Today I spent $48 budgeted dollars at garage sales (got some good finds for clothing and toys); also spent $18.24 treating the family to ice cream. It was more than I thought it would be, but still budgeted for.

Yes, because you can always sell it back for that much at a consignment shop or on ebay.

Is there anything else you would wear that dress for besides the wedding?

$6 on a one-time purchase (that has resale value) is not going to break your budget.

Buying a $6 dress every day of the month...now that would be a different story. Or if you already had a dozen of those dresses and you were just buying another one just because you love to buy things.

But maternity clothes when you are pregnant are necessities in my book. Especially when you are buying used.

Honest to goodness no spend today; wahoo! Fantastic spring skiing with DH and the kids; turned down DD's request to order pizza at the lodge and she was fine eating the lunch we brought. On a positive cash flow note, DH had two paychecks in his box at the fire station yesterday when he went to cover a shift (something he does maybe 1x/month, so he forgot they were coming). Heading to a baby shower tomorrow; don't think there will be anything there to spend on...

I agree with Prudence- $6 is relatively inexpensive. I would buy it if I was in your position.

I forgot that I wrote and mailed off dd's registration for soccer yesterday..I am really discouraged already..I have spent over half of what I had planned for non essential spending in the first 4 days of the month And most of that has been for school $ or sports $..I will probably have to decide on a higher amount for the month, since I was planning to get a few things for ds's birthday (his b-day is May 2nd) I am not planning to go all out for his birthday or anything, but we are trying to switch out our plastic toys as we can, so I was going to buy him a few wooden toys and maybe a book.

I'm going to the zoo Thursday (free - last day of our membership), so, I'm going to try really really hard to not drive the car until that day. We've been having okay weather (low 50s), so we've been able to go down to the complex playground between rain spells, which gets us out of the house. We live in a dangerous walking area - it's simply not safe to walk on the roads outside of the complex...no shoulders and certainly no sidewalks, on a busy twisting road. We are 99% certain that we will be staying in the Pittsburgh area (BOO!!!!) for another 2 years (Double Boo!!!!), so, I'm looking into CSAs -which I'll have to do this week - and possibly renewing our museum membership (we have lots of free passes for the zoo still...last year I bought the "deluxe" membership, which came with 10 passes for $30 more - and the zoo is normally 8-12/person...but they sent us DOUBLE the passes. I gave a few away, but, I still have a bunch to use, so, I won't renew our zoo memebership until they're used up - which will probably be the fall, since DD is still free).

4/1 Doc: $125, groceries: $37.59
4/2 No spend No Drive Transferred $475 into savings.
4/3 No spend No Drive

$37.59/$150 groceries - I have a lot of food in the pantry and freezer from last month.
$475/$1493.70 into savings/IRAs/investments for month
$12521.88/17924.40 into savings/IRAs/investments for the year (so far, $7521.88 into savings, $5000 into IRAs)
Less than 225 miles for the month. 121,461 beginning mileage

I think I will go ahead and get the dress although Dh said it looks too old for me. LOL...I will need something to wear if I go and I would be gambling to find something that fits when I actually need it.

Still no, no drive days but I did feel awesome last night. I got Dh to walk to the movies with me instead of drive. Progress!

Okay, so we got the estimate for the heating repair......$2600!!!!! So, we are without heat for the time being. Thankfully, it is warming up outside and we are warm enough -- not toasty, but warm enough to limp through without any heat.

I have to pay 127.50 for the repair call and am taking that out of the cash I have set aside for the heating bills. DH is at the plumbing shop now seeing if there is anyway he can do any of the work himself. He is replacing 2 of the valves the tech thought were blown and then will need to figure out how to cut and solder a pipe piece back into place. We'll see how this goes...

April 1 -- 72.52 groceries
April 2 -- no spend
April 3 -- no spend
April 4 -- 54.66 groceries
April 5 -- 7.19 canning jar seals
April 6 -- 127.50 heating system repair

Goals for the month:

$200 for food buying club
$300 all other groceries/stuff -- 134.67/300.00

$600 for boiler repair -- 127.50/600
$124.75 to pay off last credit card -- 124.75/124.75

My 'not buying it' list: pizza, coffee, disposable dipes or wipes, clothes[/QUOTE]

4/2
4/3 Was both my lunch out for the week AND our dinner out for the week. Just a tough day all around, but no 'additional' spending other than that.
4/4
4/5 & 4/6 Normal weekend spending. ($124 on groceries, $10 on a map of Wisconsin (or we'd still be lost!) $20 on lunch/snacks, $50 on a stroller which was a budgeted spend)

On the good side, I did NOT buy a grill. On the bad side, I forgot that I was going to try to avoid ordering lunch at all while at work and blew that goal. BUT... we've done exceedingly well at not ordering/eating out this week, and at not buying extra or frivolous things. Our entire frivolous spending was a $4 monkey for DS (who has gotten more than $4 of enjoyment out of it already) and $2.99 wooden spoons for me (which I did need but could have lived without for a while longer). That's a HUGE improvement for us, so we're going to focus on that instead.
