3rd family member I've lost to cancer in the last year.

DH put in his expense report today at work and should be getting $260 to reimburse him for his cell phone bill ($120) and the gas he uses to drive around for work so that should really help us out!

We are B-R-O-K-E right now. Luckily we both get paid next week and we don't have to many bills. We have to pay the mortgage, city bill and AMEX. Hopefully we will be able to cushion our bank account a little and not be in this position again.

Jenna in love with my DH Jon, loving our 2.5 year old, Caroline Tulip, and expecting another little one in August!

I am looking forward to next month because since I am doing this I can see how we can do better next month and also know that some expenses we incurred this month we won't next month. Like no spending on baby stuff, no eating out (the only eating out we have done was that crazy weekend of going to get the car other then that we have eaten every meal at home), no new car expenses, much less on household stuff and much less on gas.

And I'm really hoping to come under budget on the groceries this month.

Spent a couple of hours outside watching my 20 month old daughter conquer the "big twisty slide".

3/12: spent nothing
3/13: spent nothing (no-drive)
3/14: spent nothing...at any store, anyway. I bought plane tickets, had to use my credit card for that. But - I got round-trip, cross-country tickets for $251 total including taxes and fees...totally unheard-of, especially from my small local airport...and will have a free place to stay...and also have free tickets to a game show! It's to my friend's who I haven't visited in his home-state since 1998! So...as much as I hate to use my credit card, chances like this almost never arise for me.

Spending totals:
Groceries/Household/Pet supplies: $149.74
Eating out, including snacks: $25.41
Postage (for stuff sold on Amazon): $7.41
Miscellaneous: $43.93 (+ $251 credit card)

I hope it's not too late to join. I am up for challenge this month.

1. Please introduce yourself and tell us anything you think it would help us to know about yourself.
We are a family of 3 (me, dh and 2 year old dd). We are doing this to control our spending because I see myself overspending here and there. We are working on spending as little as possible in general.
We love good gourmet food (and we eat a lot!), so the amount we spend on grocery tend to be higher than most families our size. We are trying hard to not eat out. So, this month we have higher budget for groceries and only a little to eat out (hopefully none, but it seems unreasonable to budget $0, so I put $50)
We are a car free family and pay monthly for public transit, so it's all good in that dept.

2. Please tell us why you have decided to spend nothing (or spend significantly less) for the Month of March. Memorize these goals and recite them to yourself before all purchases.
I need to stop impulsive buying and stay within the budget. Only buy stuff when I need them, not because I want them or I think they're cute.
I am a shopaholic and I love buying cute clothes for my dd (only when they're on sale, though, hehe). So, I should control my spending and only buy it when I need it. Also, my dd loves wooden puzzle and she might want more (she only has 4 now, and it does get old because she "outgrew" a couple of them already). Anyway, did I mention I am a shopaholic?

3. No spending is hard work. You need a plan. Please tell us your game plan -- how do you plan to approach no spending for a month?
Cook from scratch! No eating out!
Stay within budget for eveything.

Goals:
100% No-spend days: 16/31 (9/15)
No-spend other than groceries: 22/31 (14/15)
No eating out/takeout: 28/31 (15/15)

Our budget for a month:
Groceries & household needs: $450 ($234/$450)
Clothing & other misc. spending money: $100 ($38/$100)
Eating out/take out: $50 ($0/$50)
No Frivolous spending!

Icons:
No spending:
Grocery spending:
Reasonable spending other than grocery:
Off the wagon:

Okay, this month it goes....

03/01
03/02
03/03
03/04
03/05 CVS: $5, TJ: $86, paying for my choir: $20
03/06 food co-op (fresh veggies): $8
03/07 Asian store (spices, tofu, loose leaf tea): $25
Marshalls, baking pan: $8, wooden puzzle $9
03/08
03/09 Went out to buy clothes for dd, nothing was cheap enough. So, I went to Chinatown to buy some food items (seaweed & "crab" to make sushi) $8
03/10
03/11 Milk @WF: $4
03/12
03/13 Big grocery day! Bulk rice and stuff @ Asian store: $25, TJ: $81
03/14
03/15 (lol, hopefully!)

Thank you for all of the words of sympathy, I really appreciate it. I'm going to try to stay busy today to keep my mind off of everything.

So far this morning I've resisted the temptation to go and buy a few groceries, I'll wait and combine trips later this weekend.

I'm baking bread this morning, and I'm planning to try and get some seeds planted this afternoon. Not only am I staying home, but I'm doing things that will help me to be frugal in the future

15: No spend!! Did a little drive to collect a freecycle thing for the new baby. DH spent $2 on a kid's activity for our two little ones this morning but that's his spending.

We're going to the library tomorrow so we'll have some parking to pay but other than that, tomorrow should be a no spend time. I don't know why but I felt like splurging today, but I controlled it and hopefully the feeling is going away!
