Hi

I've read a little of the March thread and decided I'd like to join April now it's here.

We've done our groceries on the weekend so I should only be spending on gas and a couple bills for the first half of April.

We'll be on DH salary only for a couple of months so control is essential.

Good luck to everyone.

Yes! We have less than that every month so you can do it!!! We will be here to and and if you need us too! If you feel like you need to spend come confess first and see if it helps!

Have a fabulous April!

hi, i'm josy. i'm on mat leave at the moment and dp is working. we have two little dudes. i just taught the older one to say 'peace out, bro!' and make the appropriate gestures. the younger one is working on his crawling skills.
we don't have a lot of money, so keeping track of it is essential. last month i rocked the no-spend challenge. here's a rundown:

100$/ week groceries/ transportation/ outings (weeks start on friday)
100$/ month discretionary fund (clothes, gifts, etc)

week 1: $50 leftover from the 100$
week 2: 0$ leftover
week 3: -4.50$
week 4: 5$ leftover
week 5: 15$ remaining for the week
$0 remaining for the month.
this month i want to beat the % of no-spend days. i got 15/31 last month, that's 48% no-spend. and the more we have leftover from out weekly & monthly amounts the better, obviously.

so let the games begin!

01..

1/24 no-spend days
1/30 fast-food-free days
1/10 let the car rest days
5/20 items posted on internet to sell

Woohoo! I got five things listed up there on ebay. Even if I don't sell them, getting myself motivated to take a picture and list them counts for something. They've been sitting on my desk for literally months.

1. Please introduce yourself and tell us anything you think it would help us to know about yourself:

Hello everyone! I'm a stay-at-home mom/pre-nursing student to four young children. We live in the city of Toronto.

2. Please tell us why you have decided to spend nothing (or spend significantly less) for the Month of April. Memorize these goals and recite them to yourself before all purchases:
In the six years that we've been parents, my hubby and I have only once managed to track our spending for a month. With four young children (for quite a while we had three in diapers), money seems to flow out waaay faster than it flows in. My goal is to attend full-time nursing school for two years starting September 2009. This would mean not only paying for my education but paying roughly $48 for two years of full-time help for the kids while I attended school. We do not have this money, but if we can stick to the very very very tight budget we've created, the debt we take on won't be as overwhelming.

3. No spending is hard work. You need a plan. Please tell us your game plan -- how do you plan to approach no spending for a month?:
I set up our accounts and budget on an online system called www.expensr.com - excellent web application! It will allow my husband and myself to enter our daily expenses from wherever we may be. Our no spending/expense tracking has failed in the past because it's been too busy with four little ones running around to talk each and every evening about what our financial status is.

01: $134 groceries/household stuff - within budget but more than I meant to spend IYKWIM. However, I did get some PP pads, some labour drinks and a bit of extra meat to make PP meals for the freezer, so I got a lot of my money. DH spent $1 at work on a chocolate bar!

April 1:

So far, so good. I'm resisting buying some little tins to organize my snaps and thread through a coop. They will still be there in May if I still think I need them. The price break would be nice, but it's not huge, so it can wait.

I found out it will be $80 to repair my serger, I don't know if that includes any parts -- a couple things were bent when I tried to serge around a prefold diaper to make a prefitted. Well, repairing this old one will undoubtedly be cheaper than a new one!

Hello! I am a SAHM with a 4 year old DD and a 2.5 year old DS. This challenge has helped me, along with the Dave Ramsey plan, to complete change how we handle our money. We have paid off a ton of debt but we have more to go. I want to be more accountable this month as I have made it tight in order to pay off a credit card. We will then only have one more to go!!!!

Goals:

Stay home as much as possible.
Spend only what was budgeted.

Good luck everyone!

I haven't spent anything today, and I'm taking an extra shift tonight to help contribute to dh's trip fund (: he's going to "play" with guy friends for 3 days) rather than take $$$ out of savings. I'm taking some tea with me to keep myself from buying a coffee drink. Wish me luck!

Yesterday was a no spend, and today is a no spend, so I'm starting out good. Work even ordered in from my favorite sandwich shop but I held fast and ate my spaghetti like a good girl instead of opting for Chicken Salad on Rye.

Hopefully, DH will have something yummy at home for supper and support.

1. Please introduce yourself and tell us anything you think it would help us to know about yourself.

Hello! My name is Jessica and I am married to my DH, Chris and together we have a 19 month old with #2 on the way in October. I am a SAHM and used to clean a few houses a month to bring in some extra money, but with my M/S I have had to stop. Our budget has always been tight, but unless my DH happens to get another job soon, I'm not sure how we're going to make all of the bills this month. I have wanted to join this several times, but haven't been too dedicated. But I really need to stop spending extra money on stupid things.

2. Please tell us why you have decided to spend nothing (or spend significantly less) for the Month of April. Memorize these goals and recite them to yourself before all purchases.

Because we need to find ways to cut back on our budget and start saving.

3. No spending is hard work. You need a plan. Please tell us your game plan -- how do you plan to approach no spending for a month?

Stay Home :-D

Oh I meant to add that we are having a twin sale coming up that I am planning on getting Lailah's summer clothing at and some new baby stuff, so that is planned spending.

1. Please introduce yourself and tell us anything you think it would help us to know about yourself.

I am Jenna. I am expecting my first baby in July. I live in No. Cal where things are expensive. DH and I "own" our home. DH works full time out of the home and I work part time from home. My hours at work have been cut drastically and its taking a big toll on us.

2. Please tell us why you have decided to spend nothing (or spend significantly less) for the Month of April. Memorize these goals and recite them to yourself before all purchases.

We are broke. We are short $418 this month just to pay our bills, that doesn't even include groceries or gas! We are trying to sell some stuff to get us through this lean month but some stuff is just going to end up on CC, I want to make sure that it doesn't get out of control.

3. No spending is hard work. You need a plan. Please tell us your game plan -- how do you plan to approach no spending for a month?

For me it is to stay home unless I have to go out to buy groceries. That's pretty much what I did last month and it helped a lot. Also we will be eating every single meal at home unless someone else is treating. We tried this last month and did pretty good but my goal is zero eating out spending.

Jenna in love with my DH Jon, loving our 2.5 year old, Caroline Tulip, and expecting another little one in August!

I'll give it a go! (Again)

1. I'm a HS teacher and dh is a farmer/sahd. We have 2 boys, ages 2.5 and 4.5. We raise our own beef and pork, have a basement full of garden canned goods and have weekly milk delivery. So I try really hard not to hit the stores more than once a week. We live really rurally, so shopping for recreation is not really a temptation. Yet, I still have trouble not spending too much everytime I set foot in a store.

2. We were hoping to be debt free after tax returns this year, but its not going to happen (return is smaller than last years). So we still have a little way to go and an expensive summer ahead of us We're in 3 weddings, all out of town). I need all the accountability and motivation I can get! We'd like to get pregnant this summer and I'd like to be financially set to stay home part-time after the new baby is born.

3. Plan: Limit groceries to $65/week, gas $30, and record all other spending. I'd like to budget more specifically then weekly amounts.

April 1: $20 birthday gift for BIL, $32 misc kitchen/house stuff that was not needed. $3 toy for the boys, $5 fast food, $20 groceries.

$20 groceries
$40 unneeded
$20 gifts

4/1- $95.59 groceries at Safeway, $22.16 groceries at Trader Joe's

Groceries $117.75/$350
Household $0/$20
Gas $0/$200
Pets $0/$116
Dry Cleaning $0/$40

Doing the no spend challenge last month really helped me figure out how to set up our budget for this month. We decided that we wanted to keep our grocery budget the same because having to eat beans & rice all the time will drive me and DH to eat out or cheat. I budgeted a small amount for household stuff because last month we purchased a lot of things in bulk that will last us through this month. Also we are going to clean all DH's shirts at home so only his slacks and jackets go to the dry cleaners this month.

Jenna in love with my DH Jon, loving our 2.5 year old, Caroline Tulip, and expecting another little one in August!

Wow, do I ever need this thread. I'm not sure what my plan is but I'm going to read through what others have posted (only read about 1/3 of posts so far, but knew I had to sub to this thread). Then I'll think about what I can do.

I am a chronic overspender, mostly b/c I have a terrible time keeping track of anything and I tend to buy on impulse when I hit sales or when some "great" idea or inspiration hits me. I buy fabric and yarn and craft supplies all the time b/c I am overwhelmed by all sorts of creative ideas (which I never seem to be able to acknowledge that I don't have the TIME for) and the same goes for food and even clothes for the kids. I buy foodstuffs that I intend to cook into this or that wonderful meal. And don't. Then I find outfits for the kids that will match this or that or I will cut the pants off and hem them to bermudas or whatever. And stuff sits around waiting to be taken care of.

I do OK for awhile and then I slide back into the old habits. Partly I get bored and don't know where to go or what to do. The weather sucks (we had a snow day from school today, can you imagine???) so mostly there isn't much to do outdoors. As many days as possible I try to get the family outside for stuff like sledding or snowshoeing, but with the ages of the kids, not everyone can participate and the littles have a limited capacity to be out in the cold or keep up w/ stuff. Summer will be a bit better. But for now, sadly, our entertainment is often eating out or going to the mall or movies, all of which are expensive and result in too much spending. We should stay home more (and maybe do some of those above-mentioned crafts??? )

I feel like I need to set some really small goals just to get started. Like maybe just keeping a log of no-spending days, necessary-spending days and overspending days? It would be a start...
