3/1

The snowstorm helped. It really wasn't worth it to go out and spend money.

1. Please introduce yourself and tell us anything you think it would help us to know about yourself.

I'm GypsyMary, and I live with my husband and ten-year-old homeschooled son.

2. Please tell us why you have decided to spend nothing (or spend significantly less) for the Month of March. Memorize these goals and recite them to yourself before all purchases.

We're broke. Simple as that. Reminds me of that line in To Sir With Love:

-You ever been broke, Sir? Real broke? Skint?
-Many, many times.

This is one of those many, many times. There will be days this month, though, when I'll have some money to play around with, and I don't want to squander it. We need eye exams for dh and son, and dh needs some dental work done. I'm hoping to be able to get all of that taken care of as soon as possible.

3. No spending is hard work. You need a plan. Please tell us your game plan -- how do you plan to approach no spending for a month?

Well, we're eating in all month, and dh and I are taking our lunches to work. We buy all non-consumables used, but I'll be avoiding any unnecessary trips to thrift stores and used book shops. I may splurge on a couple of cloth pads this month, but I consider those necessities. (I'm trying to build up a decent stash slowly - one or two every month.)

Anyway, so far, so good. No spending today!

Can't start this month with a Drat. But everything I spent was planned and seriously discounted. Yay for teacher appriciation day at the paint store! Also applied for a full time teaching position today! So excited. I really hope I get it.

My Key:
- No spend
- Spend within budget
- Neccessary but unbudgeted
: - Unneccessary and unbudgeted

01/03 - spent $40.00 on paint for office (at 40% off and have been planning this one and only CC purchase this month for a long time) $26.00 on a really nice meal out with Dbf, came out of last week's tutoring money and gift certificate.

Goals For March:
*20 no spend days (Feb I had 17)
*Pay off CC
*Put $15 from each week of tutoring in saving envelope
*Plan out meals for each week to reduce grocery spending
*File taxes and put tax return on provincial student loan

Budget for March:
Income - around $900.00
- $560.00 to dbf for April bills
- $45.00 to savings
- $200.00 to CC (about half coming from what's still in the bank)
- around $60.00 spending money
- $60.00 to student loan
- $40.00 paint (on CC)

Today was not a good day for no-spending! But I'm not going to beat myself up over it. I got clothes that make me feel good about myself, and we spent a great day together as a family.

March 1: $13.48 at McD's, $6.06 at Arby's, $34.68 at Maurice's

3/1: Flowers donated to town $41.99

Hubby also spent $10 on some rope to hang a tire swing, but since that's on his hardware store work account, I'm not counting it! Plus, he saved the $2 disposal fee on the tire from his work truck. AND he bartered for the tires. Howdoyalikethat? And the kids spent hours playing on it. Win/win/win!

Groceries $550
Gas $100

My key:

No spend
Budget spend
Over spend

I got a good start to the month. My 1st No Spend day of the month.

3/1 No Spend Day

Big spend day today. I have to get groceries and it is DS#1's birthday. I'm taking him out to lunch and will give him $50 for his special day. I will probably get a coffee sometime today. I need to be careful with coffee this month. I'm thinking about dragging out my old coffee maker. Coffee shop coffee tastes so much better.

Jill

My Plan

Groceries $750
Gas $325
Coffee $25
Frivolous Spending $50
Birthday for DS #1 $50
10 no spend days
26 days no Big Box stores
No Credit Cards
2x eat out with hubby and/or kids

Well, 2/3 should be a no-spend day. My parents are coming over later and all the stores close by 6pm. Plus a snowstorm yesterday. Sounds good to me.

Hi,

I'm a shopaholic, but I'm reading this book that is opening my eyes to a lot of things so I was thinking about compacting for a month to challenge myself to see if I can do it. I know this is no spend instead of compacting so I have some questions. What about things you know you were planning on spending on anyway? My birthday is in a few weeks and I won't get a "gift", but we will probably go out to eat. My baby is 8 months old and I never took him for pictures so I was planning on doing that within the next couple of weeks. And then there is Easter (I also have a 7 year old). Do you just go ahead and buy these things because they were planned for?

Thanks!

Aaaah, this month is going badly already!

1: $40 groceries/kids toys/decorating materials, $8 indoor soft play place.
2:$30 DH running shoes - his old ones fell apart on Thurs so no real choice

In my defence, I had to pay DS2 into the soft play place - DS1 was at a party there and we needed both kids out of the house so DH could decorate. The groceries were over budget and the toys weren't necessary

Will do better tomorrow - aiming for a no spend.

3/1: $11.98 photo prints of kids for my desk at work/Dinner out (counting this as our lunch for the week since it was a cheap burger joint for a friend's birthday)

3/2: : Groceries, McDonalds for DS1 & DH, Scones and coffee for breakfast.

No Spend
Spending within budget
: Drat, I Blew it

I hate having to give myself an "I blew it" for today, because we went to the new SuperTarget for groceries and I was SO. GOOD. I didn't buy anything from the Target part of the store, and stuck to my grocery list for groceries. But yeah... although I can rationalize the fast food because DS was completely melting down, the scones and coffee I coulda made at home and we could have done without. So, yeah... better luck tomorrow.

Honestly, tomorrow should be a good day. I have fantastic leftovers to take for my first day back, and as long as the baby lets me sleep, I should be able to avoid the coffee monster as well. :

GOALS:
0/16 no spending AT ALL days (not one cent, even if it's budgeted)
Eating limited to Friday supper and one weekend lunch.
No spending on hobbies, finish the projects I have.
>2x week ordering in or vending machine at work.
>$400 on Groceries during the month.

Spending all of my money and time on this wild, wild life.

Okay, after a false start yesterday I didn't spend anything today and worked out a meal plan for the month.

My Key:

02/03 - snow bound

Goals For March:
*20 no spend days (Feb I had 17)
*Pay off CC
*Put $15 from each week of tutoring in saving envelope
*Plan out meals for each week to reduce grocery spending
*File taxes and put tax return on provincial student loan

Budget for March:
Income - around $900.00
- $560.00 to dbf for April bills
- $45.00 to savings
- $200.00 to CC (about half coming from what's still in the bank)
- around $60.00 spending money
- $60.00 to student loan
- $40.00 paint (on CC)

Hello ladies. This is my second month doing this and after seeing what worked and what didn't on my first month, I'm excited to get saving and not-spending this month. It's going to be tricky with a few fundraisers, 2 birthday parties, a tupperware party and Easter. BUT I plan on staying on budget.

I am a WOHM and DH is our SAHP and DS also goes to daycare as a full day is too much for DH (he's got a good excuse... his health). It's tricky for me to control the finances without feeling like I'm nagging DH but he just likes to blow everythign on unnessicary items.

SO we have two joint goals. One is no buying liquor the other i no eating out. I just blew both of those last night and today. Ugh. But I plan on getting on track for the rest of the month.
My personal goals include taking a bag lunch to work every day and grocery shopping just once a week.

3/1 : Spend $ on liquor and raffle tickets at a charity event. At least it went to a good cause
3/2 We to a indoor playgym. Had hotdogs.

Key
No Spend Day!
Nessicary and Budgetted
Nessicary Unbudgetted
Unnessicary and Unbudgetted

: Brought a Bagged Lunch
: Get Take-Out for Lunch

Goals
0/21
0/15 :
0/1 online shopping day
Car Savings $150/$300
Grocery Budget $13.65/$400
Unnessicary Spending $37.50
Bus Fare $1.75

Oh and I'm bad for spending little bits of $$ here and there on little luxuries so instead I'm going to buy myself a cheap bunch of flowers once every two weeks and call it quits at that.

I'm also trying to save towards a car. I'm going to buy in a savings account equivalant to a car payment each month. This way I'll be used to the payment and have a down payment. I plan on buying a less expensive used car.
