Realized I'm a day behind. Luckily, it was a no-spend, no-drive day.

Ah, I love my husband, but, seriously. Apparently, I "need" to go shopping, because, dramatically, we have "nothing to drink but water". Dear, let me tell you what we do have:

Two types of ground coffee, plus a tin of International Crappee.
Three types of tea, PLUS a tea sampler box.
Two types of cocoa, one organic, and one that Swiss Miss you love so much
A half glass or so of milk
An open bottle of vegetable juice
A can of grapefruit juice I can whip up in a couple of minutes
Beer
Lemon juice, sugar, and water...Yep! Lemonade.
Lime juice, sugar, and water...LIMEade

I think what you *meant* to say was "We don't have enough milk to make a big ol' overflowing glass of chocolate milk." Don't act like we're in the middle of the desert and I'm denying you the last canteen. I will shop when we need more than just milk.

4/1 Doc: $125, groceries: $37.59
4/2 No spend No Drive Transferred $475 into savings.
4/3 No spend No Drive
4/4 No spend No Drive
4/5 No spend No Drive
4/6 No spend No Drive
4/7 No spend No Drive
4/8 No spend No Drive Transferred $300.56 into savings
4/9 No spend No Drive
4/10 $34.71 Trader Joe's
4/11 $23.09 Beer (this should last about two months...you have to buy cases here in PA. No six packs! Binge-drinking is healthy!)
4/12 $45.84 Birthday Dinner for DH. $40.15 Gas
4/13 No spend No Drive Put $899 into savings
4/14 No spend No Drive
4/15 No spend No Drive

11/21 No spend days
11/20 No drive days
14/28 No eat out days

$72.30/$150 groceries - I have a lot of food in the pantry and freezer from last month.
$1674.56/$1493.70 into savings/IRAs/investments for month GOAL MET
$13720.77/17924.40 into savings/IRAs/investments for the year (so far, $8720.77 into savings, $5000 into IRAs)
Less than 225 miles for the month. 121,461 beginning mileage

-dusts clothes off after hard fall off the wagon-

4/1- $95.59 groceries at Safeway, $22.16 groceries at Trader Joe's, $30.01 on gas
4/2- No spend but did drive to volunteer work
4/3- $28.41 Jiffy Lube oil change (but I used a coupon!), $10.03 Trader Joe's beer & 2 box of mac n' cheese, $3.95 Long's for envelopes, $65.85 heartworm meds for pets (unexpected expense thought we had enough for this month)
4/4- $55.02 gas for the Volvo
4/5- $56.00 for haircut and eye brow wax (I haven't had a haircut in 2 years), $10.10 housewarming gift, $31.20 groceries
4/6- $15.11 nursery (tomato plant, fox glove seeds, cilantro seeds, salvia plant. This is DH's "free spend" for the month)
4/7- $8.17 McDonald's pregnancy craving but very unnecessary
4/8- $73.91 groceries but I stocked up on a lot of on sale meat
4/9- $57.41 gas for Hyundai, $11.69 Indian food (ugh, I had just taken the one hour test and was starving but still unnecessary), $7.00 Home Depot
4/10- No spend, thank God.
4/11- $13.57 DH spent on beer, $17.21 snacks for a party, $58.36 cat and dog food
4/12- $18.26 book, gift for friend, $13.51 farmers market, $5.00 ice cream
4/13- $26.00 Taylor's Market
4/14- $78.53 Trader Joe's. I am so mad at myself, I went crazy buying wine, most of this bill is for wine not food, $2.26 DH coffee
4/15- No spend

Groceries $375.26/$350
Household $10.95/$20
Gas $142.44/$200
Pets $130.66/$116
Dry Cleaning $0/$40
Car Maintenance $28.41/$0
Gifts $28.36/$0
Jenna "Mad Money" $56.00/$20
DH "Mad Money" $15.11/$20
Eating Out $41.98/$0

I am so upset with myself, I have made really bad choices all month. We have just been spending like crazy on food. Actually a lot of the overspending in groceries has been due to the purchase of alcohol and "party food" because we went to a friends house to watch the Master's this weekend. I have also fallen into some old bad habits like when I bought all that wine at Trader Joe's the other day. I just like to see the wine rack full so I bought a bunch of wine even though we literally can't afford it! I also have eaten out twice unnecessarily Not to mention the money I blew at the salon getting my hair done. I just feel really bad about myself right now, I'm disappointed in my actions. The worst part of all of this is that everything you see here has gone on credit card. Our paychecks have only been enough to pay our bills this month, that will change next month but it was so important to be frugal this month and I have blown it big time.

The one good thing I have done is I have been cleaning and ironing all of DH's shirts at home instead of taking them to the dry cleaners.

I feel like a failure.

My goal for the rest of the month is to truly only spend on those things that are absolutely necessary, clear out the fridge and pantry, only DH drives and absolutely no more spending on myself or on alcohol, I don't care if we go to a BBQ or whatever, we can bring one of the many bottles of wine I bought at Trader Joe's.

Thanks for listening to me and congratulations to everyone else that is doing a good job.

Jenna in love with my DH Jon, loving our 2.5 year old, Caroline Tulip, and expecting another little one in August!

Crunchy Vt Mom, thanks for the support, I started to cry when I read your post. I just e-mailed my DH and he was surprised by the totals too but told me I'm not a failure which makes me feel better because I hate feeling that way about myself.

Thanks for having this place for me to come.

Jenna, you're not alone. And you are not a failure. No frivolous spending sounds sooo easy, but it isn't easy at all.

FWIW, I haven't even added up my careless spending from the past 10 days or so. I might not, b/c I know I will feel bad and I am looking to feel and be positive. I have 2 weeks left in the month to do that!

4/15 $4 mocha
4/16 $6 kids crafts, 14 unexpected lunch out since crafts venue got changed for a restaurant. I resisted the urge to buy lunches for me and DH and just got meals for the kids and a cookie for us on the way out.

I do this too when I fall off the wagon.

That is why FIDO is so much my motto -- Forget About It and Drive On.

We all make mistakes with spending. If we were perfect spenders, we wouldn't be on this thread.

We're trying to get BETTER at it. And that takes work. You need to stay positive and focused to get that work done, so it is far more important to keep plugging along with us. Forget about the mistakes...keep going.

Nadia is right. Not spending is HARD.

12id pretty well on my tutorial by packing a lunch and drinks. Spent $2 on a tea (mainly just to be sociable so needless really ) and left a tip after dinner. Dinner will be on expenses. DH took the kids out to the library and got lunch while they were in town - $6 on lunch plus $4 on a gift for DS1 and probably $4 on parking.
13: $5 on a cake and some juice to take to the tutorial. I had promised to bake but was way too tired, so this was a compromise and probably didn't work out much more expensive than baking at home. DH took the kids to the park and picked up some lunch items - $4. I then had to get $12 worth of groceries for dinner because DH hadn't followed my meal plan in my absence!! Plus $6 contribution to a gift for someone in the tutorial group who has finished the course.
14:No spend and no drive for me but DH bought a loaf and some mints - $2.
15: Wooah, lots of spending today. Spent $176 in total on this week's groceries, DH's birthday presents, some extra food that is intended for postpartum and some vitamins for DS1 and me. Then, I took the kids to McDonald's as a treat and spent $14.
16: No spend, no drive. Midwife came to me and made a belly cast!!
